Students can complete the requirements anytime between Monday, January 20 and Friday, February 28. Each student must verify six (6) hours of work to receive credit for the eLearning day.

IXL Math Students login to their accounts and complete a TOTAL of 2 hours of independent practice on IXL math. The two hours should not be completed in a single session. Teachers should assign specific problem sets that students should work on. This time can be verified by the parent and by the student work log in the teacher IXL reports.

Independent Reading Students read independently and parents verify the time. Teachers could ask for a list of the books/pages that the student reads.

Utah Education Student Interactives Students participate in a virtual science experience based on science standards from their grade level course of study. Go to this website to complete the activities: http://www.uen.org/3-6interactives/science.shtml

3rd Grade—Simple Machine Activities & Levers and Pulleys 4th Grade—A Touch of Class & Interactive Water Cycle 5th Grace— Mountain Maker, Earth Shaker & Volcano Lab

Physical Activity A walk in the park. Soccer or baseball practice. Cheerleading or gymnastics. Time at the gym. Students may count one hour of physical activity toward the eLearning Day requirements.

Digital Scavenger Hunt Students take their parents digital camera, cell phone, etc. and take a nature walk to make photos of a required list of items. A sample list of items follows. Students could post photos in a presentation (e.g. Powerpoint), email to teacher, etc.

Hoover Public Library eLearning Day Program The Hoover Public Library is partnering with Hoover City Schools to provide a library program on Monday, February 17. The program will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and then repeated at 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The program is called “Hands-On Libratory”. The library staff invites students to come explore the library and find out how they can use Legos, catapults and more to increase their knowledge about the world. This program does not require pre-registration.

Other Hoover Public Library Programs During the eLearning completion period the Hoover Library will offer the following programs. Choose any one of the programs for two hours credit.

McWane Center Field Trip Students may visit the McWane Science Center and explore exhibits for up to 3 hours of credit. Beginning February 8 the museum will feature the exhibit Robots + Us, Welcome to the World of Robotics. Visit their website at http://www.mcwane.org/.
