Tips from a Pro To lower your score…fine tune your short game! Short game shots make up nearly 70 percent of all shots taken in a round of golf. What does this mean for you? Well, for starters if you’re looking to improve your score start by examining your short game and determining weak areas. Once you focus in on your problem areas here are some suggestions for practice. CLINICS Putting: Keep track of total putts during a round. For most players, averaging 2 putts per hole will be the goal. Practice with one ball on the putting green giving yourself short, medium, long, uphill, downhill and sidehill putts, finishing out each putt just Free for Sun City Residents & their guests! like you’re playing a round. If you play all 9 holes on the putting green, your goal score would be 18. Play against a partner and it’s even more fun! Open to Men & Women; Junior golfers welcome! Chipping: Practice chipping with both a lofted club (like a PW) and a less lofted club No registration required! (like a 7). The wedge will jump and run about the same amount, and the 7 will run 3 times further then it will jump. Visualize a hula-hoop around the hole and see how If you’re looking to improve your game or are just beginning to play. many times out of 5 you can get the ball onto the green and within that distance. Water Conservation Water Wise Tips for the Yard & Patio

Finally! It’s that time of year when we can enjoy the beautiful weather. While you’re out and about, don’t neglect to survey your yard and patio areas and see if there’s not some water wasting situations that might need your attention. Sun City Gives Back Sundial Craft Gifts to Local School Children and Homeless Seniors Alike The busy crocheters, knitters and loomers from Sundial Craft Club had just finished making several hundred hats for Stitches of Love’s “Back to School” distribution.

It occurred to the club members that if they had more yarn that they could make even more hats for people who needed them. A search of area charities helped locate the Justa Cen- ter. Soon their leader Wendy came to the club to meet our members. The mission of the Justa Center is to help seniors who are homeless who desire to get back into housing. Yes, people our age homeless and on the streets in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Sundial Craft Club members quickly got to work and created over 200 hats and scarves by the middle of September and ready for delivery before winter arrives.

Your donations could help Sundial Craft continue this proj- ect. If you have yarn stored that you no longer use, please bring it to our clubroom any Monday or Thursday morning. You’ll be helping others by helping us with your generosity.

Thanks Sundial Crafts for another great example of Sun City giving back to those in need! Fabulous job!

Aqua Fitness Club

Meet the Instructors of the Sun City Aqua Fitness Club, one of the lon- gest running Clubs in Sun City. Currently there are nine Instructors with varying years of teaching the Club’s Aqua Fitness classes.

But Beth, Carol, Edna, Elza, Georgeanne, Harriet, Janet, Susan and Velda – weren’t water aerobics instructors in their pre-retirement years. Just to name a few of the careers and activities that they left behind – nursing, modeling, telephone operator, accounting manager, employee benefits manager, physical education teacher and instructor at elementary and college levels, entertainment, post office employee, restaurant owner, school teacher and principal, call center manager, kitchen and bath designer, small business owner, volunteer and fund raiser for support groups, amusement park employee, bank manager, helped build circuit boards for the space industry, parenting – and so many more.

And they came to Sun City from all over the country. When needed, four Substitute Instructors are available to step in for the Instructors. For class, membership and registration information, check out our website at www.aquafitnesssuncity.com. No need to know how to swim. You just have to enjoy the water and have fun! Our Instructors will show you how to do the exercises while they enjoy water aerobics. Classes are offered year round, inside and outside. Club membership, classes and events are open to all RCSC Cardholders only. PAGE 14 CLUB ARTICLES SUNVIEWS • NOVEMBER 2019
