Student Achievements

Several students attended the Cross Country Championships held at College on Saturday, on an incredibly muddy course! Year 8 pupils Tyler Hawley and Lucy Richardson both had fantastic races and even though running against both Year 8 and 9 pupils, gave strong performances.

Tyler came a fabulous 5th and is automatically selected to represent Staffordshire in the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Leeds In March. Lucy came 7th and is on the reserve list for the same event.

Congratulations to them both, well done!

Bikeability

Well done to all of our Y5 and Y6 students who took part in the two day bikeability training. We are proud of you all and thank you to Mrs Walker, who organised the event. If you give permission for your child to now cycle to school, you need to complete the ‘Cycle Permission’ letter that is available from Y5 Class Teachers and the School Office.

Y5 Parents Evening

Thank you to all of the Parents who attended the evening last night. We hope that you found it informative. Next week is Y7 Parents’ Evening.

Parish Council

We have received a letter from the Council asking school to remind all parents to be thoughtful to residents in regards to parking around the school. Thank you to the vast majority of parents/ carers that are thoughtful and patient at the start and end of the school day.

Pupils equipment checklist

All pupils at PMS are asked to provide basic equipment for their personal use in lessons. This is to ensure that learning can happen as efficiently as possible and to avoid any delay in lessons. Pupils should always bring with-

 A Pen  A Pencil  A Green pen, for feedback  A Rubber  A Ruler  A Pencil Sharpener  Their Organiser  A Water bottle  A Reading book

Many of these items are available from the school shop, or pupils are more than welcome to bring their own to school.

Over the following weeks we will have a focus on equipment, including P.E. equipment. All class teachers will be helping their classes with reminders for equipment.

Pupils may wish to bring additional equipment, which is encouraged, however we do ask that all students only bring a single pencil case to school.

Thank you

Year 6

Professor McGinty

Thank you to all parents and carers who made last week’s visit from Professor McGinty possible. Each class thoroughly enjoyed a one-hour workshop with the professor, his time machine and box of doom!

The visit complemented your child’s learning about the Victorian era. It provided them with opportunities to discover what life was life during this period, accompanied with: exciting artefacts, special effects, sounds, vision and music. I would like to congratulate Year 6 on their fantastic conduct and participation during the interactive workshop.

Well done, Year 6.

Mr Cole

YEAR 6 ONLY Parents’ Evening – Year 6 Thursday 1st March 2018 4.00pm – 7.00pm Year 6 Parents’ Evening will be held on the above date. This is your opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with his/her subject teachers. The evening will be held in the Hall and Music Room and appointments will be made at five minute intervals. During this parents’ evening, teachers will discuss your child’s progress, the level they are working at and future targets. It is vital that we keep to five minute appointments if we are to see everyone on the night. If you have any other important issues you would like to discuss, you may need to arrange to speak to the teacher on another occasion. Your child’s books will be available to view in the Year 6 classrooms so please allow time before or after your appointments to do this. To ensure that your child has adequate time to collect appointments, please indicate your preferences on the attached appointment sheet as soon as possible. Your child will use this sheet to record your appointments and then will need to pass the sheet back to you prior to the evening. If possible, your child should attend with you.

We will of course keep the other students until 3.30pm. You will receive a letter the week prior to your child’s Reading Café.

Year 6 Football

On Friday 2nd February the Year 6 football team from Penkridge (also containing goalkeeper Harry from Year 5) travelled to Highfields Primary School in for their first game of 2018.

The game began with an early chance for Penkridge which was well taken by Fraser putting them one nil up within the first minute (although not quite as quick as Tottenham's goal against Manchester United 2 nights earlier). The early goal filled the Penkridge boys with confidence and they added goals from captain Rafe, Cooper and a fourth from Joe to give them a very strong half-time lead.

The second half began with the home team on the attack and with all of the Penkridge boys in the opposing half; despite his heroics, goalie Harry had no chance when finding himself facing four Highfields players alone. Normal service was soon resumed, however, when captain Rafe completed his hat-trick with his second and third. Space opened up late in the game for James to add a seventh but unfortunately for him he hit the post twice.

Six-one sounds a whitewash but this was not the case, Highfields were a strong team and it was the sheer quality of passing and teamwork that produced this great result for Penkridge. Well done.

The boys look forward to matches against John Sheldon and Bridgtown after half term.

Team: Rafe, Joe, Cooper, James, Cameron, Matthew, Fraser, Harry, Spencer

Football at FC

On Saturday morning many of the boys who had played against Highfields the night before were joined by friends from Year 5, Chase High School and High School for a day of football at Walsall FC.

On arrival at the Banks’s Stadium the boys enjoyed 90 minutes of coaching on the 4G pitch before acting as ball boys for the League 1 game v MK Dons. With both teams near the bottom of the table this was a must win game and the boys had an important job to keep it flowing.

The game was a tight affair but Walsall secured a vital one-nil win thanks to a second half goal.

Despite the less than pleasant weather everyone had a great day and were excellent ambassadors for their school and Walsall FC. None more so than Matthew Tuck who was awarded with a signed football for his effort and enthusiasm.

School Disco Update

The school disco to be hosted on Thursday 15th February 2018 and run between 5 – 6:30pm is now available to all year groups. Ticket sales for this event have been strong and if you still need to buy your ticket look out for the School Council in the library at lunchtimes.

The previously advertised Key Stage 3 disco between 7 – 8:30pm is cancelled due to a lack of interest. KS3 students with tickets can still attend the 5 – 6:30pm event.

On Thursday 15th February 2018 we will be hosting a school disco in the main hall for all years to raise funds to improve the facilities (e.g. Lockers) and activities (e.g. at lunchtimes) available to students. DJ Meredith, a tuck shop and photographing will be available on the night.

Please drop your son/daughter off at 5pm and arrange for the to be collected by a parent or responsible adult at 6:30pm.

Students can buy their tickets from the School Council for £2 at lunchtimes. They are reminded that good behaviour is expected from all and no mobile phones or chewing gum should be brought on the evening. Should students’ wish to have a photograph taken on the evening then Mr Smith will be present to take photographs and print a memento copy for a small contribution. Therefore, a small amount of money may be brought on the evening to spend at the tuck shop and photo booth.

Parents must adhere to the timings listed above to ensure the smooth running of the evening and collect their child(ren) from the main hall at the end of the evening at the correct time.
