Mission Statement: We seek to create mature disciples through prayer, education, love and service as Jesus Christ proclaimed.

Vision Statement: Church is a group of Catholic Christians who are in the process of becoming a vibrant Eucharistic people by deepening and expanding their faith. We accomplish this through prayer, the grace of the and the process of continuous conversion. With the prayerful leadership of the pastor and the work of many ministries and programs designed to educate, evangelize and support our parishioners and greater community, ICC is a shining example of how a parish uses the gifts of faith, hope and charity for the glory of God and in service to others.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH MADISON, OH From the Pastor… If you want heaven, put talents to good use... Today’s parable speaks of three servants who were each entrusted with a certain sum of money (so many “talents”) by the king who expected a return on his investment. Two made a return. The third did nothing with what had been given to him. In real life, each person is given certain natural gifts: time, resources, intelligence, abilities, oppor- tunities, etc., and some supernatural gifts (gifts of grace): faith, hope, charity, humility, etc. What we do with these things has eternal ramifications. To squander what God has provided, on selfcentered liv- ing, for example, is wrong. Conversely, to use well what God has given us, for his glory (not ours) and the service of others, is what He is looking for. Sometimes people have many worldly advantages but squander the opportunities to put them at the use of the Lord’s service. For example, Cardinal Wolsey, who lived during the reign of King Henry VIII of Eng- land had wealth, connections, a position of power, etc. The cardinal lived for himself and the good graces of the king. He celebrated only once a year. He never went to Rome (though he was supposed to be the ’s representative). He lived like a secular prince. He did not exemplify holiness or defend the rights of the Church. He squandered his talents. There are people with few natural gifts who let God shine through them. Blessed Margaret of Castello (d. 1320) was born blind, lame, deformed and was quite small. When she was six, her proud, noble parents walled her up in a room beside the chapel. She did have access to the Mass and to the sacraments. She was released after 14 years. Her parents prayed that she be cured. When this failed, they abandoned her. At this point she became a lay Dominican and spent the rest of her life in prayer and works of mercy. At her funeral (at age 33) a crippled girl was miraculously cured. The miracle reminds us of Jesus saying to such people (at their judgment): “Come, share your Master’s joy…. I will give you great responsibilities” (their ministry does not stop with death). And there are people among us who do give their gifts for the service of God, amid a secular environment that often does not encourage people to do so. For example, I remember visiting a young, Catholic couple. They had been married about 16 years. They were expecting their ninth child. At times, the young man had to put up with negative remarks from certain colleagues because they could not understand why any couple would want more than a couple of children. Marriage, rightly lived, is a great service to society and to the Church.

PSR NEWS: Second grade students have been scheduled to celebrated their First Reconciliation. At this young age, I don’t believe that any grave sins have been committed thus far, but this is the beginning of their understand- ing of the healing properties of this .I try to talk to most of the students before they go into Recon- ciliation during Advent and Lent. Besides assuring them of Father’s confidentiality, we discuss why we are going to Reconciliation and the ways it will make them a better person, most especially how they feel about themselves. And as being part of the Body of Christ, that forgiveness needs to extend from them in daily life as well.In Matthew, Jesus says “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”In John, he said “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”Sometimes a student tells me it’s hard to forgive someone. That’s when they learn that they must let Jesus forgive through them.I have yet to have one student come out of confes- sion not looking and saying they felt better.Once again with children, they embrace the simple concept that they are God’s, he loves them, and he forgives them when they do wrong. GOSPEL MEDITATION November 15, 2020 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time God gives us the gift of His very self and asks us to invest it. Investing God’s greatest gift of Himself wisely, allows God’s kingdom to grow and flourish. God trusts us with this pearl of great price in hopes that it will produce abundant fruit. While God’s gift of self is realized in the gifts of faith, hope, and love, they are not meant to be solely for personal benefit. They are intended to be shared and are at the heart of Jesus’ blueprint for happiness, the Beatitudes. When we properly invest God’s greatest gift, His most treasured possession, we invest in the wellbeing of all of our brothers and sisters and the world in which we live. We take up most seriously our call to be stewards and properly manage, not only our own affairs, but the affairs of those around and before us. God has put tre- mendous confidence in us. Do we have that same confidence in God? We often go the extra mile and put in the additional effort when it comes to those concerns closest to us: our families, friends, careers, home and securities. But when it comes to things that are not as close to us, we can become lax and less conscientious. Tending to God’s treasure requires a great deal of focus and persistent hard work. It demands that I see the bigger picture, God’s picture, in which selfsacrifice is a given as we la- bor for the establishment of God’s kingdom, God’s vision. Fear and a lack of trust can loom large, however. We are afraid of letting go of what is “mine” and apprehensive of jeopardizing what we have in order to ven- ture into something bigger and more promising. Fear and a lack of trust serve no purpose in God’s kingdom. They benefit neither the person nor God. What is required is a courageous resolve that produces the fortitude necessary to stay the course and do what God is asking. Doing all in our power to cultivate the seeds of faith, hope, and love in our world, working diligently to put all of our relationships in proper order, becoming attentive to systems and ideologies that hurt and op- press people, being mindful of injustice, and laboring on behalf of the poor and the needy are at the core of what each of us is asked to do. It is how we invest God’s most precious gift wisely. If persistent, alert and at- tentive, then life will gradually improve around us, there will be greater peace and we will experience joy. ©LPi

COVIDV19 Safety Guidelines If you feel sick, or have a fever, stay at home. Bring and wear a mask or other face covering while in the Church and during the celebration of Mass, except for the brief moment of receiving Holy Communion. Wash or sterilize your hands upon entering the church. Plan use hand sanitizer. Maintain a 6’ social distance from other groups in the church. We will only be using every other pew. Seat your family group at least 6’ away from other groups. Do not sing. Congregational singing is discouraged as it can contribute to the spread of the virus. If you pick up a bulletin or other literature, take it with you. Do not leave it in the pew or replace it in the stack at the entrance. Donations may be placed in the marked basket inside the main church. The exchange of the sign of peace will be omitted. Please come up to communion via the center aisle, allowing at least 6’ social distance, and observing the marked lines on the floor. Please keep mask on while receiving communion. Move to side and lower mask and consume host. An Usher will guide and alternate sides. Please stay on the side you are sitting. Remember to wash or sterilize your hands following Mass.
