S'elegas Nuragus di DOC 2014 W I N E D E S C R I P T I O N Argiolas is the foremost wine estate on the island of producing archetypal wines from native varietals. The winery was founded in 1938 by Antonio Argiolas and was the first on the island to pursue quality over quantity. Today, the Argiolas family is recognized as Sardinia’s leading producer of wine.

Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean and lies roughly 190 miles west of 's mainland. The vineyards of Argiolas are located in in the Trexenta hills just north of the capital of Cagliari. Argiolas farms 600 acres of native Sardinian grapes including Nuragus, Monica, and Cannonau.

S’elegas is made from Nuragus, a white grape variety believed to be one of the oldest in Sardinia and a native of the Trexenta hills. Nuragus is also the name of the prehistoric mortarless stone huts found throughout Sardinia, an image of which is on the label.

T A S T I N G N O T E S The wine is vinified in stainless-steel tanks to preserve the fresh fruit aromas and flavors of the Nuragus grape. Lemons and peaches complement undertones of nuts and herbs. On the palate, bright acidity, light body, and a slightly bitter finish make for a perfect warm weather quaffer.

F O O D P A I R I N G Nuragus is an ideal aperitivo but can easily be paired with light seafood preparations such as crudo di pesce or ceviche. Baked white fish or cooked shellfish also work with Nuragus, especially if the preparations are kept simple and ingredients are kept to a minimum. It’s a perfect wine for light summer fare.
