Workshop Description

This is a not-to-be-missed 2 day workshop led by internationally renowned writer and speaker, Dr. Les Greenberg, who has been a key contributor in the field of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). Developed for therapists who work with individuals and couples or for students training to be therapists, this workshop will help you learn how to apply his highly effective therapy approach to strengthen couple relationships. This workshop will present new developments in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy for dealing with affect regulation. A major role of marriage and intimate relationships is to help partners regulate their attachment and identity-related .

In this workshop we will discuss and view tapes of how to work with the emotions related to attachment as well as to power and identity. We will also look at how to transform vicious cycles into virtuous ones, as well as changing emotions with emotion. Dr. Greenberg will present an expanded five-stage fourteen-step process that includes a focus on attachment and identity as well as self–soothing and other-soothing. In addition we will look at the process of resolving emotional injuries, a particular kind of interpersonal rupture that occurs when trust is violated and a person feels betrayed, on both the attachment and identity dimensions. The emotional process in forgiveness and the latter’s role in overcoming injuries will be discussed. A 13-hour continuing education credits certificate will be issued to all participants who complete the 2 day workshop.

This workshop is designed to help you:

1. Understand the phenomenon of marital distress in the context of emotion and its role in intimacy and attachment as well as influence and identity. 2. Learn to differentiate between adaptive attachment and identity oriented emotions and negative emotional reactions. 3. Learn steps to promote forgiveness or letting go and reconciliation. 4. Deal with issues related to rebuilding trust. 5. Foster a more secure emotional bond between partners.

About the Instructor:

Leslie Greenberg, Ph.D. Dr. Greenberg is Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus of at in Toronto, Ontario. He has authored the major texts on Emotion-focused approaches to treatment of individuals and couples. These include Emotion in (1986), Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (1988) and more recently, Emotion-focused Couples Therapy: The dynamics of emotion, love and power (2008). Emotion-focused therapy: Theory and practice (2010) , and Working with Narrative in Emotion- focused Therapy: Changing Stories, Healing Lives . (2011). He has published extensively on research on the process of change. He has received the Distinguished Research Career award of the International Society for Psychotherapy Research as well as the and the Distinguished Professional Contribution to Applied Research of the American Psychology . He also has received the Canadian Psychological Association Professional Award for Distinguished Contribution to Psychology as a Profession. He conducts a private practice for individuals and couples and trains people in emotion– focused approaches.

Cancellation Policy:

Registration fees will be refunded in full minus a $50 administration charge up until February 28, 2013. After that time, 50% of the fees will be refunded up until 2 weeks prior to the workshop (March 29. 2013). There will be no refunds after March 29, 2013. Should you be unable to attend, workshop fees are transferable to allow someone else to attend in your place.
