WISCONSIN HEATS UP WITH NON-STOP FUN THIS SUMMER Travel Wisconsin’s list of summer events from April through Labor Day 2014

MADISON, Wis. (April 1, 2014) – Green grass, sunny skies and warmer weather are finally on the forecast, which also means five full months of sizzling summer events. This season brings new festivals including Pig in the Park and HillBilly Hustle; quirky events such as, Fifield Lawn Mower Races and the Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championship; and, others like Baraboo Circus Day Celebration that highlight Wisconsin’s rich history. In fact, we have so many spectacular events, we filled 16 pages with fantastic festivals, kooky competitions, amazing art shows and so much more – we can barely keep track! Following is our list of summer events that will make your summer sizzle.

Taylor County Maple Festival – Medford April 26, 2014 If you love maple syrup, pancake breakfasts, maple-flavored root beer floats or anything else sweet, visit Taylor County for the second annual Maple Fest. This family festival serves up plenty of sweet activities like cooking contests, maple syrup demonstrations, an all-school parade, craft vendors and plenty more. 3rd Annual Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championship – Dodgeville April 27, 2014 For its third anniversary, the Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championship is grilling up even more melty goodness. Held at the Ley Pavillion in Dodgeville, the Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championship honors National Grilled Cheese Month by selecting the state’s tastiest grilled cheese. Dairy state residents flock to this delicious event where cooks are judged on presentation, taste and style. Horicon Marsh Bird Festival – Horicon May 9-12, 2014 Pack your binoculars for the Horicon Marsh Bird Festival. Hosted during the peak of the spring bird migration, this festival is the perfect time to observe more than 300 various species of birds. Bayfield in Bloom – Bayfield May 16- June 15, 2014 Each year, Bayfield’s month-long celebration of spring invites guests to swoon over 50,000 blooming daffodils, lupine and apple blossoms that bring the town back to life. Lining the shores of Lake Superior, Bayfield in Bloom offers an array of spring-time color and fun activities like a lighthouse tour, hiking, fishing and exquisite dining. The event kicks off with a live Wisconsin Public Radio broadcast of “Garden Talk” on Friday, May 17. HillBilly Hustle – Lancaster May 17, 2014 The Hill Billy Hustle is unlike other races, because this 5k adventure challenges runners to endure farm-themed obstacles throughout the course. This non-competitive race starts and finishes at Vesperman Farms in Lancaster and offers plenty of rewards to finishers. Fresh Paint – Durand May 18-24, 2014 This event brings artists from throughout the state to the small town of Durand, nestled along the Chippewa River, to find inspiration from the beauty of the outdoors for the nature-themed paint competition. World’s Largest Brat Fest – Madison May 23-26, 2014 Madison is cooking up some fun Memorial Day weekend and a whole lot of brats. Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Day – Spooner May 24, 2014 Did you know back in 2010 Wisconsin State Legislature proclaimed the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend be hailed as Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Day? Each year to celebrate this state holiday, the one and only Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum hosts a festival on its front lawn. Each year the town proves its quirky nature and fun spirit by hosting Lawn Mower Races. Just as you’d imagine, drivers race their lawn mowers around a 1/6-mile oval track in a fast-paced competition. JUNE 30th Annual Butterfest – Sparta June 5-8, 2014 Known for its historic award winning butter makers, the town of Sparta celebrates their creamy heritage by hosting Butterfest. 15th Annual Fresh Art Spring Tour – Pepin June 6-8, 2014 Hidden down country roads and tucked in the woods sit some of the finest art studios in Lake Pepin and the Chippewa River Valley. On the Fresh Art Spring Tour, guests are invited to embark on a self-guided road trip to discover local studios and galleries. Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival – Little Chute June 6-8, 2014 Dairy state residents rejoice, it’s time for the annual Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival. Behold a big cheese parade, delectable cheese carving demonstrations, a cheese curd eating contest and much more. The festival started as a response to Rome, ’s claim of having the best cheese in the nation. Little Chute invited the mayor of Rome to the Cheese Festival for a cheese-tasting competition to settle the dispute. Walleye Weekend Festival – Fond du Lac June 6-8, 2014 Walleye Weekend doesn’t just celebrate walleyes; with musical acts, sporting events and family activities, you’re sure to reel in plenty of fun at this festival. Known as one of Wisconsin’s largest festivals, and as a premier fishing competition for anglers from across the nation, this event also raises money for local charities. PrideFest – Milwaukee June 6-8, 2014 Join more than 28,000 guests for one of the nation’s largest gay/lesbian, bisexual and transgender festivals. Held each year at Henry W. Maier Festival Park, the three-day celebration showcases dazzling entertainment from more than 150 local and national bands across eight stages. National Trails Day – Statewide June 7, 2014 Head outdoors on June 7 and enjoy the fresh air because, thanks to the American Hiking Society, hiking trails across the national are free to the public. Outta Sight Kite Flight – Kenosha June 7-8, 2014 This high-flying event kicks off with the grand launch of 300 kites soaring into the sky. This annual celebration also offers flying demonstrations by the Canadian Dream Team and the Chicago Fire. Carp Fest and Wisconsin Carp Fishing Championship – Two Rivers June 7-8, 2014 The country’s best anglers head to Two Rivers, also known as “Carp Town,” for the legendary Wisconsin Carp Fishing Championship and Carp Fest. The annual catch and release tournament produces not only massive carp, but the next Wisconsin State Carp Champion. Visitors can watch from the shoreline as anglers reel in this year’s biggest catch. Prairie Villa Rendezvous – Prairie du Chien June 12-15, 2014 To honor its fur-trading roots from the 1800’s, Prairie Villa Rendezvous annually hosts the largest buckskinners and fur trade re-enactment in the Midwest. 65th Annual Hayward Annual Musky Festival – Hayward June 19-22, 2014 Haywards largest community festival takes time each year to celebrate Wisconsin’s Northwoods and fishing traditions. The Hayward Annual Musky Festival kicks off with a catch and release fishing tournament. 25th Annual Clean Energy & Sustainable Living Fair – Custer June 20-22, 2014 The small town of Custer transforms into an environmental mecca each summer for the annual Energy Fair. Pig in the Park – Whitewater June 20-21, 2014 If you’re looking to enjoy some Wisconsin brews and classic BBQ, look no further than Whitewater for this year’s Pig in the Park. Fete de Fleurs – St. Croix Falls June 21-22, 2014 Fete de Fleurs, meaning “flowering of the vines,” is the annual summer festival at Chateau St. Croix Winery. Wine enthusiasts are invited to spend the afternoon learning about their favorite wines and taking part in wine tasting tours and carriage rides.
