Career counseling, planning, information and advice are available Learning & Behavior Disorders through individual meetings, small group sessions or by phone, email and Internet. Middle Grades Education and Learning & Behavior Disorders Secondary Education – Art Career Development offers frequent workshops on resume writing, interviewing skills, Secondary Education – Biology Secondary Education – Chemistry job search strategies and career decision making. Alumni Career Consultants conduct Secondary Education – English mock interviews to help practice and improve their interviewing skills, and Secondary Education – Mathematics Secondary Education – Music Employment Professionals meet with students to review and strengthen their Secondary Education – Social Studies English resumes. Employers and admissions representatives give presentations and host Exercise Science information sessions about their organizations and programs. Undergraduate and Finance Foreign Languages & International Studies graduate students are able to participate in on-campus interviews, career fairs and History other recruiting events with local, regional and national employers. Internships can be paid or unpaid, full-time or part- time, and during the school year or not. For those students seeking academic credit in a particular field of study, supervised learning experiences are coordinated with faculty sponsors, advisors, academic departments and the registrar. Most majors offer internship credit, and several of them require it. Students may earn up to six internship credits within their major, and another six outside of their major.
In addition to formal internship programs, there are many other ways that Bellarmine students obtain practical, hands-on experience. Opportunities include: study abroad programs and international mission trips lasting from just a few days to an entire semester or a full year; clinical rotations and classroom teaching for students in the health sciences and education; on- and off-campus undergraduate research projects for students in the arts and sciences; service learning projects within academic courses offered throughout the university; and co-curricular enrichment activities that promote personal development, community service, multicultural awareness and career preparation while creating an e-portfolio.
Career Success Bellarmine has active relationships with 69% of organizations among the top 20 publicly traded companies and/or top 20 private sector employers in Greater Louisville. Nearly 75% of all students earn academic credit for participating in internships and other experiential learning opportunities. Based on 76% of students reporting their status at graduation in May 2008, 64% had accepted full-time employment offers and 22% were admitted to graduate and professional schools.
