In past years, Bexley High School has had the pleasure of hosting foreign exchange students from various countries who have come to the "Tack" United States through the American Field Service program. This year Bexley was host to Olle Muhrbeck, a senior, from Stockholm, Sweden. Olle lived with Dr. and Mrs. Jack Silberstein and their son, Bruce, also a senior this year. The American Field Service is an organization which selects students from America and other conti nents and gives them the opportunity to make their homes in foreign lands. Those students coming to America cross the seas by boat or plane and spend three days in New York City at the American Field Service Headquarters. They then are dispersed throughout the country to enter their new homes and communities. At the end of their visits, they are again joined together in small groups to take bus trips. At this time, caravans of three or four buses travel through the United States, allowing the students to see many parts of the country and meet many people from each of its sections. The two week trip is culminated with a visit to Washington, D.C., and a handshake from the President. This year, Olle participated in many school activities. He talked at many of the club meetings about the life and people of his country. These talks gave each Bexley student a better understanding of him self and of other peoples of the world. Certainly, both Olle and the students at Bexley have profited from this experience; it is one that will not be easily forgotten. Last summer, Debby Kayne, a senior at Bexley, had the opportunity to stay with a family in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for three months. She, too, found this a very enriching experience. The American Field Service has offered to these two students, and to all Bexley students, the opportunity to serve as ambassadors for their nation. The benefits of these exchanges are mutual— all people concerned are more aware of the powerful forces striving for better relations between countries, for world friendship, and for world peace.

A.F.S. students point out their homes to Robin and Karen. Bruce and Olle at home.

This group is composed of council officers, defeated candidates for these offices, class officers, president of the Student Health Council, and homeroom representatives. Serving as officers this year were Jim Nowacki, presi dent; Robin Wells, vice-president; and Arloa Shultz, secretary-treasurer. Mr. David Weis served as faculty advisor. Under the able guidance of these people, Student Council enjoyed an active and profit able year. The council activities began during the summer with four successful open houses held in the school parking lot. The council also sponsored the Bexley representative to Buckeye Boys' State. The first major activities of the school year were the homecoming festivities. The election, bonfire, parade, float contest, and homecoming dance were all organized and executed by Student Council. The council once again decorated the halls for Christmas and supervised the collection of Christmas baskets for the South Side Settlement House. The Christ mas season was culminated with the annual New Year's Eve dance held at the Jeffrey Mansion. The second annual Alumni Day was held in early January. Bexley graduates were invited to the school in order to talk with students about their respective schools. Each student had an op portunity to talk with a maximum of three repre sentatives and in this way to obtain a better understanding of college life. This year, the Student Council organized an Alumni Association. By means of this organiza tion, classes will be able to organize periodic reunions. The Student Council and the senior class officers from each class will serve as the nucleus of the association. In addition to their many other activities, Student Council again sponsored an American Field Service Day in order to acquaint students with the AFS program. The council also revised the Lion Life, a booklet published for the purpose of helping students adjust to life at Bexley High. Other activities included the management of the popcorn and apple machines, the cafeteria, the Planning the next Student Council meeting are officers parking lot, and the locker policy. Student Health Council

The Student Health Council of Bexley High School has a two-fold purpose: to inform the students of health problems and to promote good health standards in the school.

Four major projects highlighted the council's activities for the year 1964-65. The United Appeals drive was sponsored by the council this fall at which time contributions were accepted from students I and teachers. The money was used to aid various organizations, including settlement houses and recrea tion centers. The council also collected cards from every student giving emergency information, such as preference of doctor and hospital in the case of sudden illness. Before the Christmas vacation, the council organized a blood donor drive in Bexley to help alleviate serious shortages of blood during the holiday season. Finally, in May, Student Health Council sponsored the annual tuberculin skin test, ad ministered to the Junior Class at Bexley High.

The council is composed of two boys and two girls from each class who are selected in their fresh man year to serve in the organization for four years. This year a Red Cross delegate from Bexley also served on the council as a non-voting member. Council members aid in city-wide blond donor drive. Officers for the year 1964-65 were Paula Young, president; Brent Blackshaw, vice-president; and Carolyn Schneider, secretary-treasurer. Miss Love and Mrs. Manly served as advisors.

National Honor Society March eleventh's National Honor Society assembly honored thirty-three students who had excelled in the areas of character, scholarship, leadership, and service throughout their high school careers. The eleven juniors who were inducted were in the upper sixth of their class, while the twenty seniors all had above three point aver ages. To be chosen a member of National Honor Society is the highest honor Bexley High School can bestow. Sponsor of the society, Mrs. Antoinette Barr, planned the ceremony in conjunction with the eleven seniors who had become members in their junior year. These seniors gave short speeches concerning character, scholarship, leadership, and service as well as the mean ing of the symbol of the organization and the history of the society. The ceremony was concluded with a few words by Mrs. Barr and Mr. Jones, followed by the in Another member of the basketball team, Robin duction of the newly elected members. TORCH

The 1965 TORCH staff added their publication to the long list of outstanding papers by Bexley High School. The TORCH has received the Ail-American rating for eleven out of the past twelve semesters. Heading the staff this year were co-editors Bob Greene and Judy Furman. The staff included Jon Kaplan, page one editor; Marcia Ziskind, page two editor; Marc Gertner, page three editor; Jack Roth, sports; Dianne Kushner, features; Alice Schottenstein, club editor; Stan Cohen, business manager; Maury i Topolosky, circulation manager and Bill Murphey, photographer. Mrs. Sara Amos was advisor for the group. In addition to the publication of the newspaper, two dances were sponsored by the TORCH—one after a football game and the annual Valentine Dance at which the King and Queen of Hearts were crowned. This year the TORCH staff again published the Dial-a-Date, the student telephone directory which is a greatly appreciated convenience for the student body. Finally, the TORCH sponsored the sale of Junior Prom, a new teen-age magazine for the students of Franklin County, published through the cooperation of the Columbus Citizen-Journal.

BEXLEO

The 1964-65 BEXLEO staff endeavored to produce a yearbook in the tradition of past years. Norma Meizlish, editor-in-chief, headed the staff. She was ably assisted by Sandra DeLong, literary editor; Jim Davis, managing editor; Chuck Hoffhine, photography editor; and Pam Nichols, art editor. The rest of the staff included Nancy Schoedinger, senior section; Charla Collier and Sally Shurlow, classes; Jessie Mordoff, faculty and student government; Susan Bryant and Susan Koebel, social; Marilyn Glick and Toby Kahn, club section; Ellen Williams, girls' sports; and Ed Scheiderer and Robin Wells, boys' sports. The theme of the 1965 BEXLEO was based on the spectrum. Bexley High offers students a wealth of opportunity, and, in a sense, the school is a prism through which students' activities are directed and diversified. The theme was evident throughout the book, on the cover designed by Pam Nichols, and on the divider pages. Besides publishing the yearbook, the staff managed the concessions for the homecoming football game against Urbana, from which the proceeds were used to purchase a new camera. Mrs. Marilyn D. Trishman served as the advisor for the BEXLEO staff this year. Her patience and guidance was greatly appreciated.

Y-Teens Teaching its members the meaning of world fellowship is the main purpose of Y-Teens. The club advocates the personal growth of its members, the growth of the brotherhood of mankind, and the growth of love and knowledge of God. Y-Teens "In the Comic Strips" rush party at Jeffrey Mansion opened a successful year for the or ganization. At the party, the cabinet was introduced in a skit which portrayed comic strip characters. Two city-wide fund raising projects were held during the year. The first was the annual Hoote nanny at Veterans Memorial on January 30. The Four Dimensions represented Bexley. Money from this event went to the Interclub Council World Fellowship Committee. The second project took place on March 27 and on April 3, when members sold donuts. Other activities at the Y.W.C.A. included the Fall Roll Call Rally, the Public Affairs Conference on "Sex and Morality," and the annual leadership conference. Among the activities which the Y-Teens at Bexley sponsored was the Thanksgiving Assembly planned by the Worship Committee. Y-Teens also held two dances: Ugly Man's on February 27, and the Sadie Hawkins Dance on April 24, at Mulbarger's farm. Other social events included "Around the World In 80 Dishes," a Mothers' Day Tea at which the new officers were inducted, the Senior Farewell hon oring graduating members, and the annual overnight at the South Side Y Camp in May.

Dressed accordingly, the girls enjoyed a picnic dinner at Jeffrey Mansion. At GAC's annual Hockey Night, the Juniors were victorious after a close game against the Seniors. To help celebrate the Christmas season and as a fund raising project, a successful bake sale was held. A rummage sale and a paper drive were two other major fund raising projects that GAC undertook this year. The Junior Class once more proved their athletic ability by winning the Basketball Class Night. Again it was an exciting game with the Juniors beating the Seniors by one point in the overtime. Following the game, Kathy Bellingham was crowned 1965 Sports Queen by basketball captain Bill Salt. This year GAC held a volleyball invitational. Various schools in the Columbus area were invited to Bexley to compete in the tournaments. The Girls Athletic Club is in charge of all intramural sports activities at Bexley. Homeroom volley ball and girls and boys basketball teams vied for the school championships under the direction of Kathy Bellingham, intramural manager. In April a fine synchronized swimming show was presented. As in the past, the GAC Banquet in May ended the year's program. The old officers completed their term of office, and new ones were installed. This year's officers were Joyce Knupke, president; Carolyn Schneider, vice-president; Kathy Lackritz, secretary; Cathy Malloy, treasurer; and Kathy Bellingham, intramural manager. Pep Club The Pep Club of 1964-65 worked diligently to create and promote school spirit. Committees headed by cabinet members of the club were established to make posters, locker tags, and banners in honor of the participants in the various sports. With the aid of Mr. Frank Loehnert, Jr., Pep Club initiated the sale of basketball programs in order to serve the school. In future years, the club plans to enlarge and improve upon this worthwhile project. Other undertakings of the club included aiding the cheerleaders with pep rallies, teaching new cheers to club members, and in general encouraging student participa tion and attendance at sports events. Pep Club was under the leadership of Patricia Buker, president; Peggy Hoyer, vice-president; and Sandy Erkis, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Rogers served as club advisor.

Hi-Y Hi-Y, under the leadership of president Ed Scheiderer, participated in many activities both within and outside of Bexley High School. Ed was supported enthusiastically by the members of the Club and by his fellow officers—John Stroefer, vice-president; Dan Sharky, secretary-treasurer; and Chuck Hoff hine, chaplain. The Bexley chapter of Hi-Y was particularly active this year in the affairs of the city and state Hi-Y organizations. The members participated in the state-wide Hi-Y Youth in Government Day, in the city-wide Hi-Y City Government Day in Columbus, and in other Columbus metropolitan Hi-Y activities. The Bexley club also sponsored athletic teams in basketball and volleyball to participate in the Colum bus Hi-Y League. As a service project the members of Hi-Y held a World Service candy sale to raise money for Y.M.C.A. work abroad. The two final events of the year were the Hi-Y, Faculty and the Hi-Y - Y-Teens basketball games, both of which provided much entertainment for the student body. BAA officers: Bill Callif, David Dachner, John Forman, BAA members participate in intramural basketball. Phil Durschnitt. Boys' Athletic Association The Boys' Athletic Association, a relatively new organization at Bexley, successfully sponsored many new activities during the year. All boys were encouraged to join; however, the club was organ ized primarily to provide competitive sports activity for those boys not involved in varsity sports. In order to do this, intramural sports with two sportsheads for each sport were organized, and tourna ments were held throughout the year. The sports included were touch football, basketball, baseball, table tennis, badminton, and tennis. BAA joined with GAC to sponsor a volleyball tournament, as well as a mixed doubles table tennis tournament. The winning volleyball team competed with four teams from different schools on Volleyball Day in April. Another main event for BAA was the participation in the Invitational Bowling Tournament, in which Bexley competed with other schools in the area. Finally, BAA sponsored a foul-shooting tournament for boys during the noon hour. Hopefully this is to become an annual event. Club officers were Phil Durschnitt, president; Bill Callif, vice-president; John Forman, secretary; and David Dachner, treasurer.

Varsity B Varsity B The Varsity B Club, composed of Bexley athletes who have won letters in varsity sports, is primarily a recognition organization and sponsors no regular club functions during the year. Athletes are auto matically inducted into the club as soon as they have won a varsity letter. The varsity sports at Bexley included football, basketball, swimming, wrestling, track, baseball, tennis, and golf. The sign of a mem ber of the Varsity B Club is the large "B" which appears on either the letter jacket or the letter sweater of the Lion athletes. Second year members are awarded with belt buckles, and third year members receive trophies. Membership in the club serves as an incentive for Bexley athletes to improve their skill and sports manship.

Page Seventy-nine Le Cercle Francais enjoys another party. French Club officers: Bruce Silberstein, N Zipser Ellen Williams, Debby Talis. I French Club Le Cercle Francais began a most successful year with a rush party at Jeffrey Mansion. More than sixty enthusiastic French students took sack dinners to the party and later participated in a French version of the American game of Bingo. Throughout the remainder of the year, the club provided many educational and interesting programs for its members. At one meeting, Olle Muhrbeck, Bexley's Ameri can Field Service student from Sweden, spoke about his country and answered questions posed by club members. Another especially interesting meeting was that held with the Spanish Club during which slides were shown of both Mexico and Paris. Officers of Le Cercle Frangais this year were Ellen Williams, president; Nancy Zipser, vice-presi dent; Debby Talis, secretary-treasurer; Bruce Silberstein, program chairman; and Mrs. Mead and Mr. Munselle, advisors.

Latin Club induction of new members. Latin Club officers: Dianne Loehnert, Fritz Laird, Hannah Frankel, Sharon Pree. Latin Club The initiation service in February of first-year Latin students marked the beginning of Latin Club's agenda for the year. Students who joined the club had all maintained an "A" average during their first semester of Latin. In March, members of Latin Club joined other Latin students from Columbus schools for a banquet held at the Youth Center on the fairgrounds. The annual J.C.L. Convention was held on March 26 at the Ohio State University. Bexley's participants were invited to give an original skit, "All Roads Lead From Rome." This skit had been awarded first place winner by the Classical Department of the Ohio State University. The annual Latin Club banquet in May concluded the events for the year. Officers for the club of 1964-65 were Hannah Frankel, president; Dianne Loehnert, vice-president; Sharon Pree, secretary; and Fritz Laird, treasurer. The club advisor was Miss Wylie. Page Eighty Spanish Club officers: Ron Grove, vice president; Doug Smith and John Hagler having fun at Spanish Club's Nancy Kelley, secretary; Linda Ahrens, president; "Pinata Party." Spanish Club Spanish Club opened the year with its annual rush party in September, held at Jeffrey Mansion. The next major event on the club's calendar was the "Pinata" party in December, at which time the mem bers attempted to break open the paper mache pinata. The purpose of the party was to promote a better understanding of the culture and customs of the Spanish-speaking countries, as well as to have fun. At the beginning of the new year, Spanish Club sponsored a dance, which served as the club's fund-raising project. Later during the year a joint meeting was held with French Club, and a bake sale was sponsored for which members were asked to donate home baked goods. Finally, the new officers of the club were recognized at the Spanish Club banquet in May. Leading the club this year were Linda Ahrens, president; Ron Grove, vice-president; Nancy Kelley, secretary; Eric Ault, treasurer; and Mr. L. Smith, advisor.

Future Teachers of America The Future Teachers of America Association engaged in numerous activities throughout the 1964-65 year. The members profited greatly from the speeches and advice of guest speakers concerning the differ ent levels of education. The members gained further experience by observing classes and by aiding teach ers in the elementary and junior high schools. The club sponsored a successful dance, "The Turkey Trot," after the first home basketball game, and it also introduced a new service to Bexley High School—the student paperback bookstore. This book gallery proved to be a most worthwhile project since it not only greatly aided the student body but it also augmented the treasury of F.T.A. The year was ended with the traditional Teachers' Tea in May, at which the new officers of the club were inducted. F.T.A. was led this year by Sandra DeLong, president; Mimi Deaton, vice-president; Jean Grevenow, treasurer; Beverly Slatzer, secretary; and Mrs. Sanders, advisor. Later in the year, another guest speaker, Wayne Byers, newscaster for WBNS, presented interesting insights into the production of television programs. At other meetings, movies or programs were focused on lighting, directing, and other phases of theatre production. Some improvisional work was also done by members of the club. As a community service, members worked twice a month at Children's Hospital reading stories and performing skits for the patients. In April, Dramatics Club presented its production of George Washington Slept Here, starring Bill Cohen and Sharon Smith. Much work and effort went into this project to make it an excellent perform ance. A second highlight of the year was a joint meeting with Dramatics Club members of Worthington, Upper Arlington, and Eastmoor. The season terminated with a banquet and induction of new mem bers into the National Thespian Society.

Music Club officers: Betsy Frampton, Sylvia Dozer, George Beverly entertains at a Music Club mi Janet McCleary. Music Club Music Club meetings proved to be interesting and entertaining. Some of the special programs for the meetings included a male folk trio from Upper Arlington, "The Travelers"; a piano concert by George Beverly; a vocal ensemble from the Columbus School for Girls; and a demonstration by the Bell Choir of the First Congregational Church. During the Christmas holiday season, members of Music Club participated in Kinder Key Caroling. They continued to spread the holiday spirit by having a party for the orphans of the Hannah Neil Mis sion. The Club sponsored a successful dance, "The Basket Ball," after the last home game of the basket ball season; and finally, in the spring, Music Club held a hootenanny-picnic. Leaders of the club for the year were Sylvia Dozer, president; Janet McCleary, vice-president; Betsy Frampton, secretary-treasurer; and Mr. Myers, advisor. Page Eighty-two Art Club officers: Sue Brock, Pam Nichols, Dave Cooke Sue and George apply their talents. Art Club Art Club began a successful year when commercial artist, Jack Haunty, came to Bexley to talk to members about art in advertising. Throughout the rest of the year the club went on various field trips, including a visit to the Columbus Art Gallery to see the Jean Grotte exhibition, and a visit to the Bexley Art Guild's third annual exhibition. At one of the meetings, Mr. Trivella, Art Club advisor, showed slides of Scandinavia. Members refinished picture frames and had their own art exhibit. In order to raise money, Bexley pennants were sold, and a successful "Winter Wonderland" dance was held after a basketball game. Art Club served other school projects through its work on the scenery for the Band Parents' Show, and the set for George Washington Slept Here. Finally, as a completely new project, the club displayed nine different paintings in the lounge in order to encourage art appreciation among students.

Interested members of History Club pose with their advisor, Mr. Poetker. History Club Organized by Mr. Poetker the second semester, History Club is geared to the above average World History or American Civilization student. The members attempted to acquaint themselves with various interpretations of significant aspects of American history. Meetings were held once a month, during which students discussed the views presented by the particular historians they had read. Led by co- chairmen Mark Bookspan and Norma Meizlish, these discussions served both to supplement the mem bers' knowledge of history and to expose them to the type of seminar approach used in many college history classes. Science Club The purpose of Science Club is to encourage and develop an interest and appreciation of the sciences among Bexley students. The major event for this year's club was the Annual Science Exhibit held on March eleventh. The students displayed science projects, which were given ratings by qualified judges. The club also spon sored two speakers, Prof. Ralph Bond and Colonel Jack Nole, who spoke respectively on geology and aerodynamics. Through such educational programs, as movies and field trips, the club members enjoyed both a learning and a social experience. Finally, on January 29, the club sponsored an "Inner Exten sions" dance in order to raise money for the year. Leading the club this year were Judy Hagler, president; Mike Halpern, vice-president; Kurt Krauss, secretary; and Jeff Schuster, treasurer. Mr. West served as advisor for the club this year.

The 1964-65 debate team had as its captain Rob Solomon, and as its coach, James Eliopolus. The team finished the past season with an overall record of nineteen wins and eleven losses. The negative component of the team, Rob Solomon and Mike Halpern, won thirteen of its fifteen debates. Junior Linda Schneider and senior Bob Schwartz, debating for the affirmative, won six of their fifteen contests. The Bexley debaters participated in tournaments at Columbus Central, Grove City, Worthing ton, and Columbus School for Girls. They also were hosts for a tournament at Bexley. At Grove City, the debaters won the first place trophy with a record of six wins and no losses. The team placed second at the Bexley tournament with a record of four wins and two defeats. The topic discussed by the debat ers this year was "Resolved: Nuclear Weapons Should Be Controlled By An International Organization." Under the direction of C. Robert Myers, Bexley's Senior Cho performed a full schedule of concerts during the academic year. At the annual Parents' Night, parents of choir members viewe demonstrations of the warm-up techniques and the methods b which music is learned in regular rehearsals. As in past years, the choir participated in the Thanksgiving Assembly. Numerous engagements were filled during the Christmai season. The ensembles entertained at the Hannah Neil Mission and for the Bexley Women's Club. The full choir presented four con certs at Columbus Country Club as well as at the traditional Christmas Concert for the student body. For the band, the year began in late summer with practices for its performances at the half-times of the football games. Following the long football season, the band was transformed into a concert group. On December 20, it performed at the Christmas Concert during which a variety of traditional Christ mas songs, from religious to light music, was presented. On February 12 and 13, the band presented the annual Band Parents' Show throughout which a stage band provided background music. During the month of March, the band and its members performed often. On March 6, Bexley band students entered and received recognition in the district contest. On March 10, the entire band played a short concert for the combined meeting of the Bexley City Teachers Association and the Franklin County Education Association; and on March 12, the annual Spring Concert was held. At the end of the year, the band toured the Bexley elementary schools in order to demonstrate the various instruments and to give short concerts. A final performance was given at the annual Arts Festival at which the band, choir, and visual arts department were honored. The Band banquet, given annually by the Band Parents in recognition of the band members, was held in April. FOOTBALL Guided by the enthusiasm of Captain Jim Nowacki and the coaching staff under Donald DeJong, the *: Bexley Fighting Lions of 1964 worked hard to produce fine efforts when they were seemingly out- manned. Especially in the Mt. Vernon, Whitehall, and Arlington games, the Lions displayed spirit and performed well. The first two games were dropped to Logan and Gahanna by scores of 34-0 and 32-15 respectively. Bexley fought stubbornly against Whitehall but lost in the final seconds, 7-0. After bowing to Worth ington, 34-0 and to Mt. Vernon, 30-7, the Lions came back to win the Homecoming game against Urbana, 13-6. Bexley lost two hard-fought games to Delaware, 6-0, and to Grandview, 22-8. Against Arlington, in the final game of the season, the fighting Lions scored 19 points, but were beaten 48-19. Gary Herwald was selected for the all-CBL first team, while David Herwald and Jim Nowacki received honorable mentions. Gary also received the Fred Medors Award. Jim Nowacki, Gary and Dave Herwald, and Joel Kaufher earned membership in the Shoulderpad Club. Next year's fighting Lions will be captained by Woody Jones and Dave Herwald. The Lions will play in a new league in the 1966 football season and, with renewed spirit and enthu siasm will attempt to bring winning seasons back to Bexley.

Basketball The 1964-65 basketball season opened with a thriller against Gahanna, in which the Lions emerged victorious, 55-54. From that point, the Bexley cagers faced stronger opposition as Grove City and Urbana visited the Lions' den in the two following weeks. The Lions recorded their next victory at Whitehall with evenly distributed scoring and overall good defense. Worthington and Mt. Vernon proved to be stubborn opponents, and the Lions lost both by narrow margins. The Bexley cagers then avenged an earlier loss to Grandview by defeating the Bobcats, 52-51. After a bad night at Arlington, the Lions came on strong to outplay and outscore Worthington. Bexley then topped Mt. Vernon and went into the tournament with 7-10 record and momentum from victories in the last two games. The Lions' spirit and enthusiasm showed up at the end of the season and the last four victories made the season a success. The final 9-11 record is the best at Bexley for many years of basketball, and Coach Millard's cagers of the next year intend to enlarge the win column even mo:e. This year's most improved player award went to Dave Frasch, while Capt. Bill Salt and Rob Wells received jointly the most valuable player award. Pat Lemmon and Mac McCloy were selected as co- captains for next year. Bill Salt was chosen to the All-CBL second team and also received honorable men tion in the district. Mac Albin, Dave Frasch, and Rob Wells received honorable mention in the CBL. Rec ords were set or tied for season high rebounding, single game high rebounding, and single game high scoring by Bill Salt, Mac Albin, and Rob Wells, respectively.

This year's squad, led by co-captains Dan Vogel and Ed Scheiderer, also included returning let termen Mac Albin, Rick Weber, Paul Davis, Greg Van Woert, and A. J. Myers. In addition, the squad had many other top prospects to fill vacancies in the dashes, field events, and hurdles. The cindermen started their season with victories of 67-51 over Reynoldsburg and 92-26 over Grand- view before they lost a close meet at Walnut Ridge. However, the Lions came back to defeat Hartley 711/2-46V/2. Bexley's squad showed their strength by defeating several other schools which had their best track squads in several years. ) Despite the early successes of the season, the thinclads found strong competition in the White I hall and Arlington relays and the CBL meet. The team was gaining the experience necessary to im prove upon the highly successful 1964 track season. Already strong were returning lettermen in the dis tance races, 440 yard dash, broad jump, and mile relay.

Baseball Coach Perry Smith inaugurated his first year as the baseball coach with an exhibition victory over Watkins Memorial. The only other opponent prior to spring vacation was Lancaster. Bexley then played Academy and was defeated by the slim margin of 9-8, allowing the Vikings only three hits. The team this year was young but displayed much poise, baseball know-how, and desire to win. Freshmen Jim Moriarty and Steve Wyman snowed much promise, and sophomores Steve Stout and Carl Heinke proved to be valuable assets to the team. Juniors Charlie Burkam, Wayne Smith, Jay Worly, Cam Orr, Larry Snyder, Sonny Dargusch, and Woody Jones provided hitting strength and filled fielding positions well. Seniors Tim Greiner, Geoff Gold, and Bill Meeks completed the nucleus of the team. The baseball team displayed much potential and under the fine direction of Coach Smith should be able to become a winning team in the next season.
