THE LIBRARY TODAY

475 Moe Road 518-371-8622 www.cphlibrary.org Clifton Park, NY 12065

From Alex Gutelius, Director

Fifty years ago the Shenendehowa Free Library was opening its doors for the very first time. While the country was experiencing both turmoil and triumph, a little bit of peace could be found behind the Library doors and comfort enjoyed in the escape of fiction, fantasies, mysteries, and romance novels. On April 19, we will celebrate this momentous occasion with a day of festivities, including a family concert featuring Big Fez and the Surfmatics, recognition of some of our community partners, and a reception. All are welcome to join us for this special event.

We have several upcoming events to help celebrate our 50th anniversary. Early in March we will host the very popular mystery writer Louise Penny, thanks to the continued support and generosity of the CPH Friends of the Library. In addition to our April 19th celebration, we will be marking our golden anniversary with golden tickets. There are 50 tickets hidden in adult, teen, and children’s books throughout the Library that can be redeemed for prizes. The 50 Book Challenge continues... keep reading throughout the year to collect prizes and for the chance to win a grand prize. The Library will once again host a Harry Potter day this April—always a favorite among wizards and muggles alike! Finally, be sure to check out our 2nd floor art gallery in April for a look back at some of the fun and exciting moments in the history of the Library. Keep an eye out for more celebratory events throughout the year.

One of the strengths of the Library has been our continued collaboration throughout the years with other organizations in the community. At our anniversary celebration, we will present books donated by our staff to the Captain Youth Shelter, Cheryl’s Lodge, and Helping Hands School. In the coming months, we will once again host the Not So Common Players for a presentation of , a musical loosely based on de Bergerac. We have been a longtime supporter of the NSCP and are pleased to provide this space for the community to enjoy these wonderful performances. We will also host the Real Talk series, presented by CAPteens in partnership with the Shenendehowa Schools. Earlier this year, our staff collaborated with the Graphic Design class at Shen HSE to create a special 50th anniversary logo--we were amazed by the creativity and talent of these students. This commemorative logo will be featured throughout the Library for the remainder of the year. These continued collaborations are a testament not only to the importance of partnerships, but to the great things that can be accomplished when we work together.

On behalf of the Board and staff of the Library, I’d like to thank you for your loyal support throughout the years. You have helped us grow the Library into the place in our community to meet, learn, and do.
