Dear Parent/Carer

Success at Lamphey Primary School I would like to congratulate the swimming squad members who represented Pembrokeshire at the National Urdd Swimming Gala finals. The lower junior girls’ relay team did incredibly well coming 7th in , first in their heat and taking 20 seconds off their PB. The team consisted of Erin, Emily, Freya and Seren.

The Upper junior girls’ relay team represented Pembrokeshire in both the Freestyle relay and Medley relay competitions. The team came 8th in Wales in the Freestyle relay, winning their heat and, again, getting a new PB. The girls then came 10th in Wales in the Medley relay, coming 3rd in their heat. The team consisted on Aria, Amelie, Rosie and Lily.

The Lamphey Lego Lions competed in a robotic Lego challenge against other Primary Schools and Secondary Schools. This was held at Ysgol Harri Tudur. The children worked incredibly well as a team undertaking many difficult and challenging activities which included presentations, discussions, 3-D modelling and robotics. Until the last round they were in the lead, however they were finally defeated by Ysgol Bro Gwaun (secondary school), who will now represent Pembrokeshire in Bristol. The team consisted of Charlie, Warren, Lewis, Tom, Claudia, Anna, Leah, Alex, Sophia, Ciara and Izabella.

I would personally like to thank Mrs R Williams and Mrs M Thomas who gave up their time at the weekend to ensure that children had these marvellous opportunities.

Safer Routes in the Community As I am sure you are aware the Safer Routes in the Community Programme has commenced within the village of Lamphey. It is expected that work around the school will begin very shortly. I have been asked by Pembrokeshire County Council to inform all parents of the school that they should make every effort to park at the Village Hall and walk the children to and from school as they need to upgrade the crossing table, which is located immediately outside the school. Due to this work there will be very restricted parking in the vicinity of the school site. A parking warden is expected to visit the school site on a regular basis and will take appropriate action against offending motorists. Many thanks for your understanding whilst this work takes place.

Headlice We have had a report of headlice in the school. Please could you ensure that you regularly check your children and treat where necessary. Please seek advice from your pharmacist regarding this matter.

Attendance Pupils are expected to be present in school regularly. If your child is unable to attend school you must email the school ([email protected]) or use the facility on the school app before 9.30am on the first day of absence. If you are unable to email please telephone. If you have not contacted the school we will phone you to establish the whereabouts of your child. A note explaining the absence must be brought with your child when they return to school. If your child is late arriving and the registers have closed they will be marked as absent for that session. Pupils should not miss school for unacceptable reasons e.g. shopping, birthdays. If your child is either later than 9.30am coming into school or being collected early please ensure that the ‘signing in’ book, located at the School Office, is completed for health and safety reasons.

If you have any suggestions on how the attendance of pupils in the school can be improved please contact the school so this can be discussed with the Governing Body as this is a priority area for the school.

Parents’ Evenings We would like to invite you to attend a parents’ evening to discuss your child’s progress. These will be held during the week commencing on 2nd March 2020. Appointment sheets will be in the foyer from Monday 24th February 2020.
