The Club laboratory failed again in its attempt to create an actual Flying Pig in time for this year’s regional tournament. Although a variety of surgical/ Summer Getaway grafting and gene splicing approaches have been tried, nothing better than awkward gliding has been achieved. While not worthy of public exhibition, this Sectional specimen—yclept hyperbolically the “Soaring Sow”—may be seen on the third Friday of each month when guided tours will be offered to Club members. August 15 - 17, 2014 The Club is saddened to announce the passing of its long-time groundskeeper Tommy “The Hatchet” Higgins. Tommy spent his last few years trying to emulate the financial success of Lloyd Olsen—the owner of “Mike the Headless Chicken” (“Miracle Mike”) in the mid-40s. The Club permitted Tommy to maintain a large brood of fowl in a caged enclosure at the back of the Club where he attempted several times each day to decapitate and re-animate District 11 a member of that brood. Apparently, the flock retaliated and attacked Tommy en masse. A paronomasic member of the local constabulary, after viewing the NAP Finals grizzly scene, remarked that it was “a deed most fowl” and that the perpetrators had apparently “flown the coop.” We shall miss Tommy and his chicken dinners. October 11 - 12, 2014 Finally, your reporters congratulate our President, A.J. Stephani, on his recent acquittal from the insider trading charges rashly brought against him by some SEC attorneys who not-so-coincidentally had lost a close knock-out round against A.J.’s team. The theory that A.J.’s tournament play was only a cover for his interception of Warren “T-Bone” Buffet’s investment communications was far-fetched and supported only by the ten instances in which A.J.’s astute Cincinnati stock trading shortly preceded and tracked exactly T-Bone’s public acquisition Spooktacular Sectional Page D11 ACBL 117 122 124 130 136 164 193 227 154 October 24 - 26, 2014 14 SITE SITE ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ ♣ Summer Getaway Sectional Summer Getaway August 15 - 17, 2014 Sectional August 15-17, 2014 Doubletree by Hilton at Our inaugural SCHEDULE * Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport year FRIDAY 2826 Terminal Drive • Hebron, KY 41048 Stratified Open Pairs 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 7 p.m. * Awesome Open Swiss Teams 10 a.m. & 2:30 p.m. hospitality suite

Here is a mini biography of our club manager, Tom Charles: Tom became interested in bridge in his twenties after watching neighbors Terre Haute Zee and Bill Trenfield play a few rounds, and then they told him he had to plunge in. After attending Harvard and Indiana University and earning an Sectional MBA, Tom chose bridge over chess and got involved again. After retiring from Ball State in 2008, he was asked to be the Muncie club manager. October 03 - 05, 2014 Within the past year, he has given strategy lessons twice a month. Tom earned his Life Master and Bronze Life Master status simultaneously. Beverly Salmon is a member whose father introduced her to this challenging game. Jack Madsen helped her on her way to achieving the rank of Life Master. Now Beverly is living the motto “pay it forward” by offering bridge classes in her home. Jack does the Indianapolis background work like ordering supplies and preparing concomitant boards for the lesson of the day. The Muncie club has now added a 0-299 game on Thursdays. Sectional One of our newer members, Linda Parker, is taking lessons from Beverly and Jack. Linda is retired from the U.S. Army and worked on Black Hawk November 21 - 23, 2014 helicopters. “I found bridge both overwhelming and fascinating at first,” she said. “It was interesting enough to keep me coming back.” She took up bridge after her father Tip Hesson encouraged her. “I admired his memory and saw how much fun he was having. You learn by good play and bad play both,” she reflected. Two seasoned players recently scored an 82% game and won 3.00 master points. Rod Ford and Jack Eflin were all Indianapolis smiles after the Upgraded Club Championship game in April.
