Master CV- Education Forum 2016 7th Arab -German Education and Vocational Training Forum dbb forum Berlin October 5th - 6th, 2016 Master of CVs Opening Ceremony Ulrich Meinecke Head of iMOVE: Training – Made in Germany at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) , Germany Ulrich Meinecke studied Science of Education and Science of Politics at the Philipps University Marburg. Until 2009 he was working in the field of social and labour relations. He was chief negotiator for collective contracts for blue and white collar workers as well as trainees in the retail and the wholesale sector of the Federal State of Hamburg, on behalf of the service sector union. From early 2009 until 2013 he was Head of Department for Social and Labour Affairs, Vocational Education & Training at the German Embassy, New Delhi. Back to Germany in late 2013 he joined the BIBB, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education & Training, as Deputy Head of the German Office for International Cooperation in VET (GOVET). He managed the “Round Table for International Cooperation in VET”, part of the international strategy of the federal government. Since January 2015, he is Head of “iMOVE – Training made in Germany”. iMOVE was initiated by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research to support the German training industry in its export business. iMOVE is the gateway to the German training industry for governments and companies all over the world. Abdulaziz Al -Mikhlafi Secretary General, Ghorfa Arab -German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Germany Abdulaziz Al-Mikhlafi was born in Taiz in the Republic of Yemen in 1963. In 1985 he took up the diplomatic service having completed his studies of economics and political science at the University Sana’a, Republic of Yemen. Afterwards he worked as 3rd Secretary at the General Consulate of the Republic of Yemen in Jeddah, Saudi-Arabia. From1989 to 1990 he studied at the Diplomatic Institute in Cairo, Egypt. From 1990 to 1993 he held the position of 2nd and then 1st Secretary at the Minister Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Yemen. From 1993 to 06/2000 he performed as 1st Secretary and Counsellor the position of head of department for economic and consular affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Bonn. Beside his professional activities he completed a Master’s Master of CVs 7th Arab-German Education and Vocational Training Forum programme in the field of political science at the University Bonn. Since 1st July 2000 he has been Secretary General of the Arab-German Association for Commerce and Industry. In September 2004 Mr. Al-Mikhlafi has been appointed Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Yemen. In July 2016 Mr. Al-Mikhlafi was awarded with the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Moreover he was appointed as economic advisor for the president of the Republic of Yemen in August 2016. He is a frequent speaker and moderator in various forums and conferences in Germany, Europe and the Arab World. Mr. Al-Mikhlafi is married and has five children. Dr. Peter Ramsauer President of the Ghorfa Arab -German Chamber of Commerce & Industry , Federal Minister ret., Germany Dr. Peter Ramsauer was born on the 10th February 1954. He graduated from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich with a degree in business administration in 1979, and was awarded a doctorate in governance and public policy in 1985. Additionally he passed the journeyman’s examination in 1977 and the master craftsman’s examination in 1980. Dr. Ramsauer has been Member of the German Bundestag since 1990 and from 1998 to 2005 he was Chief Whip of the CSU parliamentary group and from 2005 to 2009 Leader of the CSU parliamentary group. In the former period from 2009 to 2013 he was Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Development. Currently Dr. Ramsauer is Chairman of the German Bundestag’s Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy, and since June 2014 President of the Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Dr. Ramsauer is married and has four children. H.E. Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka Federal Minister, Federal Minister of Education and Research , Germany H.E. Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka has been Federal Minister of Education and Research and a member of the Government of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel since February 2013. Previously, she was Minister of Science, Research and Culture of the state of Brandenburg for nine years from 2000 to 2009 and then Minister with the same portfolio in Lower Saxony from 2010 to 2013. Johanna Wanka worked in research and higher education for many years. After she had been appointed Professor for Engineering Mathematics at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences in 1993, she was elected Rector in 1994, an office she held until 2000. She had received her doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) in 1980 for her thesis entitled "Lösung von Kontakt- und Steuerproblemen mit potential-theoretischen Mitteln ". She served as Vice- President of the Rectors’ Conference in the state of Saxony-Anhalt from 1994 to 1998 and then as a member of the Standing Committee on Planning and Organization of the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) from 1998 to 2000. Johanna Wanka had begun her professional career as an academic associate at the Technical University of Merseburg in 1974 after studying mathematics at the University of Leipzig from 1970 to 1974. She had obtained her Abitur to complete her secondary education in Torgau in 1970. Johanna Wanka has been politically active for many years. She was a founder member of New Forum in Merseburg in September 1989, and served as a member of Merseburg district assembly from 1990 to 1994. She joined the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in March 2001, and was elected to the parliament of the state of Brandenburg in 2004, where she served as Chairwoman of the CDU parliamentary group from 2009 to 2010. She was also Chairwoman of the party in Brandenburg from 2009 to 2010. Johanna Wanka was born on April 1, 1951 in Rosenfeld (in what is now the state of Saxony). She is married with two children. Mit Freude habe ich die Korrespondenz verfolgt, die sich rund um die von Dr. Lindenthal und mir verfasste Stellungnahme zur Forschungsstrategie 2020 ergeben hat, lässt sich doch daraus ablei- ten, dass Sie an den Stellungnahmen inhaltlich interessiert sind. Dafür, dass die zeitliche Koordi- nation unsererseits nicht ganz geklappt hat – wir haben Ihnen unsere Stellungnahme später zuge- schickt, als manchen Kollegen oder z.B. dem ORF – möchte ich mich entschuldigen. Wir hatten die Kollegenschaft möglichst früh motivieren wollen, sich mit der Forschungsstrategie zu befas- sen, und/oder sich unserer Stellungnahme anzuschließen, und das musste naturgemäß passieren, bevor wir unsere Stellungnahme abschickten. Sehr gerne würden wir unsere Überlegungen und unsere tiefe Sorge aber auch direkt mit den Mit- gliedern des Rates diskutieren – zumal unsere Intervention nicht von dem Bestreben getrieben ist, die eigenen Forschungsbereiche „abzusichern“, sondern von Sorge um die künftige globale Ent- wicklung, natürlich auch die Österreichs. Ich bin gerade von einer hochkarätig besetzten Tagung in Deutschland zurückgekehrt und komme mir wie eine Reisende zwischen zwei Welten vor: Die Welt, in der es um Wettbewerb zwischen den Industrienationen, um technologischen Fortschritt und wirtschaftliche Vorteile geht, und die auch hinter der Forschungsstrategie 2020 steht, und die Welt, in der es um die Erarbeitung ge- meinsamer, globaler Lösungen geht, weil die Herausforderungen, vor denen die Menschheit steht, so enorm sind, dass sie mit nichts geringerem als einer immensen gemeinsamen weltweiten An- strengung unter Einbindung von Wissenschaft, Gesellschaft, Wirtschaft und Politik bewältigbar sind.

Gast in unserer Sendung ist die Bundesministerin für Bildung und Forschung, Frau Professor Dr. Johanna Wanka. Ich freue mich sehr, dass Sie hier bei uns sind, herzlich willkommen, Frau Bundesministerin. Wanka: Ich freue mich gleichfalls, hallo, Herr Reuß. Reuß: Ich darf vielleicht gleich mit Ihrem Ministerium beginnen: Dieses Ministerium hat acht Abteilungen, also eine Zentralabteilung und sieben Fachabteilungen. Es arbeiten wohl knapp 1000 Menschen in diesem Ministerium und es hat – auch bedingt durch die deutsche Einheit – zwei Dienststellen: eine in Bonn und eine hier in Berlin. Sind diese zwei Dienstorte für Sie eher beschwerlich oder ist das mit Blick auf den Bildungsföderalismus vielleicht ganz gut so? Wanka: Sie haben es ganz richtig gesagt, das ist damals durch das Bonn-Berlin- Gesetz entschieden worden. Drei Viertel der Mitarbeiter sitzen in Bonn, ein Viertel sitzt in Berlin. Das Ganze ist in diesem Haus nun schon seit Jahren bestens organisiert. Zum Teil wird gependelt und auch ich selbst fliege immer wieder nach Bonn. Aber wir haben mittels Videotechnik auch die gute Möglichkeit, ganz spontan sagen zu können, dass wir mit den und den Leuten ganz direkt sprechen möchten. Da setzt man sich dann hin, kann sich per Videokonferenz sehen und miteinander reden. Das ist also bestens organisiert. Natürlich hat das Vorteile, wenn alles an einem Standort konzentriert ist, aber hier sind eben politische Befindlichkeiten zu berücksichtigen gewesen.

Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Beckhoff at Hannover Messe As part of her traditional opening-day tour of the Hannover Messe, German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel visited the Beckhoff booth on 7 April 2014, where Managing Director Hans Beckhoff presented his company and the basic technologies it produces for the Industry 4.0 concept. Among the people accompanying Chancellor Merkel was Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, this year’s official partner country of the trade show, Dr. Johanna Wanka, Federal Minister of Education and Research, Stephan Weil, Prime Minister of the state of Lower Saxony, 50 other guests and about 100 journalists. Hans Beckhoff and his employees welcomed the illustrious delegation. After a short presentation of his company, Beckhoff explained the benefits of his company’s control and drive technology, using a Embedded PC and the eXtended Transport System (XTS) as examples for innovative technolo- gies from Beckhoff enabling “Integrated Industry”, according to the motto of this year’s Hannover Messe.     acatech Annual Report 2016Home Foreword Dear readers, Whether it be in the form of robotic assistants, new ways of producing energy or breakthroughs in biotechnology, technological innovations can significantly improve a society’s productivity and living standards. But technology is not neutral – the way it is used must be shaped by policy. Technology can only help a country to modernise and remain competitive if the opportunities and challenges associated with innovative developments are subject to public debate and negotiation. This was a running theme in the speeches and many of the discussions at the acatech Annual Meeting in autumn 2016. In a powerful address, Federal President and acatech patron Joachim Gauck stressed that it is particularly important to promote receptiveness to new technologies in Germany because of the nation’s “deep-rooted tendency to lose confidence at the first sign of any risk”. He praised acatech’s efforts to foster dialogue between academia, industry and government as an important contribution to the much-needed development of a better understanding of technology. Going forward, the Federal President encouraged the Academy to keep building bridges with the public and engaging in discussions to identify scientifically sound visions of how Germany can get fit for the future. acatech continued to develop its dialogue with the public in 2016. On the first Tuesday of every month, we now invite interested parties to the acatech Forum in Munich to discuss topical technology themes with the experts. Advisory groups of actors from civil society form an integral part of our projects. Through its partnership with the recently established Science Media Center, acatech assists journalists with their research by providing them with science-based expertise.
