2ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Words from THE GATHERING: IS IT IMPORTANT?

We are aware of the saying that tells us that there is strength in numbers, it comes from the power of the human person to bond and forge a community. would tell us that “For where two or three of you are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Mt. 18:20)” This flies in the face of people who have told me that they pray or worship God better alone. Indeed, for certain forms of prayer, Jesus us tells us to go to an interior room; again this is for private prayer. I recall an experience of a sunset on a glorious summer Father Norm evening on the shore of a totally calm lake. The still water reflected the lake shore like a mirror. All the colors of the sunset reflected on the waters surface. To make this a perfect experience I needed to share the moment with another; simply saying it’s so beautiful. Just sharing this would have made this scene yet more divinely beautiful. I have heard many reasons for not attending worship in the company of others; all have missed the mark. They have more to do with our personal experience and perceived short comings of the Church. As a human institution, the Church is flawed. Nevertheless, Jesus has promised, “you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.” (Mt. 16: 18-19) Jesus points to a fundamental element of the human family. We need each other, and especially when it comes to our relationship with God. In the you never hear the Lord declaring you will be my person and I will be your God. It is always “You will be my people and I will be your God.” From the very earliest moments of our relationship with God we are called to gather for worship. Coming together is of fundamental importance; it is the means by which God is made most present to the faithful. To truly receive God we gather in his Body, the Church. To receive him most intimately is to celebrate the Eucharistic Sacrifice receiving not only His Word but, His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity—we sit at the table of the Lord with his disciples as they celebrate the last supper. To miss our family meal is to miss “God with us” Emanuel. You must have a community, a gathering together of believers to have the , to have the church and to be with God and his whole family. YES GATHERING IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL TO OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

A MERRY CHRISTMAS — THANK YOU!

The parishioners at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton are truly a blessing in our lives. The thoughtful Masses, and gifts we both received through the Christmas Season from so many of you is God’s grace showing your love to us. Thank you so much! May God continue to shower you with His many blessings for a happy and healthy 2020. Deacon Greg & Karen Formanczyk

JOIN US FOR AN 8 WEEK BIBLE STUDY ON THE BOOK OF ROMANS: THE GOSPEL OF SALVATION

DISCOVER WHAT IT MEANS TO "BE SAVED"

Paul’s letter to the Romans has been at the center of reflection, conversion, and controversy from the very beginning. In Romans: The Gospel of Salvation, theology professor Dr. Andrew Swafford and Jeff Cavins provide an authentically Catholic, comprehensive, and simple way to understand the overarching theme of Romans - salvation. Above all, it will help you enter into a more meaningful relationship with Christ. Dr. Swafford and Cavins provide historical context, highlight the connections to Jesus and Christianity that Paul makes with the Old Testament, and explore the ways in which Jesus is the fulfillment of Israel’s prophecies, which leads to the universal, “Catholic” family of God. Each week's lesson includes a reading from the Book of Romans, study questions, a small group discussion and a 30 minute video lecture. Study Materials: Bring your Bible (one will be provided for use in class if you don’t have one). In addition, a workbook will be used from Ascension Press that includes summaries, lecture notes, questions and answers for each week. Cost: There is no charge to attend. However, a $15 donation is requested for those who can afford it to help offset the cost of the DVD’s and the workbooks. Dates: Tuesday evenings starting January 21st through March 24th, 2020 Times: 7:00 – 8:30 pm Location: SEAS Classroom #3/4 To sign up, contact the Parish Office or Rob Pelliccia at 248-828-3539 or [email protected], or sign up with our online registration.
