ABSTRACT This book, designed for grades four through eight, is a telecommunications resource that reviews and defines essential Internet terms, looks at critical goals of telecommunications, explains the role of the Internet as it relates to the curriculum, and provides teachers and students with a "road map" to electronic information for each of the 50 United States. The introduction discusses benefits of the Internet for education; equipment needs; accessing the Internet; navigating the monitor; searching Internet sites; and planning, procedural, and assessment suggestions for networking projects. Each state-specific entry includes foul annotated listings of Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) to Worla Wide Web sites highlighting that state's geography, geology, agriculture, industry, cultural and ethnic history, or tourist attractions. Following the listed sites for each state are several student activities that will enhance the Internet journey. An appendix includes a partial list of journals, organizations, and other resources that may prove useful when integrating the Internet or other technology into the curriculum. (AEF)
