SUBJECT – MATHEMATICS Total: 20 Marks

We all want to be happy, isn’t it? Happiness is 'being satisfied with what you have'. Probability of happiness varies from person to person. But it can be calculated. The word ‘ probability’ and ‘chance’ often come up in our daily life. We often say, “there is no chance of raining today” and also say things like “it is quite probable that India will win the World Cup.” And so on. The class will be divided into 6 groups and each group will work on the following: 1) Think of some situations, at least 3 examples of each, that are certain to happen, some that are impossible and some that may or may not happen i.e., situations that have some chance of happening. If you toss a coin, can you always correctly predict what you will get? Try tossing a coin 10 times and note down its outcomes. You will find that the observations show no clear pattern. You also might have played with a die. The die has six faces. When you throw a die, can you predict the number that will be obtained? The same thing happens when you play cards.

Possibility is a part of mathematics, it’s called PROBABILITY.
