Join us at St. Joan of Arc on Friday, July 9, from 12—3 pm for Eucharistic Adoration

Understood simply, Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. In a deeper sense, it involves "the contemplation of the Mystery of Christ truly present before us." During Eucharistic Adora- tion, we "watch and wait", we remain "silent" in His Presence and open ourselves to His Graces which flow from the Eucharist ... By worshiping the Eucharistic Jesus, we become what God wants us to be! Like a magnet, the Lord draws us to Himself and gently transforms us.

Feel free to bring your families as well! Creating a sense of quiet and reverence in our young people is a great thing! + + + + + + + + + + + + "I went to adoration for the first time in about 20 years. My evening was booked solid, as is normal for most busy moms. I came tearing into the parking lot between kids' activities and passed my daughter off to my hus- band. I flew into the chapel prepared to check adoration off my list, but something happened in the quiet-- I listened! I mean really listened! I left feeling refreshed and renewed after my 30 minute retreat of silence. I need to put this on my to do list more often."– Anonymous + + + + + + + + + + + +

Adoration will be held for 40 continuous hours throughout the Fall River Diocese starting at 8 am on the 2nd Thursday of every month, ending at midnight on the following Friday.

- 4 - Congratulations to our St. Joan of Arc Parish deacon candidate Our fellow parishioner and candidate for the permanent diaconate, Philip “Skip” Koch, recently received with his diaconal classmates, the formal installation to the ministry of lector. This is a step along the way to to the diaconate ministry in our diocese. Let us support Skip with our encouragement and prayers. Let us remember, as well, Skip's wife, Susan, and their family during this special and momentous time their lives.

Below is a brief explanation of the process of preparation for the permanent diaconate from the 1998 JOINT DEC- LARATION of the Vatican's CONGREGATION FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION and CONGREGATION FOR THE CLERGY: BASIC NORMS FOR THE FORMATION OF PERMANENT & DIRECTORY FOR THE MINIS- TRY AND LIFE OF PERMANENT DEACONS,

“Before anyone may be promoted to the diaconate, whether permanent or transitory, he must have received the ministries of lector and acolyte, and have exercised them for an appropriate time, so that he may “be better dis- posed for the future service of the word and the altar”. In fact the Church “considers it to be very opportune that both by study and by gradual exercise of the ministry of the word and of the altar, candidates for sacred orders should through intimate contact understand and reflect upon the double aspect of the priestly office. Thus it comes about that the authenticity of the ministry shines out with the greatest effectiveness. In this way the candidates come to sacred orders fully aware of their vocation, 'fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, constant in prayer and aware of the needs of the faithful' (Rm 12:11-13)”.

The identity of these ministries and their pastoral relevance are illustrated in the Apostolic Letter Ministeria quaedam, to which reference should be made.

Aspirants to lectorate and acolytate, on the invitation of the director of formation, will make a request for admis- sion, which has been compiled and signed freely, and present it to the Ordinary (the Bishop or Major Superior) who has the authority to accept it. Having accepted the request, the Bishop or Major Superior will proceed to the conferral of the ministries, according to the rite of the Roman Pontifical. It is appropriate that a certain period of time elapse between the conferring of lectorate and acolytate in such a way that the candidate may exercise the ministry he has received. “Between the conferring of the ministry of acolyte and the diaconate there is to be an interval of at least six months”.

- 6 - URGENT NOTICE! from the UNITED STATES CONFERENCE of CATHOLIC BISHOPS Congress is forcing Americans to pay for abortion.

For decades, Congress has protected your money from paying for abortion. Now, some powerful government officials are trying to change that.

2.4 Million Babies Saved —HYDE AMENDMENT

The Hyde Amendment and related laws have kept your tax dollars from paying for elective abortion. Over 2.4 MILLION Americans are alive today because of the amendment [1].

Bipartisan Legacy— HALF A CENTURY

Whether led by Democrats or Republicans, Congress and the White House have supported the amend- ment since it first became law in 1976.

Broad Public Support — UNITED AGAINST COERCION

Many opinion surveys show a strong majority against tax dollars paying for abortion [2]. This includes women and men across a range of income levels and racial diversity. It also includes people who are pro-life and those who are pro-choice [3].

New Extremism — A FEW COERCING THE MANY Once a long-time supporter of the amendment, President Biden is now committed to its repeal [4].

The chair of the House committee in charge of funding government programs broke with long- standing, bipartisan support. She announced that the amendment will NOT be included in the upcom- ing funding bill [5].

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi voiced support for this decision [6].

BILLIONS in Abortion Funding —- WITHOUT THE HYDE AMENDMENT Without the Hyde Amendment and related policies, billions of taxpayer dollars could be used to pay for abortions in the U.S. and overseas.

Getting rid of the amendment would likely lead to many more lives lost through abortion [7].

States' health benefits would likely be held hostage. States would be forced to either include elective abortion in Medicaid or be kicked out of the federal Medicaid program.

The Bishops are asking all Catholics to sign the petition at: NoTaxpayerAbortion.com or write to your Congressmen using: https://www.votervoice.net/USCCB/Campaigns/83763/Respond
