Cowboys, Packers Tied for America’s Favorite NFL Team
Raleigh, N.C. – America’s favorite NFL team is a tie between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers, a new national survey from Public Policy Polling finds. 12% each choose Dallas and Green Bay from a list of nine teams, while 10% each choose the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos, 8% choose the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, 5% choose the New Orleans Saints, and 4% the Washington Redskins. 25% root for someone else or aren’t sure. Green Bay is down from their high of 22% in last year’s survey, suggesting their Super Bowl win bounce has dissipated.
The Dallas Cowboys are once again America’s most hated NFL squad – 18% choose them as least favorite, 11% choose the Bears, 10% the Patriots, 8% the Broncos, 7% the Steelers, 5% the Redskins, and 4% each the Packers, Giants and Saints. 29% say some other team is their least favorite or they aren’t sure. In PPP’s survey one year ago Dallas also topped the “least favorite” list with 22%.
Pitted head-to-head against each other, 50% of respondents say they like the Packers more than the Cowboys, while just 27% choose Dallas and 23% aren’t sure. Indeed, Dallas has a net negative (32-37) favorability rating while Green Bay’s is much more positive (55-15).
The Manning Brothers come out on top as America’s favorite NFL quarterbacks, with 17% choosing reigning Super Bowl champ Eli Manning and 16% choosing his brother Peyton. Tim Tebow (14% despite not starting a game this year), Tom Brady (10%) and Aaron Rodgers (10%) also receive double-digit support. Drew Brees gets 9%, Ben Roethlisberger 5%, Michael Vick 4%, and Tony Romo 3% while 12% say some other QB is their favorite or they aren’t sure.
Despite his injuries this year, Michael Vick shows no signs of getting back into many fan’s good graces – 27% named him as their least favorite QB. Ben Roethlisberger receives 15% of the “least favorite” vote, with Tom Brady, Eli Manning and Tony Romo each getting 8%, Tony Romo 7%. Brees (3%), Rodgers (3%) and Peyton Manning (2%) receive very few least favorite votes while 19% say someone else or they aren’t sure.
PPP surveyed 700 voters from November 30th- December 2nd. The margin of error for the survey is +/- 3.7 percentage points. This poll was not paid for or authorized by any campaign or political organization. PPP surveys are conducted through automated telephone interviews.
