THE FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION Senate Resolution Senate Resolution #: 46 Sponsored by: Senators Adamyk, Harris, Ready Whereas: Coach Mike Martin has devoted his life to the FSU Seminoles, initially graduating in 1966 and coming back in 1975 to coach Baseball for over 39 years; and Whereas: Under Coach Martin's tenure, Florida State has made 41 straight postseason appearances, which remains the longest active streak in the country; and Whereas: Coach Martin has won nineteen (19) conference championships for the Seminoles and appeared in 16 College World Series; and Whereas: Coach Mike Martin is a thirteen-time Conference Coach of the Year: Six times in the Metro Conference and Seven times in the Atlantic Coastal Conference; and Whereas: Coach Mike Martin has coached, in his career, a total of 139 Baseball All-Americans; and Whereas: Coach Mike Martin has coached over 50 players who would then go on to play Major League Baseball; and Whereas: Several of his former players include, but are not limited to: Deion Sanders, Doug Mientkiewicz, Paul Wilson, J.D. and Steven Drew, Lincoln Jarrett, and Buster Posey; and Whereas: Coach Mike Martin is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division 1 college baseball history; therefore Be it resolved by the Seventy-first Student Senate the Florida State University that: The Student Senate congratulates FSU Baseball Head Coach Mike Martin on a highly successful coaching career, thanks him for all of his hard work and dedication to Florida State, and wishes him all the best in his retirement. DICK HOWSER TROPHY COMMITTEE Contact: Bo Carter ([email protected]) June 15, 2019 OREGON STATE’S RUTSCHMAN NAMED 2019 DICK HOWSER TROPHY RECIPIENT OMAHA, Neb. – Catcher Adley Rutschman of Oregon State is the 33rd recipient of the Dick Howser Trophy, presented by The Game Headwear, as college baseball's Player of the Year. The announcement came at a national news conference Saturday morning at TD Ameritrade Stadium as OSU’s first winner of the prestigious award met with a group of national media. He is the first Beavers player honored with the Howser Trophy, which originated in 1987. Rutschman also is the fourth recipient to be the first overall selection in the Major League Baseball free agent draft and capture the award, joining Clemson pitcher Kris Benson (1996), Vanderbilt pitcher David Price (2007) and San Diego State pitcher Steve Strasburg (2008). Rutchsman was selected by the Baltimore Orioles as the opening player in last week’s draft. The 2019 consensus first team All-America choice was honored in voting by the Howser Trophy committee and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He is the second all-time winner from the Pac-12 Conference after Mark Prior of Southern California captured the 2001 honor. Rutschman, a 6-2, 216-pound switch hitting and righty throwing junior catcher from Sherwood, Ore., also was the 2019 Pac-12 Player of the Year, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, and a finalist for the Buster Posey Award, which honors the nation’s top catcher in 2019 and is named in honor of the 2008 Dick Howser Trophy recipient.

Father is a career Marine who now lives in Ohio. • Mom Kim Drummond worked in sales for a tech company and as a black-jack and poker dealer and server at Hard Rock casino. • He first picked up a bat at two years old. Considers himself a utility player, comfortable at short, second and third, and said Derek Jeter was his favorite player. Like Jeter, Arroyo is well spoken. • Loved Hernando High School and called himself a “math and science geek” who enjoyed AP calculus. He had a 4.4 GPA in high school and says he would have studied engineering in college if he had not signed a pro baseball con- tract. • In 2012, he represented the United States in the under-18 world champion- ships in Korea, was the tournament MVP and helped the U.S. win the gold with a .387 average. His performance landed him in the September 21, 2012, issue of Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd, a nice kickoff to his senior year of high school. • First-round pick out of high school in 2013 and hit .326 that summer in rookie ball. • Spent 2014 in Low-A Augusta, where he hit .203 in 31 games before sustaining a hyperextended thumb. “That was kind of a rude awakening to baseball,” Arroyo told Alex Pavlovic of CSN-Bay Area in spring 2015. “It’s something that helped me a lot. MLB.COM Improved NL Central poses challenge to retooled Reds Cincinnati has addressed shortcomings, but so have division foes January 16, 2013, 2:41 PM ET By Mark Sheldon CINCINNATI -- Not content with exiting the postseason as early as they did in 2012, the Reds made the effort this winter to fill holes and make upgrades. Theoretically, the additions should have the Reds improved and poised to repeat as National League Central champions. But of course, it's rarely that easy. Many of Cincinnati's rivals have been busy, too. "I still think the division will be tough," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. "We have to stay healthy and play like we have been playing." While finishing 97-65 and winning the division by nine games over the Cardinals, the Reds were bounced in five games by the Giants as some of their weaknesses were exposed. Cincinnati lacked a true leadoff hitter, another dominant-type starter for the rotation and help on the bench. In their biggest move of the offseason, the Reds found their leadoff hitter by working a three-way trade that acquired outfielder Shin-Soo Choo from the Indians. It cost them no pitching but sent underperforming center fielder Drew Stubbs to Cleveland and shortstop prospect Didi Gregorius to Arizona. Reds leadoff hitters combined for a .254 on-base percentage in 2012 and Choo had a .389 OBP when he led off last season. For its riskiest move of the offseason, the club has decided to try moving lefty flamethrower Aroldis Chapman from closer to the rotation.
