Launch of Silver Deal Active East 2008

Silver Deal Active (SDA) East aims to get older adults more active more often.

SDA East is a programme of free activity sessions for people aged over 60, living in the east end of . It aims to keep older people fit and healthy and give them the opportunity to socialise.

Run in partnership between East Glasgow Community Health and Care Partnership (CHCP), Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) and Culture and Sport Glasgow, regular coach led Silver Deal activity sessions will begin in 20 local venues across the east end from 21st April 2008. See attached list.

Silver Deal is a great opportunity for people who are too frail to take part in more traditional exercise programmes to benefit from building physical activity into their lifestyles. The programme will be tailored around the needs of local residents, ensuring that activities are appropriate to their mobility and activity levels.

The physical activity sessions include weekly 1 hour long sessions which offer a variety of physical activities including Chair Aerobics, Tai Chi, and Pilates. A programme of health talks is also available and active arts sessions are also planned to take place.

A whole host of benefits have been reported by those taking part in Silver Deal, including increased strength, stability and mobility, increased confidence and a more active social life – with many people making friends and enjoying the opportunity to get out of their homes on a regular basis.
