An- nette lost her first round match putting her in the consolation tournament. Miss Barsness won her next three matches against girls from St. Cloud, Carleton and St. Olaf. Karen Adkins, another player from Carleton, was her opponent in the finals. Annette won, 6-2 and 6-4 for the championship of the consolations. Ellayne Stevens, a Cobber freshman, tied for fifth place in the singles tournament. She survived her first two matches to gain a berth in the quarter finals. She beat St. Olafs No. 1 player, 6-0, 4-6 and 7-5; and Minnesota's No. 2 player, 7-5 and 7-5. She lost to Macalester's No. 1 player, 6-0 and 6-2. First round losses from Concordia included the doubles team, Deanna Olson and Sally Mjolsness, and singles player, Elsa Chris- tiansen. Deanna and Sally lost a hard fought match to a Carleton team 6-4, and Elsa lost to one of the top seeded players from the University of Minnesota. Ten colleges from Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin participated in the two day tournament. There were 16 doubles teams and 32 singles participating in the tournament.
