Season 2012 Annual Report Page 7

Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated

Executive Report (Secretary)

It is true that the season 2012, our 80th year of operation, was a successful but indeed a difficult one. I am pleased to report that even as we go to press a review of our operations is in place and I have no doubt that we will be moving in a very positive way to improve our current operating procedures. We as an organization need to embrace new directions and open up better opportunities for our registered players during the 2013 season.

The quality of play was exceptional in all grades and club coaches can feel very proud in relation to their club and end of season achievements.

It is always difficult to single out specific outstanding achievements and the 2012 season was no different. In relation to the A Grade Grand Final records now show that a very strong team from Asquith defeated our very powerful Narrabeen side. The quality of play was outstanding by both sides. I congratulate the winning side as they have been very good supporters of our competition over a number of years. The Grand Final crowd was very large and enthusiastic and behaviour for the whole game was excellent.

I would like to thank both the Sea Eagles Management and Warringah Council for ensuring that all division one grand finals were held at Brookvale Oval. We have a very good working relationship with the Sea Eagles and Warringah, Manly and Pittwater Councils.

When you review games played it is very pleasing to record that the small and very well run Beacon Hill club registered 3 well deserved Gold Medals as they won the U8years, U9years and U12years all in division 1 competitions. The most important points in all of this are the quality of coaching and from the crowd’s point of view the excitement of the games.

The quiet achievers, Cromer Club, can also be proud as they recorded very good wins in the U8/2s and U9/2s and were runners up in the U10/1s, U14/1s, U11/2s and U14/2s. It is pleasing to note that Cromer club’s coaching skills are second to none and the results are an acknowledgement of their training skills.

Narrabeen, Avalon, Harbord United, North Curl Curl and Narrabeen were successful in winning 2 Grand Finals.

Special thanks go to our team of organizers, in particular Kim Hunter and John Fox for their commitment in relation to competition draws and to all Ground Managers who are

Season 2012 Annual Report Page 8

Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated responsible for ensuring that games proceed in accordance with our rules and regulations.

Thanks also go to Coralie and Jacky for recording results on the website and to Danielle and Jacky for organizing the Grand Final function. In addition Danielle organized Ground Managers courses for all clubs. Thanks go to Frank Cridland and Judiciary members as they sorted out game day problems.

I acknowledge the work of the Treasurer Mick Covey in monitoring the finances in these difficult times and in addition his dedication as Chairman of the A Grade Committee is to be commended. Thank you to all the referees for their patience and commitment during the whole season

Finally, much of the success of our competitions can be attributed to all the voluntary workers at club level. I do ask that you all to continue working together in 2013 to build on the excellent record achieved this season

It is also very pleasing to place on record that our successful operating record can be attributed to the quality support we enjoy on a year to year basis from District Club under the leadership of Bob Reilly, The Sea Eagles and the Leagues Club. Without this support the standards we set and operate under would not be achievable. When we talk Sea Eagles there is a quality of support that is the envy of all other JRLs. Our survival over many years, from a financial point of view, is attributed to the Leagues Club and our thanks go to their Chairman David Costello and this team.

It is with regret that I record the receipt of the resignation of our President, Eric Galloway, who over the years has made a significant contribution to the JRL, more recently his initiative to introduce qualified Ground Managers and that the JRL made it mandatory that no game can commence without a Ground Manager. He has been involved in JRL for, in excess, of 30 years and his knowledge and experience will be missed.

Thank you for a great year and I hope that we can keep working together in 2013 to build a more efficient operation.

Competition Director’s Report

There were 162 local Manly Warringah teams registered in 2012, down from 164 teams in 2011 in addition 18 North Sydney teams, down from 26 teams in 2011, played in joint competitions.

Our Mini and Mod league Competitions continue to be strong in numbers with 54 Mini League and 59 Mod league teams in 2012.

There continues to be considerable talent in our Mini and Mod League’s and the continuing challenge is to retain as many of our Mini and Mod players as possible as they move into International League age groups.

In the three A Grade Competitions there were 13 Manly teams and 8 North Sydney teams.

2012 was the sixth year of the Manly Warringah District JRL / North Sydney District JRL Joint Competition from Under 13 years to A Grade, with the exception of the Under 13 age group where there was no joint competition in 2012.

I would like to thank fellow committee members of the MW / NS Joint Competition, Kevin Nichols and Mark Dowel from North Sydney and John Fox from Manly Warringah District JRL for their time, commitment, contribution and counsel throughout 2012.

Sea Eagles Coaching and Development 2012 Season Report

2012 was a big year for the sea eagles junior reps and junior development squads. In the 2012 Harold Matthews (under 16) team there were 14 out 21 players from our local clubs. In the sg ball (under 18’s) team we had 12 out of 23 players from local clubs; this is a wonderful result for the junior league and our local club. The Harold Matthews team finished the competition in 9th position with 4 wins, 4 losses and a bye. The sg ball team got knocked out of the competition in the finals; they finished the regular season in 2nd position with 8 wins and 1 loss.

Clinton Gutherson and , 2 of our local rising stars were selected for the NSW under 18’s side that played QLD in an origin Curtin raiser. Clinton was also selected in the 2012 Australian school boys’ team.

The junior development squads took a new direction this year, we invited every local player in the under 15’s competition to come down every Wednesday night starting in February for 8 weeks to do some extra preseason training and skill development. This was a great success.

In late May we started the bulk of our development squads, we ran a U13’s, U14’s, U15s and under 17’s development squad, the U13’s, U14’s and U15s were open to every player registered in the manly Warringah junior league competition, theses development squads ran for a total of 9 weeks on a Wednesday night.

The under 13’s and 14’s played a trial match against North Sydney and from that we selected 25 players to participle in a gala day run by the Bulldogs. This gala day gave the players the opportunity to represent manly against a large number of the other NRL clubs, it was a great day and the players represented manly very well.

The under 15’s also played a trial match against North Sydney and from that we selected 25 players to participle in a gala day run by the Central Coast. This gala day gave the players the opportunity to represent manly against a large number of the other NRL. Theses trial also gave us the opportunity to select the 2013 Harold Matthews train on squad from, in the 2013 Harold Matthew team there will be 23/25 local players.

The under 17’s played a gala day run by the Newcastle, This gala day gave the players the opportunity to represent manly against a large number of the other NRL this was also use to select the 2013 SG Ball team, in the 2013 SG Ball team there will be 16 out of 25 local players.

Season 2012 Annual Report Page 11

Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated

The 2012 development squads were a huge success with about 300 local players participating. The more the clubs can support our development programs the more local players get the opportunity to play for the sea eagles.

2012 was a big year for courses. We had over 90 coaches undertake a coaching course, we had over 80 coaches turn up to the district coaching update we ran in June at Narrabeen. We had well over 100 people do the league safe course and about 50 people do the first aid course, this is a great effort by our clubs. In the last 2 years our coaching accreditation has risen from about 45% of qualified coaches to this year we have about 90% qualified coaches.

Simon Healey

Judiciary Report

In writing this report for the 2012 Season I wish to thank Brian Friend for his support and his immaculate paperwork for the Committee. Thanks must also go to those who assisted with the cases we dealt with. Adam Kent, Jackie McCauley, John Fox, Craig Lovelace, Danielle Kifooti, Bob Butcher and John McGarry without these people we could not have done the work.

Thanks also should be given to Narrabeen Junior League and Christian Brothers Junior League for the use of their premises for the hearings.

This year saw a reduction in the number of cases heard (almost a 2/3 reduction). As to what was beneficial to the code needs to be investigated. What was of a major concern was the increase in the younger age groups where players were sent from the field. We need to be aware of what triggers some of these incidents to safeguard the future of the game.

We will be doing an analysis of our records from 2004 to 2012 to be able to give guidance for future Committees.

I believe that the Judiciary has made its decisions Fairly and Honestly with considerations given to all parties concerned.

Ground Manager’s Report

Thank you to everyone who attended the Ground Managers Courses in 2012. We ran two separate courses during the year with great success.

In the past two years, as a Junior League, we have been able to Accredit 94 people as Ground Managers, after taking them through the essential duties and responsibilities required to run their Grounds and oversee games played at their respective Clubs.

We would like to ask Clubs to encourage ALL of their Team Managers to undertake the course in the coming season. This will ensure that there is always an Accredited Ground Manager at your scoring table at all games.

We will continue to provide this course to Clubs free of charge and thank all Clubs for their participation and for supporting the initiative.

Chairman Code of Conduct Report

For the 2012 season a Code of Conduct Rules and Procedures Policy was implemented and a Code of Conduct Panel was put in place at our last AGM.

Throughout the season there were eight Code of Conduct cases brought before the Code of Conduct Panel.

Briefly six hearings resulted in a guilty verdict, one case was found ‘not proven’ and there is still one case pending a hearing.

Thank you to the members of the Code of Conduct Panel, Rob Peard, Adam Kent, Jacky McCauley and Paul Vescio for their time, commitment and contribution throughout 2012.

Avalon Bulldogs JRLFC

Welcome Sponsors, Mums Dads, and Kids.

Where did the season go? It just seems like the other day the new committee and I were sitting down discussing the season ahead.

Firstly congratulations to our mighty Grand Final winners in the Under 11 and Under 14 teams. To achieve such a feat is fantastic. Well done to all involved.

The season started off with a brand new oval (that made us the envy of the Junior League) but left us unable to use the Oval for pre-season training, so our boys were spread far and wide around Avalon looking for a green patch to train on. We also had the added benefit of irrigation for the oval BUT as we all soon found out we missed so many training days thru out the season as the new field had such poor drainage. Thankfully Council will be installing drainage in the off season.

This year we trialled with the support of the Junior League, having our each home game allocation, as a SUPER Saturday meaning we had both Junior and Seniors playing on a Saturday, rather than having the Seniors on a Sunday afternoon. And what a sight it was each Saturday night watching the Senior Teams play at the Doggie Dome under lights!! The crowds came out to watch some sensational footy and then stayed onto party on at the Clubhouse. All in all a huge success – players enjoyed it as it gave them the Sunday to recover from their injuries before having to go off to work on the Monday, the volunteers enjoyed it as they too got the Sunday off and the crowd enjoyed the entertainment afterwards that the Club put on. Who would have thought the Doggies were the karaoke kings and queens of the Peninsula!! And how we all sang!!

A season highlight was the Club choosing to support the Woman in League Breast Cancer Jane McGrath Day on June 23rd. How good did all our boys look in their pink socks to show their support for the Day? A big thank you to all the parents and volunteers who also helped out to make this day such a success, with the Club raising close to $2000 for the Jane McGrath Foundation. To the best of my knowledge we were the only Junior Club in Manly Warringah District to get fully behind this wonderful cause. You should all be very proud of yourselves! We will be making this a yearly event the Club supports.

The season in total resulted in every Junior and Senior Team making the semi-finals with the exception of the U/6’s and U/7’s whose games are non-competitive. What a massive achievement for our Club. What a wonderful team we have of players, coaches, managers, and trainers. Thank you all for your hard work and most importantly than you for choosing to help our Club be the success that it is. Your time taken to do this is so greatly appreciated.

Thank you to all our tireless volunteers who back up each home game without question and to all the parents for ensuring our boys make it to training and to the games.

To my fellow committee members thank you so much for your support thru out the season. You guys/girls have made a significant contribution in making the season the success it has been.

Michael Birtwistle President Avalon JRLFC

Beacon Hill Bears JRLFC

I would like to start by thanking everyone involved at the Club in 2012 for their valuable contributions to the kids, the Club and our community at the Bears.

What a year!

All of our kids had a great year on and off the field. We have built a strong and supportive culture at the Club that has seen measurable success for our players. We have seen all of our players improve their football this year and enjoy being a part of the Club.

Many thanks to the sponsors that came on board with the Bears in 2012. We hope that they have enjoyed your participation in the Club and will continue to support us in future seasons.

Our sponsors for the year were:

And to our success on the field, where do I start? From our Under 12’s starting the pre- season with a win at the Lincoln Withers Shield in Canberra to our Under 9’s and again our Under 12’s being Undefeated Minor Premiers and then a hat-trick of Division 1

Season 2012 Annual Report Page 15

Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated

Premierships on Grand Final Day at Brookvale Oval (Under 8’s, Under 9’s and Under 12’s), we had success all over the park. Our A2 team also took strides to gain ground in the competition and in their last home game of the season, celebrated the memory of a valued Bear, Alamoni Taione in the inaugural ‘Moni’ Shield match. They came away with the trophy and the boys will take pride in owning it until next year.

Our Under 12’s after their Lincoln Withers Shield Win

It was all topped off by taking home the 2012 Col Mills Trophy from the Manly Warringah District Presentation Night for Most 1st Division Premierships won in the District. What a monumental achievement for such a small but dedicated Club of players and families.

Thanks to everyone who had a hand in our great Club in 2012. Thanks to all of our Coaches, Managers and Trainers for all of their hard work. Thanks to our Seniors for keeping the canteen doors open during the season. Thanks to our little Committee for all of the work that you do that no one sees but is vital to the management of the Club.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Manly Warringah Executive for all of their hard work and dedication to our sport during the 2012 season.

Danielle Kifooti President Beacon Hill Bears JRLFC

Belrose Eagles JRLFC

While the 2012 season was a turbulent one we still enjoyed a fabulous season and success on the field. Good registration numbers saw the Club field teams in all age divisions and while a Grand Final eluded us this year we did have 3 teams make the final games and all but 1 team make the semi-finals.

In the juniors 11s and 12s won through to the grand final while the 17s set the Season 2012 Annual Report Page 16

Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated standard in the seniors by earning the opportunity to defend their title from last year. In a grand final replay o the previous year against Narrabeen the game went in to extra time before Narrabeen ran out winners.

Thanks to the continued hard work of our volunteers game days continue to run smoothly thanks mainly to those who are there early to set up and generally there again to clean up at the end of the day. Many of these people are back again Sundays. While it is always difficult to single out many of the people who give up their time through the year however there are a few people I believe that deserve special mention of thanks.

Dave and Andrea Patterson

Sean and Clarissa Wilson

Kerry Nugent and Tom Nugent

Vicki Collins

Trent and Carla Keys

Thanks to all who give up their time to work in the canteen, grounds, registration, recruitment and touch footy in making our club so special.

To the coaches and managers of our teams congratulations on a job well done all the kids have had a great season and enjoyed every minute.

Thank you to the Board of Barry Johnson, Brad Martin, Eric Galloway, Mark Abrahams, Matt Brown and Virginia Wills for their tireless commitment and sheer hard work. Unfortunately, the Board need to make tough decisions from time to time, which has always been done with the best interest of the club and more importantly the players in mind. A personal thank you to Virginia who has been of enormous support to me throughout the year.

Lastly, thank you to all the parents, players and supporters who prove every week that the Belrose spirit is alive and well. Enjoy the offseason and we hope to see you all back in 2013.

Scott Collins President Belrose Eagles

Christian Brothers OBFC

As I indicated at last year’s AGM, the time has come for me to step aside from all the executive positions within the club. I have enjoyed my time on the executive but age

Season 2012 Annual Report Page 17

Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated catches up with you. I am sure new faces and new ideas will drive the Club in the right direction.

The 2012 season saw the Club field 10 junior sides and 1 senior side. It was a highlight to again have an “A”grade side after missing out in 2011. The hard work put in by Mark West and Darren Sing to get the side on the field cannot be underestimated.

All teams showed improvement over the season and we picked up two premierships with our U10 (Div 1) and U12 (Div2) being successful. To the players, coaches and managers of these two teams, congratulations. To all other players, thank you for your efforts and be assured the Club was very proud of your performances. Players who receive awards, remember rugby league is a team sport and you would not receive your award for your talent if it were not for the other players around you.

There are many people who help the Club run smoothly throughout the year. Whether you are a player, coach, manager, helping in the canteen or on the BBQ, setting up the fields or being ground manager, we would not be able to operate without your contribution. To all of you, I thank you for the time you give to the Club.

The financial demands being placed on clubs is increasing every year whether it be fees for first aiders, trainers or coaching courses, team nominations or fees associated with the use of fields (lighting etc…), they are all the responsibility of junior clubs. This is the area of rugby league where I have real concerns for the future of the game. To our sponsors, I thank you for your generosity in helping the Club take care of these expenses.

Finally, I would like to thank Jacky & Karen for the work they do and the patience they show towards me.

The first thing I would like to say to everyone involved with the Cromer Kingfishers Thank you!! In our 43rd season was certainly one in which we can look back on with pride. From Under 6`s to u/14`s we flourished both on and off the field - there was a real sense of excitement and energy though out the season.

We had some brilliant results from our players in 2012.

6 teams made the Grand Final & 2 teams were Premiers 2012 all the other teams did the club proud though out the year & also had lots of fun along the way. Thank you once again to all our Coaches and Managers for a job well done!!!

Also thank you to Marco & Peter for helping with running the drills We graded u10`s & u11`s which was a success in 2012.

Thank you to all our volunteers who cooked the snags, set out the field, manned the table and ran the line. Thank you to all the parents for supporting your kids and teams all season. On top of that I have met so many wonderful people this year, from the kids to the parents of the kids playing footy, the Coaches, Trainers, Managers and Volunteers all sharing the same passion for Rugby League - it really is a great game for bringing people together. I've also been to and watched countless games and have enjoyed them all immensely, it is a real credit to all the families and coaching staff as to how the kids have conducted themselves on and off the field when representing the Cromer Kingfishers this year.

Not only did we have a great year on the footy fields, there were some great times had off the field with our club bingo night which saw 230+ people in attendance enjoying a great Family night. The Ladies night & poker night & also all the Club get togethers we had though out the year

Thank you to the 2012 committee, Debbie Gyde, Sharron Forsyth, Belinda Kent, Julie Mc Manus, Maree Pickering Tatum Woods, Tom Akhurst, Daniel Woodhouse, Antonny LaTorraca, Allen Pickering Gerard Barwell, Udo Weise you guys have put in a tremendous amount of work and all that work has paid off with the club being in a great position in aspects of the Club

Also the 2012 season the Committee has updated our whole Amenities Block which looks great. The Club received a grant from the NSW state Government to pay for the work that was done.

For now I hope you all enjoy the break away from footy and have a great summer. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself this year and am looking forward to seeing you all back again for another great season of Rugby League in 2013.

Forestville Ferrets JRLFC

It’s odd to say that a football year is a successful year when you haven’t won a premiership, but for all of us at the Ferrets, the 2012 season has been extremely successful despite the lack of silverware.

Of course it depends on how you measure success and there a various ways that you can make this assessment. For junior football clubs, or at least for the Ferrets the major criteria are, in order:

1. Players retained: on this score we got off to a bad start when the U19’s were not able to get a side on the field (we are still hopeful for 2013) and we also decided to run with one A grade team, not two which has a major impact on players registered. However we also picked up a second U11s and of course a new U6. So overall we increased our junior numbers by almost 10%. Tick!

2. Committed officials: Of course this starts with the board (whose commitment is without question), but more importantly it has most impact with coaches, managers and trainers. Through attendance at meetings, functions, supporting club activities, etc we have a very dedicated group of people who are very focussed on ensuring all our kids enjoy their footy and reinforce some simple but important values, like mateship and sportsmanship. Tick!

3. Volunteers and parent involvement: We all know the people who are there week in and week out, keeping Ferretville ticking over, and to be blunt we would be in trouble without them. However we would also not be able to function without the support of many in the canteen, baking cakes (a new one this year), setting up fields, selling raffle tickets and on and on. This year we have seen many new faces in and around the club, not just working, but enjoying their involvement. In my own mind this is our greatest success this year. Double Tick!

Season 2012 Annual Report Page 20

Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated

4. Sponsors: Big, small or otherwise the generosity and involvement of our sponsors is essential to our long term success. Without going into detail this was potentially a tough year financially for the club, but we have done well with the help of everyone but particularly our sponsors. Please support them, like they support us. Tick!

5. Playing success: Okay we didn’t win a premiership however we had 11 of 13 teams in semis, 9 making it through to week 2, 5 to the finals and 3 in Grand Finals. We won more games on average per team this year than we did last year – that’s something. Most importantly whether it was the kids or A grade after the games were done, everyone was happy with their effort and enjoying being with their mates. Tick!

Despite all of the above I know it was a successful year for one simple reason - it always feels good when we head down to Ferretville, the most picturesque ground in the district, to watch footy and catch up with all the new and old Ferrets and everyone seems to be having as good a time as I am. What more could you want!

Have a great summer and see you back in 2013.

Scott Johnson President Forestville Ferrets JRLFC

Harbord United Devils JRLFC

Year 2012 was another good year for the Harbord United Devils. We fielded 21 sides. While most sides made the semi’s we had 4 in grand finals. Winning 2 of those was a good effort.

Congratulations to all the sides who participated for this year and to all the coaches and managers for a job well done. I know all the parents and the committee appreciate your efforts.

We hosted Tugun from Queensland this year in the under 11s and 12s. With Harbord Park closed due to wet weather it was a last minute change to get Keirle Park. There were 4 games played and a great day was had by all involved. Fundraising is already under way for the return trip to Queensland next year.

I would also like to thank all the volunteers that make our great club run .From Carol who works tirelessly at the canteen and her helpers Jacqui and Lucy to our Vice President John Winsor. All the BBQ staff especially Ralph and Howie and to the people who help set up and pack up the park on a Saturday. Special thanks must go to the Clubs Secretary Paul Chipchase and also Bob Butcher for all their support to me throughout the year.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate John Winsor for receiving his life membership to the club.

I would also like to thank all our sponsors who without them the club would not be the success it is. Thank you to Harbord Bowling Club, Freshie Chickens, Your Style Home Additions, Harbord Bendigo Bank, Barry Taylor and Partners, Freshwater Village Butchery, Print and Signs, Cheries Pies, Drip Dry Bathrooms, Dairy Farmers, Green Grass Gardens, Keith Burrows Body Repairs, Painting NSW, APL Poker

Once again I would like to thank everyone who contributes to help make Harbord United so enjoyable

Finally, a big thank you to the all the kids who are the future of this club.

Scott Martin President Harbord United Devils JRLFC

Manly Cove Rebels JRLFC

The 2012 season saw the Club field 2 junior sides and 2 senior sides. It was a highlight to have such high numbers in the Under 6’s. The hard work put in by Will and Martha to get the side on the field and to create a nurturing and welcoming environment cannot be underestimated and I expect that we will see most of the players returning for 2013.

Our Under 14’s were outstanding this season. They generated some great publicity for the club and through their efforts as referees we gained respect from the referees association. Our boys were deserved undefeated premiers, their on field and off field behaviour is a credit not only to themselves and their parents but to John Hopoate as coach. You instilled discipline, professionalism and a sense of pride in the boys and I received numerous compliments from the parents of the boys in the team. I look forward to having the boys back for the 2013 season.

Our Under 17’s are another great bunch of players that do themselves proud. They were unlucky not to make it to Brookvale Oval but I am looking forward to watching their progress throughout the 2013 season. Again, big thank you to Marlene and Tua. Your efforts with the boys makes the difference and keeps the team together.

A Grade - To all players, thank you for your efforts and be assured the Club was very proud of your performances. You are a very talented bunch of players and it was a shame that your season ended due to unfortunate circumstances. John again, you are a great coach and always bring out the best in any player. Your efforts at the club this season have very much appreciated.

Season 2012 Annual Report Page 22

There are many people who help the Club run smoothly throughout the year. Whether you are a player, coach, manager, running the canteen or on the BBQ, setting up the fields or being ground manager, we would not be able to operate without your contribution. To all of you, I thank you for the time you give to the Club.

To our sponsors, I thank you for your generosity in helping the Club take care of the increasing expenses that clubs are faced with.

Finally, I would like to thank Sue, Marty, Renee, Adam, John, Sharon, Will & Martha for the work they do and the patience they show towards me.

Dennis Keane President Manly Cove Rebels JRLFC

Mona Vale Raiders JRLFC

It has been another great season at the Raiders in 2012. We fielded 14 sides from U6's to UI6's, with 10 sides playing in semi finals, 4 making it to the Grand Final and 2 finishing as Premiers. Whilst these achievements are an important measure of our success, we have seen great improvement in all of our teams over the year and to me it was really rewarding to see the skills, teamwork, fun, friendships and club spirit continue to grow.

The key drivers in much of that were our Coaches, Managers and Trainers. So a big thank you goes to each of them for their time, effort, knowledge, patience and dedication in working to get your teams to realise their full potential. You've all done a fantastic job and we hope that most of you will want to embrace the challenge again next year.

The contribution and support from my fellow Committee members has been outstanding. There has been lots of healthy debate throughout the year on mission, policy and operational issues, with some tough decisions made, but always it was done with the best interests of the club in mind. So it is a huge thank you to John Trbojevic, Karen Gaynor, Tania Marr, Greg Stocken, Jade Warner, Brett Delmege, Matt Hanlon, David O'Donnell and Paul Vescio for doing an excellent job in their respected roles.

Whilst there have been many challenges along the way as usual, I think that we have continued to develop and improve in lots of areas - especially in the operational aspects.

Greg Stocken has done a tremendous job in putting all of our registrations online. This involved entering all our player details into the Sporting Pulse system, which means that now we are no longer reliant or at risk with all of our registration details being on a

Season 2012 Annual Report Page 23

Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated single computer. This will offer enormous benefits for us in the future, simplifying the registration process by having all the information in one place, facilitating rollovers and enabling online payments to be made for players reregistering. Through his efforts we are leading the way with this in the Manly District.

Mel Murphy took over as Canteen Manager this year. Apart from doing an absolute fabulous job in one of the club's most important roles, she was responsible for in- troducing a number of great new initiatives - cappuccino coffee, the JT special and most importantly the half day, team based rosters. The team rostering has resulted in the load being fairly shared across the club, more people making a contribution, understanding how it operates. So sincere thanks go to Mel and all of our canteen helpers - there's no doubt that if there was a premiership for club canteens, Mona Vale would win it hands down.

Our Treasurer Tania Marr has researched and implemented a new, user friendly, web based accounting system that means that we now have a much more transparent, robust and efficient system for managing the clubs finances in the years to come. Excellent work Tania - thanks!

A big thank you goes to Karen Gaynor, who after 2 years as Club Secretary is stepping down next year. She has done a terrific job in handling most of the communications to and from the club, minuting the Committee Meetings, as well as helping to pull the Presentation Day, AGM and Annual Report together.

Fiona Kelsall, apart from her infectious passion and enthusiasm to get the most out of the U9W team, also did a fabulous job as our website coordinator. She had to learn how it worked, manage some of the challenging formatting 'features', but the content was always up to date and well written. Thanks also to the coaches who did game day write ups that we put on the website - it's a thrill for the kids to see their names and deeds as front page news.

Over the last 3 years Tahlia Binding has done a lot of wonderful work as our Sponsorships Coordinator. Her efforts have enabled us to keep our fees very low - there's no doubt that the Raiders offer the best value for money in town. Everyone has a lot to thank 'Tahls' for in promoting the club so well and building the relationships that she has with so many great sponsors.

So I would like to thank all of our sponsors for their fantastic support which enables us to kick start the year with financial security. To Domain Residential, Viking Diesel and Electronics, Bakker Towing, Mona Vale Quality Butchers, Binding Prestige Panel and Paint, RDJ Tranz, Triple M Austereo, Hogs Breath Cafe, Pittwater RSL, Newport Arms, MGM Electrical, Oxford Falls Welding, Barrenjoey Air Conditioning, Geoff Groom Building, The Pool Centre and Warner Family Chiropractic, we hope that you have enjoyed your association with the Raiders and look forward to your continued contribution in 2013.

During the year we had a couple of Committee Meetings that focussed on what we are doing right and the areas that we need to improve on. We felt that whilst we were handling the operational aspects well and making sure it all comes together well on game day, that we needed to increase attention on the social side of the clubs activities.

Season 2012 Annual Report Page 24

Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League Incorporated

As a result we put on the Grand Parents day - and I think that everyone who came enjoyed it immensely. It was great to see so many people helping out, all the smiles, the colour, the positive vibe and our club spirit clearly demonstrated. I've had lots of feedback from the other clubs who were at Newport that day saying how impressed they were with what we did and indicating that they wanted to 'borrow' the concept next year.

Our major fundraiser this year was the Sports Dinner and what an unbelievable job the Social Committee did - it was brilliantly organised with lots of fabulous prizes donated by many wonderful sponsors. Gus Worland was sensational as the MC and auctioneer for the night. He also did excellent interviews with our special NRL guests Andrew Ryan, Jake Trbojevic and Luke Vescio. Added to that, Ronnie Flew's band played lots of terrific music. We raised a lot of money, everyone had a great time and the night was a spectacular success by any measure. So a huge thank you goes to the team - Mel Trbojevic, Mel Murphy, Cheryl Amir, Deanna James, Fiona Kelsall, Helen Mijakovac, Janine Hanlon, Lucy Harley, Shirley Phillips and Tahlia Binding for their outstanding efforts.

Another great contribution was made by our team of regulars who helped to set up Newport Oval for home games - Brett Delmege, Melissa and Mitch Murphy, Murray Warner, Matt Hanlon, Scott Burdon, David O'Donnell, John, Jake and Tom Trbojevic. Arriving in the dark and cold but getting everything ready for game time was always done with great efficiency and a lot of laughs. So thanks to a terrific team, your commitment was much appreciated - during the year I got great feedback from a number of clubs on how well the ground was presented and how well we were organised.

Special mention must go to our team of Ground Managers and First Aid Officers and Club Referees - without them no game can be played. None of these jobs are easy and whilst we have had to manage a number of difficult situations this year, they were all handled very well. So great thanks to Brett Delmege, Murray Warner, David O'Donnell, John Trbojevic, Greg Stocken, Matt Hanlon, Paul Vescio, Cameron Edgar, Mitch Murphy and Renee Leopold for their combined efforts in helping to make it all run so smoothly.

A huge thank you also goes to David O'Donnell who has been primarily responsible for pulling together the Annual Report over the last few years. Of course anything that looks this good is the result of a lot of thought, effort and expertise. Each year our Annual Report just keeps getting better and better. I'm sure that many people love looking back at the wonderful memories that have been captured so well. Well done David - sensational job.

Finally I hope that belonging to the Mona Vale Raiders has been something that everyone has greatly enjoyed and want to do again next year. If you do, please sign up again before Nov 1 - it will save you money and will help us enormously in our planning and preparation for 2013. So enjoy a great break during summer, but I hope that starting about February you are really looking forward to the footy season again!

Stability, a healthy bank balance and two Premiers. What else could an Octogenarian want?

Congratulations to all Sharks players and supporters for celebrating our 80th year in the spirit the Club deserves.

A huge thank you goes to Toni Couper. Angela Sanders and Shaz Casey for all the effort they have put in throughout the year. Thank you also to Kath Adams for all her help and support, to Tonia Pai in the canteen, and Phil Hunter, Mick Adams, Col Halinan and Tony Balkin for their energy and effort feeding what at times, looked like the whole Peninsula.

To Tim Couper, Choppy and Chris for their time and cooperation keeping the ground looking the best it has in years.

To Mick Hodges and all our ground managers for patrolling the side lines and to Bluey for looking after the beloved second home.

We have the largest supporter base, almost the best A Grade side (next year for sure boys!), undefeated U17 Premiers and Minor Premiers and Premiers UI3's, added to that plenty of grand finalists and semi finalists, and all this makes us one of the strongest Clubs in the district and one that I am very proud to be a Life Member of.

Thank you as always to our generous sponsors Narrabeen RSL, All Over Rigging and AS Roof Tiling, your support is always gratefully received.

Happy 80 years, and see you in 2013.

Another season has ended and I'm pleased to say that all the Hawks enjoyed it, win lose or draw. We fielded fifteen teams, with most contesting semi finals and a few progressing further.

As we all know, it takes a very great effort behind the scenes to run a football club,

Season 2012 Annual Report Page 26

Also thanks go to the Junior League board for all their efforts, especially to Kim Hunter and John Fox who both made themselves available on a daily basis to ensure the smooth running of the various competitions. I would also like to thank the referees for their assistance in running our game.

Finally a very big thank you to all the delegates from all other clubs who gave up their Monday nights, we might not always agree, but I think I'm correct in saying that all delegates act for the best· interests of the game.

Peter Harris Secretary Narraweena Hawks JRLFC

The season 2012 was one of mixed results. Both of our lower grades showed the depth in the club by taking out their respective premierships.

Our A Grade team were hot and cold. One week knocking off the competition leaders then faltering the next against weaker opposition. The early exit from the semi finals after week one was a hard pill to swallow, knowing what the boys were capable of.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all coaches, trainers, managers and support staff of our 3 sides. The tireless work that each of you put in to preparing the sides week in week out, ensured that the boys were well prepared and ready to play each and every Sunday.

A big thank you to all members of the Board of Valley United, who continue to do so much work behind the scenes to ensure that our club ru7ns smoothly.

Ladies Day was yet again a massive success and continues to grow in popularity. This years Kane Mason Members Day saw another “1st” for the Valley with the inaugural Valley vs. Belrose Masters fixture. It was a great day and the game was played in a great spirit. I could not walk for 2 days after the match and I know the rest of the “Masters” boys all took the best part of the week to get the limbs moving again.

Special thanks to John, Trish and Sean from the Harbord Beach Hotel. As our major sponsors, their continued support enables our club to field our teams in the competition year after year.

Special mention also must go to the Bendigo Bank for their ongoing commitment to our club and especially as naming rights of the ever successful Ladies day.

Thanks you to all our sponsors who all contributed to Valley in 2012. Your contribution is greatly appreciated and I hope you will be back on board in 2013.

On behalf of the Board of Valley United, I would like to wish all our members and their families a very happy and safe Christmas and a joyous New Year.
