Twenty Ninth Sunday of Ordinary Time ! ! St. Luke’s account of Our Lord’s Parable of the widow and the judge should be read, like the whole of his Gospel, in light of the way Luke introduces his Gospel with stories of Zachariah and Elizabeth, Mary and Joseph. The month of October; like May, is a time when the Church honors Mary, the Mother of . But, were it not for this Gospel writer named Luke, we would have little to tell about Mary. Luke, building on all the Scripture stories of miraculous births, finds in Mary someone who gathers up the generations of waiting, all the beauty of pregnancy, all its patience and impatience. Luke pours all of the tension of the waiting ages into a Canticle of Mary we have come to know as the Magnificat. When her cousin Elizabeth greets Mary, Mary’s response is a vibrant song praising God, who is lifting up the lowly. As we reflect on one stanza of this song, we can’t help thinking about the widow and the judge in our Gospel today: ! God has shown the strength of his arm, ! He has scattered the proud in their conceit. ! He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, ! and has lifted the lowly. ! He has filled the hungry with good things, ! and the rich he has sent away empty. ! ! Mary is giving God thanks most especially for the death into which we have been baptized; the death and the raising up of Jesus. Here for us is the injustice of our world judged and the pledge given, to sing what Mary sang; to demand what the widow demanded and to do it persistently until justice is done for all! ! ! God Bless, ! Fr. Mike !

Faith Formation ! As soon as my 2 year old daughter wakes up she begins asking for breakfast, and she always asks for her favorite things such as baked oatmeal. She won’t stop asking until she gets her breakfast. My wife and I are always responding with, “we hear you”, “be patient”, etc. Children nag because it works. Parents, like the judge in the parable, often get worn down by the persistence of their children asking for things large and small. Nagging is not a positive trait, to be sure. The confidence and the persistence behind this behavior, however, confidence in the goodness of the giver and the tenacity to stay in the relationship, are traits worth emulating in our relationship with God. As a family talk about appropriate ways to make needs and desires known to one another and to God in prayer. Remember that God wants to answer our prayers. As a family, offer your needs as prayers of petition to God. Keep praying until God answers your prayers. Never give up on God, because God never gives up on you. In the Peace of Christ, Mr. Carlo Stebbings !

To the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary ! Queen of the most holy Rosary, in these times of such brazen impiety, manifest thy power with the signs of thine ancient victories, and from thy throne, whence thou dost dispense pardon and graces, mercifully regard the Church of thy Son, His Vicar on earth, and every order of clergy and laity, who are sore oppressed in the mighty conflict. Do thou, who art the powerful vanquisher of all heresies, hasten the hour of mercy, even though the hour of God's justice is every day provoked by the countless sins of men. For me who am the least of men, kneeling before thee in supplication, do thou obtain the grace I need to live righteously upon earth and to reign among the just in heaven, the while in company with all faithful Christians throughout the world, I salute thee and acclaim thee as Queen of the most holy Rosary. !
