Looking ahead to Tokyo and the inaugural Olympic 3x3 basketball competition, USA Basketball has earned a spot in the 2020 Olympic 3x3 Qualifying Tournament, thanks in part to Oregon athletes. A team comprised of Ducks have won the past two Red Bull USA Basketball 3X Nationals and finished as runner-up in 2017. Otiona Gildon, Lydia Giomi, Ruthy Hebard and Sabrina Ionescu finished with a 6-1 mark and the title in 2019; and Erin Boley, Gildon, Hebard and Ionescu won the championship in 2018. Ionescu was crowned MVP both years. The 2018 Ducks squad was named as the USA 3x3 World Cup Team and finished with a 4-1 mark and in fifth place at the 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup in the Philippines. This year, Hebard and Ionescu helped lead the USA to the inaugural Pan American Games 3x3 gold medal, Ionescu was listed on the USA Women’s 3x3 Series team that competed in France, and Hebard finished in fifth place as a member of the USA 3x3 World Beach Games Team. Past Ducks who have competed for USA Basketball internationally are: Jenny Mowe, who helped the U.S. earn gold at the 1997 FIBA U19 World Cup in Natal, Brazil; Stacy Wallenborn (1991) and Sara Wilson (1993), who both collected bronze medals for the USA at the R. William Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan; and Shaquala Williams, who earned a gold medal with the 2001 USA World University Games Team in Beijing, China.
