m We understand the Provost's representatives want information regarding space vacated in Polya Hall as a result of the new construction. The department will vacate 21 offices in Polya Hall with a total of 3,528 sq. ft.. It does not have any space in Pine Hall. In addition, the move of the Computer " Science Department Library to the new building will result in vacating an additional 1,000 sq. ft. The Computation Center, at this time, has the fol- lowing uses in mind for any vacated space:

1. Unstacking of systems programmers and user services applications programmers. If a reduction of office occupancy frcm only three per office to two per office is accomplished, four offices will be required for this need alone. These are senior people whose productivity would be enhanced if at times they had private offices.

2. Space for interfacility activity to gain economy of scale of three facility operation; space is needed where people from the individual facilities can work together.

3 . More space for consulting activity to meet the demands of the user community.

I+. Space for users. The Computation Center at one time was able to provide temporary space for some users but has been unable to do so as the staffs of the Department and the Center have increased.

5. Additional space for Systems Documentation Office.

6. At least one and possibly more offices for pilot program for a " regional network. 7. Terminal rooms for a) systems programmers and b) user services 8. Space for coffee klatches for systems programmers

9. Office for government auditors. 10. Growth of staff - R and D function.
