The Collects, Post Communion Prayer, Readings and Music for the 8.00am, 9.00am, 11.45am and 6.00pm services

The Collect for Trinity Sunday Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Post Communion for Trinity Sunday Almighty and eternal God, you have revealed yourself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and live and reign in the perfect unity of love: hold us firm in this faith, that we may know you in all your ways and evermore rejoice in your eternal glory, who are three Persons yet one God, now and for ever.

First Reading : Isaiah 40.12-17, 27-end Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? Who has directed the spirit of the LORD, or as his counsellor has instructed him? Whom did he consult for his enlightenment, and who taught him the path of justice? Who taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? Even the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as dust on the scales; see, he takes up the isles like fine dust. Lebanon would not provide fuel enough, nor are its animals enough for a burnt-offering. All the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.

Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, ‘My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God’? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless.

4

Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

This is the Word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God.

Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 13.11-end Brothers and sisters, put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.

This is the Word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God.

Gospel Reading: Matthew 28.16-20 The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey every- thing that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’

This is the Gospel of the Lord. ALL Praise to you, O Christ.

Anthem (9.00am)

The Cherubic Hymn from Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, Op.31 (Rachmaninoff)

Let us who mystically represent the Cherubim and chant the thrice-holy hymn unto the life-giving Trinity, now lay aside all earthly cares. That we may receive the King of all who cometh invisibly upborne by the angelic hosts. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Psalms (6.00pm)

Psalm 93 1. The Lord is King, and hath put on glorious apparel * the Lord hath put on his apparel, and girded himself with strength. 2. He hath made the round world so sure * that it cannot be moved. 3. Ever since the world began hath thy seat been prepared * thou art from everlasting. 4. The floods are risen, O Lord, the floods have lift up their voice * the floods lift up their waves. 5. The waves of the sea are mighty, and rage horribly * but yet the Lord, who dwelleth on high, is mightier. 6. Thy testimonies, O Lord, are very sure * holiness becometh thine house for ever. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son * and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be * world without end. Amen.

Psalm 150 1. O praise God in his holiness * praise him in the firmament of his power. 2. Praise him in his noble acts * praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3. Praise him in the sound of the trumpet * praise him upon the lute and harp. 4. Praise him in the cymbals and dances * praise him upon the strings and pipe. 5. Praise him upon the well-tuned cymbals * praise him upon the loud cymbals. 6. Let every thing that hath breath * praise the Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son * and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be * world without end. Amen.

First Reading (6.00pm): Isaiah 6.1-8 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.’ The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. And I said: ‘Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!’ Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: ‘Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out.’ Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’

Here endeth the First Lesson.

6

Second Reading (6.00pm): John 16.5-15 Jesus said to the disciples: ‘But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, “Where are you going?” But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgement: about sin, because they do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer; about judgement, because the ruler of this world has been condemned. ‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and de- clare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

Here endeth the Second Lesson.

Anthem (6.00pm)

Heilig (Felix Mendelssohn)

Heilig, heilig, heilig, ist Gott der Herr Zebaoth! Alle Lande sind seiner Ehre voll. Hosianna in der Höh! Gelobt sei der da kommt im Namen des Herrn! Hosianna in der Höh!

Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God of Sabaoth! All the earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Praised is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!

Flowers The St John’s Cathedral Flower Guild thanks Mr Ng Hong Wing and Ms Joanna Chu for their donations for the cost of flowers to decorate the Cathedral on Sundays and all other festive seasons.

Filming In Church Please note that on Sunday 29th June, the Feast of St Peter and St Paul, there will be a short period of filming during the 9.00am Sung Eucharist as part of the enhancement of our new cathedral website. Just before the sermon slot we will film a 360 degree shot of the cathedral, including the congregation, to provide an online virtual tour of St John’s for those visiting the website. For those who are a little camera shy this notice is just to forewarn you but for the more photogenic among us, perhaps it’s time for a new ‘hair do’?

Next GENESIS Course Registration We are now opening the registration for the next GENESIS Course which will begin on Monday 15th September. This will prepare candidates for baptism and confirmation at the Confirmation Service on Saturday 29th November. The course will meet on ten consecutive Monday evenings and an attendance of at least 70% is required. Please note that candidates are also expected to have worshipped weekly at St John’s, or one of our daughter churches, for at least three months before the start of the course. It is therefore important that prospective candidates register for the course by the first week of July to fulfil these requirements. Please contact the cathedral office about registration and they will put you in touch with one of the clergy for an informal chat about whether this course is right for you. Contact: [email protected]

‘PILGRIMS’ - Post-Genesis Fellowship Group. Congratulations to all of you who were baptised and confirmed last Sunday evening! You may be feeling that now Genesis is finished, and the baptism and confirmation are over, that’s the end. You may be feeling what next? Some of you have asked whether there is any follow-up to Genesis. The answer is, yes, there is a follow-up! This is not the end. In fact, it’s just the start of a new chapter in the story of your lives.

We’d like to invite you to join ‘Pilgrims’, meeting on Monday evenings, starting this Monday and running for 4 weeks on 16th, 23rd, 30th June and 7th July. ‘Pilgrims’ is the name for Christians on a journey. This is your group as we journey on together in the Christian faith. Those who were baptised and confirmed last November are also very welcome to join this group.

We’ll meet in the Harold Smyth Room, downstairs in the cathedral offices, from 7.30-8.30pm. The evening will include a short talk, some bible study, discussion and prayers. There’s no supper included, but there will be tea and coffee, and Father Robert has promised some nice biscuits!

World Refugee Day 2014 Each year on 20th June the United Nations and countless civic groups around the world celebrate World Refugee Day in order to draw the public attention to the millions of refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, conflict and persecution.

In Hong Kong the Christian Refugee Network will mark the day with a programme “We Care, We Serve and We Empower” at St Andrew’s Church, Nathan Road, TST—with a programme including drums, songs, drama and real life stories from refugees in HK. During the evening the Hong Kong Baptist University Choir will sing and Patricia Ho, a leading Human Rights Lawyer will speak. Please do come along from 7.30 - 9.30pm on Friday 20th June.

Organisation of the Michaelmas Fair Raffle has reached the next stage: application for the necessary government licence.

This is therefore the appropriate time to express our deep gratitude to our raffle prize donors, who have come from our Cathedral congregations and also the corporate sector.

In a couple of months, all will be revealed and, thanks to the generosity of these donors, everyone will be able to invest a modest sum for a chance to win one of almost fifty tempting prizes while at the same time contributing to this year's good causes:

St James’ Settlement, St Barnabas' Society and Home, HKSKH Archbishop World Relief Fund, The Comfort Care Concern Group and HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre.

It will be an elegant yet fun evening of food and wine, music, entertainment and warm fellowship, including a very unique auction.

Do mark your calendar for this very memorable event:

Date: Saturday 28th June 2014 Time: Cocktails from 6.30pm

Dinner starts at 7.00pm Cost: $500 per head (includes a six-course sit down dinner

and free flow of wine during dinner) Dress code: Jacket and tie
