January 2017 The Fundraising Office Federation House Gilwilly Industrial Estate Penrith Cumbria ● CA11 9BL Dear Supporter Thank you for your enquiry about the Hospice at Home 20 Challenge 2017! The information enclosed will hopefully encourage you to join us on a challenge of a lifetime and also be part of one of our biggest fundraising events of the year. 2017 is a special year for Hospice at Home, as it celebrates its 20th Anniversary. Our Clinical Team has cared for almost 6,000 patients and their families during this time and we are proud to provide this vital service in the north and east of Cumbria, Would you like to join hundreds of walkers to raise funds for Hospice at Home during this celebratory year? If so, we’d love to welcome you to the Hospice at Home 20 Challenge! It’s a tough challenge covering 20 miles of stunning Lake District scenery, with 10 peaks to conquer along the way. There is an option to complete an 11 mile/5 Peak route and return transport to Braithwaite Village Institute would be provided from Buttermere for those wishing to do this option. The event will take place on Saturday 3rd June 2017 and will start and finish at Braithwaite Institute, near Keswick (our Base Camp for the day). We are looking for teams of 4 people to enter, which can be a mix of your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours – all we ask is that participants to be over the age of 16 (under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult), be of reasonable fitness to complete the challenge and be willing to train and fundraise to help local charity, Hospice at Home. Our day will begin with an early start as registration will open at Braithwaite Village Institute from 6am. A “Grab and Go” breakfast station will be provided to give you an energising boost to start the day. The walk will begin from Braithwaite Institute and in the morning you will climb the five peaks of Catbells, Maiden Moor, High Spy, Dale Head and Robinson. You will be met at the top of each peak by event marshalls, if you have any queries they are on hand to assist you. You will also be asked to ‘check-in’ at various points on route, which will be advised prior to the event. A refreshment stop is provided at Buttermere Village Hall, just over 11 miles into the route. Snacks and water will be available here, although each participant is encouraged to bring their own lunch. For those wishing to complete the 11 mile/5 Peak Challenge you will finish the route here and be taken back to Braithwaite in a support vehicle. The afternoon will feature the conquering of Whiteless Pike, Wandope, Crag Hill, Sail and Barrow before your triumphant arrival back to Braithwaite Village Institute, to the warm welcome of our event team. Refreshments will also be served. Congratulations will now be in order as you celebrate the success of completing this fantastic challenge! As you celebrate your magnificent achievement you can also rejoice in the fact that you have helped to raise an estimated £25,000 for a vital cause which nurses and cares for local people.
