State epidemiologist Anders Tegnell does not believe in a "second wave" of the spread of Covid-19 infection after the summer holidays. He also does not believe that people on holiday risk taking the infection back to Sweden in the same way as when the pandemic broke out. “So, the risk that we would get a scenario that we had after the holiday in February when many were out and became infected, it no longer exists,” he says to TT. At Thursday's press conference July 30, 2020, WHO chief Ghebreyesus said that it is a challenge to get younger people who do not belong to risk groups to understand the risks of covid-19. “Young people who do not follow the guidelines for reducing the spread of infection is one of the reasons why some countries see an increased spread of infection,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

“Young people are not invincible. Young people can be infected. Young people can die. And young people can pass the virus on to others,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus continues. WHO epidemiologist said during the press conference that countries' reactions to covid-19 were mixed on a global level, but that nations with previous experience of infectious diseases acted more quickly on the spread of infection. The World Health Organization (WHO) also warned on Saturday that the corona pandemic is likely to be "long-lasting". The statement came after the organization's crisis committee held its fourth meeting since the original virus outbreak in January. "The Committee highlighted the expected long duration of this covid-19 pandemic and stressed the importance of sustained action. The WHO continues to assess that the global risk posed by covid-19 is very high," the statement said. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also said at a press conference on Friday that the corona pandemic has led to a health crisis that only occurs once every hundred years: “The pandemic is such a health crisis that occurs once a century, the effects of which will be felt for decades to come.” Vaccine development is progressing rapidly, but the world must still learn to live with the virus, he pointed out. “Many countries that thought they were past the worst are now struggling with new outbreaks. Some who were less affected in the earliest weeks now see an increasing number of cases and deaths. And some who had major outbreaks have got them under control,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “Even if vaccine development takes place at record speed, we must learn to live with this virus and we must fight it with the tools we have,” he continues.
