From the Pastor:

Fr. Llane Briese recently shared a comment as he presented the Cup at Mass. His comment was in response to questions he received as to whether St. Peter Chanel would be assigned another priest to replace him. His answer was quite to the point – He said that there was a priest to replace him, but he hasn’t been born yet. Obviously Fr. Llane was illustrating our need to encourage more vocations; to the priesthood, to consecrated life, to religious orders, to the diaconate. November 6th through the 12th is National Vocation Awareness Week and is a specially designated time during which the Church asks that we discuss, suggest, and encourage our young people to discern the possibility of a religious vocation.

We know that family life and support has a tremendous impact on religious vocations. Mom and Dad, you have the greatest influence on your children. The Church asks that you speak with your child about considering a religious vocation, encouraging them if they express interest. The Catholic ’s Conference website, www.usccb.org, has some very helpful resources for you and your young person. The Archdiocesan Vocations Office, under the direction of Fr. Tim Hepburn (who recently led a Parish Mission here at St. Peter Chanel), hosts a monthly Mass for any young person discerning a possible religious vocation. Information is available at www.calledbychrist.com.

As a Church of prayer, we know that our most powerful resource is the prayers of the entire community. So, each one of us is encouraged to include in the petition for more religious vocations, for those discerning a vocation, for those in formation right now, and for all those serving the Catholic Church as dedicated priests, religious sisters, religious brothers, and deacons.

Please join me for a special Parish Mass honoring our Veterans on Friday, November 11th at 8:30 am. We will join the students of Queen of Angels, as we remember all our veterans, living or deceased, honoring them for their patriotism, their service, and their sacrifice. You are invited to inscribe their names in a Memorial Book which will be carried forward at the beginning of this Mass.
