GOLDEN KNIGHTS LAST GAME RECAP GAME 5: OCTOBER 15, 2017: VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 3 VS. 1 The Vegas Golden Knights returned to their winning ways, defeating the Boston Bruins 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The game was tight until late in the second period when Alex Tuch and Vadim Shipachyov each scored their first NHL goals, giving Vegas a 2-0 lead after two periods. Malcolm Subban was stellar in his first NHL victory, stopping 21 of 22 shots. Subban, who was a first round pick by the Bruins in 2012, was 30 seconds away from his first career , but Boston was able to post a late goal. Oscar Lindberg followed up by scoring an empty net goal with 14 seconds left in the game to clinch the victory for the Golden Knights. TONIGHT’S STORYLINES -The Vegas Golden Knights became the first expansion team in NHL history to start with a 3-0-0 record, besting the Oakland Seals and who both started the 1967-68 season with a 2-0-1 record. -James Neal is off to a hot start for the Golden Knights, scoring the first two goals in franchise history against the and the winner against the one night later. He added his fourth and fifth goals of the year in the Golden Knights 5-2 win over Arizona and posted his fourth consecutive game with a goal, scoring his sixth goal of the season against Detroit. Neal became the first player in NHL history to score the first two game winning goals in a franchise’s history and he joined Real Cloutier of the as the only players in the expansion era to score five or more goals in an expansions team’s first three games. His six goals rank tied for second in the NHL only behind Alex Ovechkin who has nine goals. -Per the Elias Sports Bureau, Vadim Shipachyov, a 30-year-old Russian-born forward making his NHL debut, scored the game- winning goal for the Vegas Golden Knights in their 3–1 victory against the Bruins. Since 1967–68, when the league expanded to 12 teams, the only other player to make his NHL debut with a first-year expansion club and score the game-winning goal in his first game was Hall of Famer Gilbert Perreault. The Hockey Hall of Famer and former Sabres defenseman is the seventh alumnus to serve as the team’s head coach.

Housley joined the Sabres after helping to guide the Nashville Predators to their first ever Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2016. Named an assistant coach on May 22, 2013, Housley was a driving force behind one of the NHL’s best defensive groups throughout his tenure.

A native of South St. Paul, Minnesota, Housley began his coaching career in 2004 as head coach of Stillwater Area High School in Minnesota.
