At a time in our history when our nation, church and society seem to be more and more polarized and divided,Taller de José is committed to creat - ing loving relationships by fulfilling the mission of Jesus, “that all may be one,” the mission that has been a part of the lives of the Sisters of St. Joseph since 837 the 17th century. Each day,Taller de José reminds itself of this mission as we seek to connect UNIQUE people to services and services to people. We build relationships among our INDIVIDUALS SERVED staff members. We strengthen relationships with our agencies and organiza - tions which serve our clients. We work with our Board of Directors to ensure that we remain faithful to the ministry of accompaniment. Perhaps, most importantly,Taller de José works to establish a bond of trust with its clients, people who are often afraid to seek assistance or are overwhelmed by their life situation. Taller de José welcomes and assists people with a variety of needs. When 487 Marco, a senior citizen who as Alzheimer’s, needed to apply for a Senior Citizen OFF-SITE CTA pass,Taller de José assisted him in filling out the application. A few years ago, Eva, a single mother, sought assistance to enroll her newborn daughter in ACCOMPANIMENTS the Illinois All Kids insurance program. She recently returned for information about Head Start programs available in the neighborhood for her daughter. Juanita came toTaller de José alone and distressed because her husband aban - doned her and their three children. We accompanied her to Catholic Charities for counseling and helped her find rental assistance and clothing for her children. 150 Taller de José is able to continue our mission because of our generous donors. I invite you, once again, to donate toTaller de José to assist us PARTNERING in connecting people to services and services to people. An envelope has been COMMUNITY AGENCIES provided for your convenience, or you can donate at www.tallerdejose.org. Marco, Eva Juanita and all our clients count on you for your support. May you continue to notice the accompaniment of our gracious God who accompanies each of us throughout our lives. • Bishop Barnes of San Bernardino Retires; Coadjutor Bishop Rojas Succeeds Him
Bishop Barnes of San Bernardino retires; Coadjutor Bishop Rojas succeeds him WASHINGTON (CNS) (Updated) — Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Gerald R. Barnes of San Bernardino, California, and Coadjutor Bishop Alberto Rojas immediately succeeds him. Bishop Barnes has headed the diocese since 1996. In June, he turned 75, the age at which canon law requires bishops to turn their resignation into the pope. Bishop Rojas had been an auxiliary bishop of the Chicago Archdiocese since 2011 when Pope Francis named him as coadjutor for San Bernardino Dec. 3, 2019. The Mexican-born bishop relocated to California’s Inland Empire diocese, as it’s known, in February. Bishop Barnes’ resignation was announced in Washington Dec. 28 by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States. Bishop Alberto Rojas. CNS In a Dec. 28 statement, Bishop Rojas said he would “like to build on the momentum that is clearly present” in the diocese and would not make any “big changes right away.” “There is no doubt, when looking at the events of this past year, that I am coming to lead the diocese at a very challenging time,” he said, but he added that he has already witnessed the strong and committed faith of the diocesan Catholics. He said in his years of ministry, in the seminary and as a priest and bishop in Chicago, he encountered many new challenges but he “always trusted in God’s plan for me to serve his church, and that he will give me all that I need to do his work.” Bishop Rojas was born Jan.

By proclaiming this a Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis has asked each of us to be the hands of God’s mercy in our often violent and poverty-stricken world. Mercy can overcome any type of adversity and instill hope for the future. At the beginning of the Jubilee Year, the Holy Father requested that cathedrals and churches around the globe open Holy Doors of Mercy that can be visited in every diocese. A door is symbolic of a passage to something new, and opening a door is an invitation to cross over, to enter a different space. By passing through a Holy Door of Mercy, we are invited to enter a place where God’s mercy and mercy for BLASE J.

This day. Every day. Catholic Charities. 2019 ANNUAL REPORT Every day. ? How can we help At more than 280 locations and service sites across Cook and Lake counties, our first question is, “How can we help?” From food and clothing to housing, job training, and counseling, Catholic Charities meets people where they are and works with them to create new opportunities, new behaviors, and new futures. Whatever the need — a helping hand or longer term care and support — we are proud to bring our experience and expertise to bear in improving the lives of hundreds of thousands of people each year. LETTER FROM THE ARCHBISHOP Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, The love of God and love of neighbor have driven the mission and history of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago for the past 102 years. Through our parishes, religious orders, volunteers, donors, and board members we have brought the Church’s social mission to life. Loving the poor, a mark of the Church from its earliest days, involves enabling all persons to become active participants in the life of society, sharing in and contributing to the common good (Catechism of the Catholic Church). We do this each day through programs and services, which meet the basic human needs of food, clothing and shelter, but also offer professional support to help people reach their full potential and share the fruits of their labors. CARDINAL The enclosed 2019 Annual Report provides us an opportunity to stand in the shoes of the hundreds of thousands of people whose lives have been BLASE J.
