ABSTRACT

Non-linear Analysis In this presentation the vibration of linear and nonlinear dynamical systems has been briefly discussed. With the help of simple numerical examples, responses of linear and nonlinear systems, their stability and bifurcations have been studied. Types of nonliarity in vibrating system discussed with examples. Nonlinear systems have a range of behaviour not seen in linear vibrating systems. In this Presentation the phenomena associated with nonlinear vibrating systems are described in detail. In the absence of exact solutions, the analysis of nonlinear systems is usually undertaken using approximate analysis, numerical simulations and geometrical techniques. In this presentation, the basic ideas of dynamical systems are applied to vibrating systems are studied like suspension system. Finally, the changes in system behaviour as one (or more) of the parameters such as stiffness and damping coefficient in basic quarter car model with linear and nonlinear suspension parameters are verified with MATLAB/Simulink software and discussed. Such changes are known as bifurcations or chaos, and they are highly significant for the understanding of nonlinear systems.

ABSTRACT

Some Changes To The Contemporary Civil Engineering Practice Socio-economic changes in India have occurred very fast in recent 5 to 10 years. Income in hands and aspirations of people and their standard of life, particularly middle class people, has improved significantly. This demands changes to contemporary practice of civil engineering. Development should be as far as possible eco-friendly and make best use of available natural resources like wind and solar energy. Future houses should be designed to provide at least one place in house with enough sunlight to allow use of solar cooker, recharge solar gadgets to tap solar energy. Electric automobiles or hybrid automobiles need suitable electrical fittings to recharge batteries in ground floor or in garages. Middle class families use cars in big way and create parking problem. Cars are parked on roadside of house as it is difficult to alter existing houses to create parking. New houses should leave adequate ground floor parking for two and four wheelers to free roadsides from parked vehicles. Average life of Indians is rising significantly due to better healthcare and diet. So, lifts or ramps may be provided in place of staircases for old people. Plug-points need be provided in residences for numerous mobiles, personal computers, rechargeable house-hold gadgets etc. Life style of old age and middle aged people are strikingly different. Housing complexes for designed for old people will be needed with adequate medical facilities, ambulances, common kitchen for those unable to cook for themselves, libraries, reading rooms, community halls, parks, walkways etc to suit their life-style. Houses for young people should have an extra bed room for their parents visiting them occasionally.Smart cities recently promoted by Government be designed such that people in villages in 40 km radius travel minimum for their daily routines. Each village in this area should have schools and high schools. Smart cities should have adequate ITI colleges, diploma colleges, degree colleges, universities etc. so that only older students travel to city for education. Adequate road or railway connectivity be available for their travel. Cities have larger employment potential. Hence, working people should stay in their rural homes and travel to city for work. It reduces pressure on cities to provide houses, water supply, electricity, sanitation, recreation etc for such people in city for education or working. It improves supply of essentials like milk, vegetables, food grains, etc to city and also provide good market for produces of villages in city. Waste disposal is a burning problem. Plastic from waste be separated to use in road surfacing, which is cheaper than asphalt surfacing. Metals, aluminium and glass be separated for re-cycling. Partially treated sewage water with organic matter be used for irrigation to reduce need for fertilisers and irrigation water. Excess sewage water be treated fully and discharged in to natural waterways to improve supply of clean water. Development of new large cities like Delhi, Bangalore be avoided. Income disparities in cities are very large and unwelcome. Use of high technology is inevitable. People should work from their rural houses for offices in cities far away with help of optical fibre network.

ABSTRACT

The molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) thin films have been successfully deposited onto the glass substrates using chemical spray pyrolysis (CSP) deposition technique at various substrate temperatures ranging from 300 °C to 450 °C with an interval of 50 °C. The effect of substrate temperature on the structural, morphological, optical and gas sensing

properties of MoO3 thin films has been thoroughly investigated. The X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that all the films have an orthorhombic crystal structure and are polycrystalline in nature. The FE-SEM micrographs depict the formation of nanobelts-like morphology. The selectivity studies show that the gas response of various gases varies as

NH3 < SO2 < CO2 < CO < H2S < NO2. Moreover, typical MoO3 film is highly selective and

sensitive for detection of NO2 gas in comparison with other gases. The maximum response of

30.5 % is obtained for MoO3 thin film deposited at substrate temperature of 400 ºC towards

100 ppm NO2 gas concentration at an operating temperature of 200 °C with response and

recovery times of 20 s and 160 s, respectively. Finally, NO2 gas sensing mechanism model based on the chemisorption process is discussed.

ABSTRACT

Data compression is an area that needs to be given almost attention in text quality assessment. Different methodologies have been defined for this purpose. Hence choosing the best machine learning algorithm is really important. In addition to different compression technologies and methodologies, selection of a good data compression tool is most important. There is a complete range of different data compression techniques available both online and offline working such that it becomes really difficult to choose which technique serves the best. Here comes the necessity of choosing the right method for text compression purposes and hence an algorithm that can reveal the best tool among the given ones. A data compression algorithm is to be developed which consumes less time while provides more compression ratio as compared to existing techniques. In this paper we represent a hybrid approach to compress the text data. This hybrid approach is combination of Dynamic Bit reduction method and Huffman coding.

Mahagaon, 416 503, India Corresponding author: [email protected]

ABSTRACT

Video analysis is very important for many applications such as video surveillance, traffic analysis, vehicle navigation etc. Object detection is fundamental step in video analysis. Object detection is the process of finding instances of real world objects such as faces, bicycle, and building in images or videos. It is challenging to support moving object detection in timely manner. Moreover to automate the video analysis, object detection requires training on some labeled examples. Without this training it is very difficult to analyze moving object. Some methods have been proposed to tackle this problem and these are based on motion information; but these methods are not useful when there is non-rigid motion or dynamic background. These challenges can be addressed in framework called as Detecting Contagious Outlier in the Low-rank representation. It is assumed in DECOLOR that the underlying background images are linearly correlated and the low rank matrix is formed from vectorized video. The moving objects can be detected as an outlier in lowrank representation. This method also integrates the object detection and background learning into single process.

ABSTRACT Specific objective to discover some novel information from a set of documents initially retrieved in response to some query. Clustering sentences level text, effective use and update is still an open research issue, especially in domain of text mining. Since most existing system uses pattern belong to a single cluster. But here we can use patterns belongs to all cluster with different degree of membership. Since sentences of those documents we would expect at least one of the clusters to be closely related to the concepts described by the query term. This paper presents a Novel Fuzzy Clustering Algorithm that operates on relational input data (i.e. data in the form of square matrix of pair wise similarities between data objects).

ABSTRACT

Thick film technology is highly versatile technology. The Microstrip antennas can be fabricated using thick film technology. The thick film microstrip patch antenna was fabricated using screen printing technology. The graphical representation of the radiation properties of the antenna as a Croton leaf overlay on the thick film antenna is presented in this paper. The output voltages were measured for different angles from -90° to +90°. The H plane radiation pattern of antenna shows a resonance peak characteristic at 10.4 GHz having output voltage 27.2 mV. The E plane radiation pattern gives maximum output voltage of 41.2 mV at 0°. These patterns changes due to leaf overlay. The beam width of E plane and H plane pattern increases due to leaf overlay. The fresh leaf overlay has the tendency to shift maxima of E – plane pattern to another angle.

ABSTRACT

With the onset of 21st century we all have started to experience the severity of global warming. It is estimated that earth will be warm by 1.8 oC by 2100. This is reflecting in more energy consumption for cooling purpose. According to report of Alliance for Energy Efficient Economy, India’s cooling energy consumption is expected to grow around 2.2 times in 2027 over the current baseline. Space cooling in buildings will hold around 60 per cent of the country’s share of cooling energy demand. For the coming decade, fans and air coolers will consume more electricity than all large AC systems combined in the next decade, the report said. There is immense need to find some alternative source for cooling purpose as we cannot go on consuming electricity for the same. As there are alternate / non conventional sources of energy, the Earth Air Tunnel System proves to be most viable alternate source for cooling purpose.

ABSTRACT

Due to high energy crisis and increase in human need for energy, a more efficient way of using it is a major challenge in the scientific community. The enhancement of heat transfer is one of the most important research areas in the field of thermal engineering. The thermal performance of two phase closed thermosyphon (TPCT) is one the most important part of investigation in the field of heat transfer. Due to the high heat transfer effectiveness, the use of TPCTs increasing for many heat transfer applications. Researchers experimentally investigated the effect of prominent parameters such as working fluid, filling ratio, aspect ratio, heat input at evaporator, mass flow rate at condenser, cross sectional geometry and inclination angle which affects the thermal performance TPCTs. In this review paper main focus is given to prominent parameters that affects the thermal performance of TPCT. From the literature it seems that most of the investigation is done on circular cross sectional geometry of TPCTs .The investigation on other cross sectional geometry of TPCT is quite limited. This paper can be used as a starting point for the researchers interested to study heat transfer characteristics and performance evaluation of TPCTs.

ABSTRACT

In this work a heartbeat monitoring system for the heart patients using selfpowered bicycle is developed. This system is convenient for providing a solution to heart patients. In most of cases reported so far, it is harmful to heart patients to use conventional exercising solutions. In case of conventional cycling exercise heart patients are not able to know their increasing heart rates. Our objective is to provide safe bicycle exercising facility to the heart patients by using sensors and microcontroller. The energy harvested from a wheel’s revolutions of bicycle at the time of exercise is converted it to an electrical energy. The harvested electrical energy is used as backup power to the microcontroller and control circuits. The monitoring system performs the measuring functions and it transmits data to external devices, without using any external battery. The sensor is then interfaced to a microcontroller that allows checking heart rate readings and transmitting them on monitor. ABSTRACT

In this work a real-time system for the electrical transmission line monitoring using Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is developed. This system is convenient for providing a solution to the real time problems due to different types of faults in transmission line like accidental death of humans or animals etc. The objective is to find out the faults occurring in transmission line and location by using various types of sensors. Different sensors are placed on the transmission line to sense the faults, sag in transmission line, breakage in transmission line, voltage and current fluctuations, temperature rising etc. The sensed information is transmitted to the control center by using Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) as a wireless network. If the data received is not within the set limits, the control center will take the preventive and corrective actions to solve the particular fault.

ABSTRACT

The commercially available bone implants are made of stainless steel alloys; Cobalt based alloys and Titanium alloys etc. These implants exhibit unsatisfactory results after long exposure in human body like toxic metal ion release which causes local inflammation. Therefore, secondary surgery becomes necessary for implant removal. The conventional orthopedic implants are biocompatible but not biodegradable. Magnesium and its alloys show a great promise as a potential biocompatible and biodegradable material. They show a natural ability to degrade due to corrosion when placed within physiological environment. Thus, magnesium based alloys can be used as orthopedic implants. Besides supporting fractured bone, they also favor the tissue growth which is essential for bone healing process. Also, magnesium has matching mechanical properties with bone. The pure magnesium has high hydrogen evolution rate and high hemolysis rate in physiological conditions. Therefore, the mechanical and corrosion properties of pure magnesium can be improved by alloying. The magnesium alloys of recent concern include Mg-Ca based alloys, Mg-Zn based alloys, Mg-Zn-Ca based alloys, Mg-Zn-Mn based alloys, Mg-Sr based alloys, Mg-REE based alloys etc. In this review, various elements used for alloying and their effect on mechanical properties of the magnesium alloys are summarized. The corrosion behavior of magnesium based implants has been discussed. This review focuses on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of biodegradable magnesium alloys used for orthopedic implants.

ABSTRACT

In India brick sector is one of the biggest sector and India is the second largest producer of bricks after China in the world. Around 150 billion bricks are produced annually and to manufacture these almost 360 million tons of top fertile is consumed every year. And for this almost 24 million of coal as well as biomass is used and during whole process the estimated C02 emissions is about 41.6 million tons every year. Although there are number of drawbacks of this industry since this is the one of the main part of Indian economy this cannot be blocked. There are various researches are ongoing to reduce its horrific effect on the environment. We have tried to use one of the industrial waste i.e. Fly Ash as a replacement material to the Fertile Soil. In this we have done various laboratory tests at SGMCOE laboratory and manufactured bricks and baked in small scale kiln installed at college campus. The results are compared with the plain bricks the comparison shows the advantages of the replacement which will be definitely helpful to reduce the drawbacks in brick industry.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work is to provide brief review on the technologies proposed to predict the collision between vehicles, before the collision happens itself and smart activation of safety systems like air bag deployment, seat belt tightening. This paper also cover the review on the accident notification schemes proposed once the accident is predicted. At the later part of this paper, an ideal model for the accident prediction and notification system schematic is given. Most of the existing sensor system for automotive adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance uses the radar and laser technology for operation. The main disadvantage of those system is that it will work only if theater space between vehicles is greater than 1 m. This traditional sensor system is not up to detect the possibility of collision when inter vehicle spacing is small. We cannot actually relay on the collision detection mechanism which is based on sensing at larger distances. Hence in automotive industry, research on system which can predict the imminent collision just before the collision occurs has a great consideration and the sensor system development mainly concentrates on the relative velocity mea-cerement of the vehicles. An isotropic magneto-resistive (AMR)and sonar/ultrasonic sensors are adopted for development of the proposed sensor system. AMR sensors are used to measure the magnetic field and to get the relative position of vehicles. The main aim of the object is to develop a unique sensor system which can be used to estimate the planer position and orientation of vehicles to avoid vehicle collision by effectively predicting the possibility for collision. Once the accident is predicted, the camera system embedded in the vehicle will get activated and will capture snaps to gather information of the vehicles near tithe host vehicle. Once accident happens intimation in the form of alert message including accident location long with the snap information will be send to nearby hospitals or police station using GSM module.

ABSTRACT

Helical gears have become a subject of research interest because the dynamic load

attention of the noise level during operation and the demand for lighter and smaller in size. In such type of gears there is a problem of failures at the root of the teeth because of the inadequate bending strength and surface pitting. This can be avoided or minimized by proper method analysis and modification of the different gear parameters.Gearing is one of the most effective methods transmitting power and rotary motion from the source to its application with or without change of speed or direction. Gears will prevail as a critical machine element for transmitting power in future machines due to their high degree of reliability and compactness. The rapid development of heavy industries such as vehicle, ship building and aircraft industries require advanced of gear technology. Helical gears are currently being used increasingly as a power transmitting gear owing to their relatively smooth and silent operation, large load carrying capacity and higher operating speed. Designing highly loaded helical gears for power transmission systems that are good in strength and low level in noise necessitate suitable analysis methods that can easily be put into practice and also give useful information on contact and bending stresses. The finite element method is proficient to supply this information but the time required to generate proper model is a large amount.

ABSTRACT

Vibration-based energy harvesting for low-power electricity generation has been heavily researched over the last decade. The motivation in this research field is due to the

reduced power requirement of small electronic components, such as the wireless sensor networks used in passive and active monitoring applications. It enables autonomous wireless electronic systems by recovering the waste vibrational energy available in their environment. Vibration-based energy harvester generates the most energy when the generator is excited at its resonance frequency. A Simple model of Aluminium cantilever beam with unimorph piezoelectric patch of PZT- 5A is at the end. In this paper the ability of PZT Patch to generate voltage at different frequency range is explained. Whole work is done by use of ANSYS software. Approximately 70 percent of the world’s population is expected to live in cities by

2050 according to Gartner. This rapid urban growth is already placing a considerable strain

on the existing infrastructure, and with more people making the move to urban living, it’s only going to get worse in the coming years. To accommodate this new demand on cities, municipalities around the globe are turning to the Internet of Things innovation to enhance their services, reduce costs, and improve communication and interaction. Though the potential is there for IoT to improve nearly every aspect of urban living there are three IoT applications for smart cities. Internet of Things or IOT is basically a network of interconnected devices like sensors and smart devices that pass on information to each other and a supreme console via the internet. It is a way in which we interact with our belongings. All these devices generate data that is so humongous in amount that it will need hi-tech cloud applications to store, process and mine. ABSTRACT

Automatic motion planning and navigation is the primary task of an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) or mobile robot. All such navigation systems consist of a data

collection system, a decision making system and a hardware control system. Artificial

Intelligence based decision making systems have become increasingly more successful as they are capable of handling large complex calculations and have a good performance under unpredictable and imprecise environments. However the AGVS once setup move on a predefined path which is difficult to alter later. This project focuses on development of pathless automated guided vehicle which can move across the industry floor using smart technology developed. The proposed project can move across the industry floor on a predefined navigation model which does not use any path or magnetic tape on industrial floor thus making it more flexible to be used anywhere in the industry and modify the path as required without making any structural modifications. ABSTRACT

In recent years, scientists have learned a great deal about how the brain functions. The brain is composed of nerve cells, which are connected to other nerve cells by synapses to

form networks. A system of interconnected neurons forms neural networks which are of two types: a Biological Neural Network (interconnected nerve cells), and an Artificial Neural Network (ANNs). The ANNs are computational tools inspired by neurons in the brain, and are used to model a biological brain. The concept of ANNs can be applied in pattern recognition, anomaly detection, electronic noses, instant physician and in diagnosing the cardiovascular system via neural modeling. Scientist are looking at the development of artificial intelligence using the understanding of the architecture of the human brain; as research into potential systems of artificial intelligence, now looks to the brain for models rather than looking to technology for ideas from which to model the brain. Computation in the brain brings together computational concepts and behavioral data within a neurobiological framework.

ABSTRACT

The main drawback of Diesel engine is its noise which is harmful for human being.

Reduction of noise is current issue in today’s life. Silencer collects exhaust gas from Diesel engine, reduces the noise level of it and leave to atmosphere. The engine efficiency is depends on

how the exhaust gas is removed from the cylinder. The main objective of silencer is to attenuate a sound by reducing exhaust gas pressure, but it causes back pressure which affects engine efficiency. In this literature review, the recent researches on design of Silencer for diesel engine exhaust manifold, their performance evaluation using experimental methods as well as Numerical methods (CFD), various geometrical types of exhaust manifold and their impact on the performance had been collected and discussed.

ABSTRACT

Diesel engines are widely used in many areas like automobiles, locomotive marine engines power generations etc., due to its high power output and thermal efficiency. Even

though the diesel engines give more benefits, the human discomforts caused by the pollutant

emission of these engines have to be considered. The major pollutant emissions of the diesel

engines are particulate matters, smoke and the oxides of nitrogen (NOx). Now a day’s NOX

reduction is first aim to achieve emission controls due to its very hazardous effect on human being. All other methods are use for control the emission have many of disadvantages as we compared to this results which are achieve after construction and procedures. As we see, if we adopt this technology can give opportunity to use the low expensive fuels as much efficiently. We have not just problem of high expensive fuel but also large pollution is another issue. To control it; we have to find such solution that is best way to solved it. For that purpose we have introduced a best and suitable mechanism is named as EMMISSION REDUCER DEVICE (ERD), in another word it is the green mechanism.

ABSTRACT

The huge quantity of concrete is consumed by construction industry all over the world. In India, the conventional concrete is produced by natural sand obtained from

riverbeds as fine aggregate. Dwindling sand resources poses the environmental problem and

hence government restrictions on sand quarrying has resulted in scarcity and significant increase in its cost. This study presents the effect of the use of manufactured sand as fine aggregates in concrete. The experimental work is mainly concerned with the study of mechanical properties like compressive strength, flexural strength, and residual compressive strength of manufactured sand concrete at elevated temperature for various percentage of replacement of natural sand by manufactured sand. ABSTRACT

A heat pipe is a simple heat transfer device that can transport large quantities of

heat with a very small difference in temperature between the hot ends to the other end. In this

case study, the concept of the condensation process of heat pipe is applied in order to perform dehumidification process to remove extra moisture inside the air. The objective of this study

is to compare the efficiency between the primary heat pipe in evacuated condition and the

secondary heat pipe with water as the working fluid in order to perform the dehumidification process. The heat pipe device had been divided into 2 samples of specimens. First specimen of heat pipe using air whiles the other one used water as the working fluid. These two pipes were made without the wick but dealing with inclination of angle to see the performance of the heat pipe. These two heat pipes were built without the wick but dealing with inclination of angle to see the performance of the heat pipe. Both pipes were built by the total length of 400mm length and 8mm diameter using copper as the pipe material. Gravity pumping was used with the inclination angle to pump back the working fluid back to the evaporator section. The heat pipe was positioned at different angles of 0°, 30°, 60° and 90° with the horizontal. To achieve the objective of this study, both pipes were studied experimental and simulation to find the most efficiency between the primary heat pipe and the secondary heat pipe. The important parameter involves in the case study are the Merit Number, M and Heat Transfer Coefficient. After performing the experiments and simulation, the objective of this case study is achieved, which showed the secondary heat pipe is more efficient as a cooling heat transfer device.

ABSTRACT Strengthening and retrofitting of the structural members via external bonding of

advanced fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composite is becoming very popular worldwide during the past decade, because it provides more economical and technically superior

alternative to the traditional techniques in many situations as it offers high strength, low

weight, corrosion resistance, high fatigue resistance, easy and rapid installation and minimal change in structural geometry. Although many in-situ RC beams are subjected to impact and

abrasion effect in present construction practice, hence in this research work in addition to retrofitting using GFRP wrapping synthetic fibres are also used at the tension zone to resist impact and abrasion effect. In the present study an experimental investigation is carried out to study the behavior of continuous RC beams under static loading. The beams are strengthened with externally bonded glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) sheets. Beams without strengthening (jacketing & adding synthetic fibres at the tension zone) were considered as a control beams, whereas other specimens were externally bonded with GFRP sheets and synthetic fibers are provided at the tension face. The present study examines the responses of RC beams, in terms of failure modes, enhancement of load capacity and load deflection analysis. The results indicate that the flexural strength of RC beams can be significantly increased by gluing GFRP sheets and using synthetic fibers to the tension face. In addition, the epoxy bonded sheets improved the cracking behavior of the beams by delaying the formation of visible cracks and reducing crack widths at higher load levels. Also using the synthetic fibers increases impact and abrasion resistance and reduces water seepage and protects the steel. It gets mixed directly in the concrete. The experimental results were validated by using finite element method.

ABSTRACT

Anti-air pollution towers are being installed in many cities across the world to

fight air pollution. As air pollution is increasing day-by-day in Delhi because of heavy traffic

and another air pollution sources. So, Delhi government has installed an anti -air pollution tower to fight with bad air.The anti-pollution tower is fitted with exhaust fans to suck in

polluted air with the help of Maharashtra-based startup company Pi Greentech Solutions. A

machine inside the tower then removes nearly 90% of the particulate matter, helping to bring down pollution levels and spews fresh air out .At least six to seven more such anti-pollution towers will be set up at different locations of the city to curb air pollution, especially at busy traffic intersections. Once the trial is completed the government will decide future course of action. The Delhi government installed an ‘anti-pollution tower’ under the Indraprastha Marg flyover, near ITO, to fight air pollution that reach alarming levels, especially during the winter months. This device will not need electric grids to function as we can run it solely on solar power if there is adequate space. It will be cost-effective and environment-friendly.

ABSTRACT

This research looks at the work of minimizing human efforts and increase productivity. Mulching is the practice of covering the soil around plants to improve the

growing conditions for the crop. Laying of mulch paper manually in field is laborious and

time consuming. We know that avoiding growth of the weed on farm is very costly and time consuming task. Also in dry areas maintaining moisture in soil is very important for crop life.

Mulching the plastic paper film near the root area of plants is for eliminating the rise of

weeds also to retaining water and avoid de-moisturizing the soil but this process requires lots

of capital and time. .So ‘Drip irrigation pipe and Mulching paper laying machine’ will reduce the labour cost and time, It will do both the jobs i.e. laying irrigation pipe and mulching paper on the ground at a time. In order to improve growing condition of crops there are various methods that improves productivity, reduces water required to grow up the crops. But mulching paper which is also known as agriculture film is one of the best method to cover the soil and maintain required atmosphere around the crop. This mulching paper is available in different types but plastic mulching is famous requires less efforts so we have decided to work on automatic mulching paper laying machine which also have attachment for the drip laying.

P-39 PERFORMANCE OF MANUFACTURE SAND IN CONCRETE AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURE

N. R. Mali, A. V. Karvekar

Ashokrao Mane College of Engineering (AMGOI), Vathar

ABSTRACT

Cement concrete is the most widely used building material in the world because of

its high strength and mouldability. As there is increase in infrastructure development, demand

for the production of concrete has increased. The global consumption of natural sand is very

high, due to the extensive use in concrete and mortar. In general, the demand of natural sand

is quite high in developing countries to satisfy the rapid infrastructure growth. In this

situation the developing country like India is facing shortage in good quality of natural sand. Particularly in India, natural sand deposits are being depleted and causing serious threat to

environment as well as the society. Properties of aggregate affect the durability and

performance of concrete, so fine aggregate is an essential component of concrete and cement mortar. The most commonly used fine aggregate is natural river or pit sand. Natural or river sand are weathered and worn out particles of rocks and are of various grades or sizes depending upon the extent of wearing. Now-a-days good sand is not readily available, it is transported from a long distance. The artificial sand produced by proper machines can be a better substitute to river sand. The sand must be of proper gradation (it should have particles from 150 microns to 4.75mm). When fine particles are in proper proportion, the sand will have fewer voids. The cement quantity required will be less. Such sand will be more economical. Demand for manufactured fine aggregates for making concrete is increasing day by day as river sand cannot meet the rising demand of construction sector. Because of its limited supply, the cost of natural river sand has sky rocketed and its consistent supply cannot be guaranteed. River sand in many parts of the country is not graded properly and has excessive silt and organic impurities and these can be detrimental to durability of steel in concrete whereas manufactured sand has no silt or organic impurities.

ABSTRACT

The composite materials are well known by their excellent combination of high

structural stiffness and low weight. Their inherent anisotropy allows the designer to tailor the

material in order to achieve the desired performance requirements. Thus, the main objective

of this work is to contribute for a better understanding of the dynamic behaviour of components made from fiber reinforced composite materials, specifically for the case of

beams. In order to investigate the influence of the stacking sequence on the dynamic

behaviour of the components, experimental and numerical analysis using the Finite Element Method have been carried out. It is very important to design the composite material by

arranging volume fraction which gives optimum results at low cost and low weight. The

objective of this dissertation is to analyze experimentally and by finite element method the mechanical behavior of cantilever rod made of carbon fiber composite material. The advanced composite materials such as graphite, carbon, Kevlar and Glass with Suitable resins are widely used because of their high specific strength (strength/density) and high specific modulus (modulus/density). Composites consist of two or more materials or material phases that are combined to produce a material that has superior properties to those of its individual constituents. The constituents are combined at a macroscopic level and or not soluble in each other.

ABSTRACT Solid waste management (SWM) is worldwide problem and it is becoming more &

more difficult day by day due to rise in Population , Industrialization ,and change in our life

style . Kitchen waste can be easily decomposable. The conversion of kitchen waste into value

Population explosion rapid industrialization and trend of urbanization have resulted in

massive migration of people from rural to urban area as a result 100of tonnes of waste are

being generated.added is of more importance and on the other hand it controls a pollutants.

The Nitrogen, Potassium Phosphorous, Moisture Content, and Organic Carbon & C: N Ratio was analyzed. In the past few years there has been tremendous increase in food waste

generation due to rapid urbanization and industrialization .Population is also increasing and is

accepected to reach 9.5billion by 2050.Both of these factor have put an emphasis to employ novel techniques for management of waste generated so that waste generation could be reduced to a minimum or these waste could be converted in some valuable product. The aim of this work was to test combination of different additives with kitchen waste to improve the treatment efficiency and assess the optimum period required in each method to produce good quality compost. A 35 days composting helped in mass reduction moisture management, and pathogen reduction. Different additives gives different values of the nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, moisture content, C/N ratio, etc. These tests help more for management and use of kitchen waste as compost. Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) includes commercial, Institutional, Industrial, and Agricultural. The production of kitchen waste significantly increases along with the development of Restaurant, Industry as well as increase in consumption in India. More than 90% of MSW wastes were sent for unscientific land filling creating problems to public health and environment .From MSW the kitchen waste can be decomposed easily. Hence management of kitchen waste reduces or eliminates adverse impact on land contamination or pollution of soil and water. Keywords: C: N, Municipal Solid Waste, pathogen

Road safety authorities often create awareness of the dangers of distractions to

drivers and neglect to focus on the distractions facing pedestrians and passengers as well.We are now finding more and more accidents as a result of pedestrian inattentiveness and

passenger carelessness. These are not merely resulting from pedestrians who weren’t paying

attentions as they climbed up or down stairs, but also from motor vehicle crashes . This paper consists of literature review of pedestrian and passenger behavioral studies carried out

internationally.Pedestrians are vulnerable road users. Children are especially vulnerable road

users. International studies have shown that a systems approach, which gives attention to engineering, education, law enforcement measures and addressing human behavior of

ABSTRACT

Electric Discharge machining (EDM) is a well-known nonconventional machining

process. In electric discharge machining Dielectric fluid plays an important role as material

removal takes place due to repetitive spark discharge between an electrode and work piece. The main functions of dielectric are to flush through the spark gap to remove gaseous and

solid debris during machining and to maintain the dielectric temperature by acting as a

coolant. Dielectric fluids must have some properties such as low viscosity, good wetting capacity, high flash point, etc. However, environmental impact due to release of toxic

emission products, operator health concerns due to release of toxic fumes, vapors and

aerosols during the process, poor operational safety due to fire hazards and electromagnetic radiation, and toxic and non-biodegradable dielectric waste generated are some of the concserns still prevailing in EDM process. Current electric discharge machining (EDM) processes use hydrocarbon or synthetic-based dielectric fluids. These fluids emit harmful vapors when they break down, raising concerns for machine operators and for the environment. So to find possible alternative dielectric fluid, we will compare hydrocarbon or synthetic-based dielectric fluids with Bio-Dielectric fluids for improve working performance of EDM process. We will plan to review and experimental work with considering various dielectric fluid to eliminate disadvantage of hydrocarbon or synthetic-based dielectric fluids.

SIMPLE PYROLYSIS OF WASTE PLASTICS MADE FROM

POLYETHYLENE, POLYPROPYLENE AND POLYSTYRENE TO PRODUCE LIQUID FUEL

M.Y. Taral

General Science and Humanities Department, Sant Gajanan Maharaj Rural Polytechnic,

Mahagaon, 416 503, India

ABSTRACT Plastics waste becomes substantial problem for environment, especially in large

cities where most inhabitants use plastics extensively. It can be thermally treated by pyrolysis

process to produce useful liquid fuel in considerable amount. However, researches must be carried out in order to find the best process variables, such as temperatures, duration, initial

mass, etc., and also to obtain the best fuel characteristics, such as kinematic viscosity,

specific gravity, flash point, pour point, etc., which are appropriate to internal combustion

engines. In order to resemble the real plastics waste which is randomly mixed in waste

disposal areas, the research is conducted by varying the proportion of High Density

Polyethylene (HDPE), Polypropylene (PP) and Polystyrene (PS), which are mostly used

plastics types, as raw materials for pyrolysis. The pyrolysis products are solid, liquid and gas.

However, the research focuses only on liquid (oil) products. Those raw materials are pyrolyzed in a cylindrical tank with temperatures between 550 o C and 700 o C. Higher fraction of PS will increase production rates, oil fraction, kinematic viscosity and specific gravity. The maximum oil fraction is 80.72%, while specific gravity is 0.9208. PE as raw material will yield the highest kinematic viscosity and Reid Vapour Pressure, which are 1.422 mm 2 /s and 27.89 kPa, respectively. In terms of Flash and Pour points, oils obtained from PP, PS and their mixtures have the similar values, i.e below 10 o C and below-33 o C. On the contrary, oil from PE has higher pour point (18 o C), yet similar flash point. GC-MS (Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectroscopy) test results show that all oil are roughly 73%-95% dominated by atomic range of between C 6 and C 12, therefore they are more appropriate as gasoline fuel.

ABSTRACT

Energy is one of the most important resources for mankind and its sustainable

development. Today, the energy crisis becomes one of the global issues confronting us. Fuels

are of great importance because they can be burned to produce significant amounts of energy. Many aspects of everyday life rely on fuels, in particular the transport of goods and people.

Main energy resources come from fossil fuels such as petrol oil, coal and natural gas. Fossil

fuel contributes 80% of the world’s energy needs. Most industries use diesel machines for the production process. In the transportation sector, private vehicles, buses, trucks, and ships also

consume significant amounts of diesel. This situation leads to a strong dependence of

everyday life on fossil fuels. However, the growth of the population is not covered by

domestic crude oil production. Fossil fuel formation requires millions of years. Thus, fossil oils belong to non-renewable energy sources. The recent years suffers great stress from oil shortage. The term biofuel refers to solid (bio-char), liquid (ethanol and biodiesel), or gaseous (biogas, biohydrogen and biosynthetic gas) fuels that are predominantly produced from biomass. Biodiesel can replace fossil fuel as a “clean energy source”. It can protect the environment by reducing CO2, SO2, CO, HC. The carbon cycle of Biodiesel is dynamic through the photosynthesis process Plants absorb CO2, which is more than those discharged by the biodiesel combustion process. One way of reducing the biodiesel production costs is to use the less expensive feedstock containing fatty acids.

ABSTRACT The depleting reserves of fossil fuel and increasing demand and growing cost of diesel combined with strict emission norms, have necessitated the need for an alternative source of energy

that cansupplement or replace diesel. As an alternative fuel, in recent years biodiesel (methylorethylestersoffattyacids)has receivedconsiderable attention. This owes to the fact that it is

biodegradable, renewable, non-toxic, and safe to store. Further, because of about 10% inbuilt O2, the combustion is better, and consequently carbon monoxide emission is less. Both edible and non-edible

seeds have been explored for the production of biodiesel. From these seeds, oil is normally extracted using the solvent extraction technique or mechanical expeller. The solvent extraction technique gives

better yield. Due to the scarcity of edible oils in developing countries, many researchers have been working on non-edible oils like “jatrophacurcas, pongamiaglabra (karanja and mesuaferrea” Result

shave show SVO shave high viscosity high density, and low volatility as compared to diesel .The properties of SVO were found to improve by dilution and transistorsfication. The effects of dilution of

SVO with diesel have been studied, and it has been found that 15% SVO can be used in CI engine. Mesuaferreaplants(commonlyknownasiron wood nahar) are abundant in northeastern states of India and are also widely distributed in the forests of Ceylon, extending into Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia Mesuaferrea is a big tree,oftenbuttressdatthebasewithtrunkdiametersupto3ft.Itstimberis one of the hardestand heaviest and is used for railway crossties, heavy construction boat building mine props and tool handles. Mesuaferrea produces high-oil content seeds (58–75%). Its oil contains both saturated and unsaturated fatty acids and triglyceridesoflinoleic oleic, palmitic, and stearicacids. It was also found that its oil contained essentially 74.6% unsaturated fatty acids comprising mainly of oleic acid (52.3%)and linoleic acid (22.3%) and 25.4% saturated fatty acids. It is estimated that more than 10 million kilogram of mesuaferrea seeds are produced annually in the Assam. Not all these seeds find utilization in production of biodiesel. A process of conversion of mesuaferrea seed oil to petroleum-like crude oil. The oil extracted from the seeds was found to be similar to mineral crude oil.

P-47 IMPLEMENTATION AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF A CHANNEL RE-ASSIGNMENT ALGORITHM FOR WIRELESS MESH

NETWORKS

Achala.P.Narayankar

Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering,

Mahagaon 416 503, India

ABSTRACT

Channel assignment is among the most challenging issues for multi -radio wireless

mesh networks, given the variety of objectives that can be pursued and the computational complexity of the resulting problems. The channel assignment problem has been also shown

to be inter-dependent with the routing problem, i.e., the problem to determine the amount of

traffic flow to be routed on every link. Such a relationship raises the need to re-compute the channel assignment every time the traffic pattern changes. However, channel assignment

algorithms designed to assign channels from scratch will likely return a completely different

configuration of radios, which would disrupt the network operation for the time required to

switch to using the links established on the new channels. Experiments conducted show that

such a time may not be negligible, due to the resistance of routing protocols designed for wireless ad hoc and mesh networks to rapidly flagging a link as established/lost. Such a consideration, along with the observation that channel assignment algorithms may be suboptimal, led us to the design of a channel re-assignment algorithm that takes the current channel assignment into account and attempts to cope with the new traffic pattern in the best manner possible while modifying the channel on a limited number of radios. In my project, I illustrate such a channel re-assignment algorithm and evaluate its performance by means of simulations.

ABSTRACT

The coconut we buy in the store does not resemble the coconut you find growing

on a coconut palm. An untouched coconut has three layers. The outermost layer, which is

typically smooth with a greenish color, is called the exocarp. The next layer is the fibrous

husk, or mesocarp, which ultimately surrounds the hard woody layer called the endocarp. The endocarp surrounds the seed. Generally speaking, when you buy a coconut at the

supermarket the exocarp and the mesocarp are removed and what you see is the endocarp.

Every bit of the coconut is used. As a result, coconuts are called the “Tree of Life” and can produce drink, fiber, food, fuel, utensils, musical instruments, and much more. This is to

fabricate a coconut husk remover with shell cutter. At presently coconut husk is being

removed manually ,which require more time & more manual power .This coconut husk remover peels off the coconut husk from coconut fruit to obtain de-husked coconut fruit via using the engineering application such as pneumatic power .This machine consist with pneumatic cylinder, solenoid valve ,linkages ,husk remover ,base frame. ABSTRACT

Data security is the most important feature in communication and information

technology; for this reason Steganography is used in the data transmission. Steganography is the ability of hiding secret information into digital media like images so as to have secure

communication. The new hybrid approach by combining AES (Advance Encryption

Standard) with SHA-LSB (Secure Hash) algorithm used to provide more security and robustness. This hybrid approach uses a hash function to produce a pattern for hiding data

bits into LSB of RGB pixel values of the cover image. In this algorithm the encryption of

message takes place before hiding it into a cover image. If in any case the cipher text got revealed from the cover image, the intermediate person other than receiver can't access the message as it is in encrypted form. The performance of hybrid approach is compared in terms of PSNR(dB), Security level and BER (Bit Error Rate) with existing techniques. The robustness of hybrid approach is tested by applying different attacks as paper and salt noise, blur effect and cropping.

ABSTRACT

Flexural Strength of Wood Reinforced Steel Tube (WRST) is dependent on

Mechanical bond between the wood and steel interface. The tube size assumed to be constant and wood size is varied. The change in the size of the wood will control the bond strength

between the wood and steel interface. This bond strength will have considerable amount of

influence on flexural strength of the WRST. This paper present is to study the effect of change in the size of the wood which is reinforced in steel tube on flexural strength of

composite so produced. A rectangular wooden beam is reinforced into the C-35 steel tube.

The size of the carbon steel tube will be kept constant and the size of the wood beam will be

varied to obtain various type of fit. The variety of specimens will be modeled using a suitable

finite element software viz., ANSYS. The behavior under bending strength of material so

prepared will be studied under 3 point bending .Flexural strength, flexural stress at specified

strain levels, and flexural modulus can be calculated. The data obtained will be verified by

hand calculations and variation in results between the two methods will be studied. It is also proposed verify the results so obtained by carrying out few real life tests to validate results practically.

P-52 A REVIEW ON STRESS ANALYSIS OF THE FUSELAGE STRUCTURE AND STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF OVERLOAD ON FATIGUE CRACK

GROWTH

ABSTRACT

Catastrophic structural failures in many engineering fields like aircraft, automobile

and ships are primarily due to fatigue. Where any structure experiences fluctuating loading

during service its load carrying capacity decreases due to a process known as fatigue. Fatigue

damage accumulates during every cycle of loading the structure experiences during its operation. When this accumulated damage reaches a critical value, a fatigue crack appears on

the structure under service loading. A structure will have a finite fatigue life during which

fatigue cracks initiate and propagate to critical sizes leading to catastrophic failure of the structure. Therefore fatigue life consists of two parts: the first part is the life to the initiation

of fatigue crack and the second part is the fatigue crack propagation to final fracture. On the

other hand fatigue crack growth is the dominant phase for more ductile structures or material. Large structure like an aircraft has a large number of components which are mechanically fastened together to form the total airframe. Service experience indicates that designing airframes against fatigue failure is better served if it is assumed that the airframe has crack- like flaws right from day-one when it enters the service. Airframe will experience the variable loading during the service. If damage is present in the structure in the form of a crack then one needs to calculate the fatigue crack growth life. This is essential to properly schedule the inspection intervals to ensure the safety of the structure during its service.

P-53 FACTORS INFLUENCING CUTTING FORCES IN TURNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF SOFTWARE TO ESTIMATE CUTTING FORCES IN

TURNING

ABSTRACT

Cutting is a process of extensive stresses and plastic deformations. The high

compressive and frictional contact stresses on the tool face result in a substantial cutting force

F. Cutting forces are the background for the evaluation of the necessary power in machining (choice of the electric motor). They are also used for dimensioning of machine tool

components and the tool body. They influence the deformation of the work piece machined,

its dimensional accuracy, chip formation and machining system stability. The direct approach to study cutting forces in machining is very expensive and time consuming, especially when a

wide range of parameters is included: tool geometry, materials, cutting conditions, etc. The

different approaches are Artificial Neural Network, Current Sensor, Turning Dynamometer, Finite Element Method, Mathematical Simulations and Softwares. Here an attempt is made to

give a brief review on various approaches for estimating cutting forces and the effect of

cutting parameters on cutting forces in turning.

P-55 DOUBLE -DIFFUSIVE CONVECTIVE TRANSPORT IN A NANOFLUID - SATURATED POROUS LAYER WITH CROSS DIFFUSION AND

VARIATION OF VISCOSITY AND CONDUCTIVITY

ABSTRACT The onset of double-diffusive nanofluid convection in a fluid-saturated horizontal

porous layer is studied with thermal conductivity and viscosity dependent on the nanoparticle

volume fraction. The Darcy model has been used for the porous medium, while the nanofluid

incorporates the effects of Brownian motion along with thermophoresis. The nanofluid is

assumed to be diluted and this enables the porous medium to be treated as a weakly

heterogeneous medium with variation in the vertical direction of conductivity and viscosity.

In addition, the thermal energy equation includes regular diffusion and cross diffusion terms.

The linear stability analysis is based on the normal mode technique, while for nonlinear analysis, minimal representation of the truncated Fourier series representation involving only

two terms has been used. It is found that for the stationary mode the Soret parameter, Dufour

parameter, viscosity ratio, and conductivity ratio have a stabilizing effect, while the solutal Rayleigh number destabilizes the system. For the oscillatory mode, the Soret parameter,

Dufour parameter, and viscosity ratio have a stabilizing effect while the solutal Rayleigh

number and conductivity ratio destabilize the system. For steady finite amplitude motions, the heat and mass transport decreases with an increase in the values of the Dufour parameter and solutal Rayleigh number. The Soret parameter enhances the solute concentration Nusselt number while it retards the thermal Nusselt number and concentration Nusselt number. The viscosity ratio and conductivity ratio enhances the heat and mass transports. We also study the effect of time on transient Nusselt numbers which is found to be oscillatory when time is small. However, when time becomes very large, all three transient Nusselt values approach a steady value.

P-56 THE SHUNT ACTIVE POWER FILTER TO COMPENSATE REACTIVE

POWER AND HARMONICS WITH OPTIMIZED PI CONTROLLER IN A 3 PHASE 3 WIRE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

ABSTRACT In this paper is to study the denomination Power quality and large refers to

maintaining a proximal sinusoidal power distribution bus voltage at rated magnitude and

frequency. This is mainly affected by the generation of harmonics. Even though electronic

and non-linear devices are flexible, economical and energy efficient, they may degrade power

quality by creating harmonic currents and consuming excessive reactive power. A family of

various shunt hybrid active power filters has been explored in shunt and series configurations

to compensate for different types of nonlinear loads. They provide controlled current injection to remove harmonic current from the source side of electric system and also can

improve the power factor. This paper shows the method of improving the power quality using

shunt active power filter with proposed optimized PI. The proposed topic comprises of PI controller, filter hysteresis current control loop, dc link capacitor. The switching signal

generation for filter is from hysteresis current controller techniques. With the all these

element shunt active power filter reduce the total harmonic distortion. Its source current, compensating current and THD values are studied, then PI control strategy is applied then the

differences in THD are compared. The PI feedback compensation design starts with the small signal system’s transfer function. Then an optimum constant of PI for a Shunt-APF is proposed and implemented to enhance its response to compensation of harmonics of linear and non-linear loads. The obtained results have demonstrated the ability to compensate the current harmonics effectively under distorted source conditions. The fluctuation in the dc bus voltage of the filter depends on the compensation speed of the outer loop that regulates the dc bus voltage. The proposed shunt active filter model uses balanced linear and non-linear load works successfully lowers the THD within IEEE norms and satisfactorily works to compensate current harmonics. The model is made in MATLAB / SIMULINK and successfully reduces the harmonic in the source current. ABSTRACT

Milk production in India is quadrupled in last 40 years and India is largest milk production country in the worlds. In India milk collected from farmer by dairy. Mostly all

dairies are cooperative based and small scale. Therefore dairies are unable to spend

expenditure on automated milk collection system using PC and software which is available in market. The proposed system make complete automation of milk collection system using PIC

controller (PIC 16F 877A). The heart of system is PIC controller which replaces PC in

conventional one. Due to PIC controller speed of operation increases, it helps to save time. In

proposed system thermal printer is used for printing instead of the older bulkier one, and it

not requires ink for printing mechanism as well as the thermal printer prints faster than the conventional printer. The system size is compact like portable device. Due to its simplicity it

is more useful in villages, as there is no need of technical operator, farmers can also handle it properly.
