SEATTLE – The Professional Bowlers Association’s 2012-13 Player of the Year race may take a decisive turn during the final two weeks of May when four PBA Tour titles are decided during the GEICO PBA Summer Swing in the Milwaukee. With the Badger, Wolf, Bear and Milwaukee Open titles at stake in the Milwaukee series, a hotly-contested six-man race for PBA Player of the Year honors could quickly change in favor of one of the leading contenders. Or it could move a couple of dark horse candidates into position to challenge for the end-of-season honor. The Player of the Year will be selected in balloting by the PBA membership and members of the bowling news media at the close of the season. Key criteria most voters use are titles won, competition points, earnings, averages and television finals. Major titles won, or championship round appearances, are commonly factors that will tip the scales if voting is close. The 2012-13 Player of the Year competition will be based upon overall performance over an expanded 14-month campaign which began with the 2012 PBA World Series of Bowling IV and will conclude on Dec. 31, 2013, as the PBA heads toward a return to a traditional calendar year schedule beginning on Jan. 1, 2014. Heading into the GEICO PBA Summer Swing, the Player of the Year leaders, in alphabetical order, are:

● Jason Belmonte, Australia: won the 2013 USBC Masters for his only 2012-13 title, leads the PBA Tour in competition points and average (234.97), and ranks third in earnings ($131,586). Finished second in the PBA World Championship and PBA Tournament of Champions, and has three other TV appearances. ● Parker Bohn III, Jackson, N.J.: won the 2012 PBA World Championship for his only 2012-13 title, ranks fifth in competition points, and seventh in earnings ($77,688) and average (228.91). He also finished fourth in the USBC Masters. ● Mika Koivuniemi, Finland/Hartland, Mich.: has won two 2012-13 titles, both on the PBA International Tour (Round1 Japan Cup and Qatar Open), ranks seventh in points, first in earnings ($158,412) and sixth in average (228.99). Koivuniemi also finished fifth in the USBC Masters. ● Scott Norton, Mission Viejo, Calif.: has won two 2012-13 titles (Chameleon Open and Earl Anthony PBA Players Championship), and ranks fourth in points, fifth in earnings ($87,970) and eighth in average (228.85). ● Sean Rash, Montgomery, Ill.: reigning PBA Player of the Year’s only title this season is Kuwait Open. He ranks third in points, second in earnings ($145,472) and third in average (232.58), and is tied with Belmonte with five TV appearances, including finishing third in PBA World Championship and PBA Tournament of Champions. ● Pete Weber, St. Ann, Mo.: won a PBA-record 10th major title in the PBA Tournament of Champions at age 50. Ranks 13th in points, sixth in earnings ($82,306) and fourth in average (229.97).

Heading the “dark horse” list includes of Simpsonville, S.C., a one-time title winner in 2012-13 who ranks sixth in points and fourth in earnings, and non-winner Wes Malott of Pfluger- ville, Texas, who is second in points and average and eighth in earnings. MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 8, 2013) – Down by more than 30 pins halfway through the title match, Lennie Boresch Jr. of Kenosha, Wis., came back to win the PBA50 Miller High Life Classic presented by Columbia 300 by one pin Wednesday at George Pappas’ Victory Lanes.

Boresch won his second career PBA50 Tour title by defeating Mike Henry of Brunswick, Ohio, 211-210, in the title match. In 2012 Boresch won in his PBA50 Tour debut capturing the Senior Sun Bowl In The Villages title.

After Boresch made his run to take the lead heading into the 10th frame, Henry still had a chance to win by throwing a double in the 10th frame. He got the first but threw a seven count on the second ball handing the win to Boresch.

“I figured I was done but then Mike threw a bad shot and then I started thinking, well, you never know what can happen.” Boresch said. “It was kind of early in the match and I looked up at the scoring monitor and saw I could strike out for 232. I didn’t strike out but I put enough strikes together to put a little pressure on Mike.”

It marked the second week in a row that the title match was decided by one pin. Hall of Famer Tom Baker defeated Bryan Goebel 227-226 to win last week’s Greater Birmingham Open.

“I thought Mike would get that double in the 10th frame after he got the first one because he was generally bowling pretty well,” Boresch added. “You just never know in this game.”

Henry, who was also trying for his second career PBA50 Tour title, was hoping to end a three- season winless streak dating back to 2010 when he won the Senior Lake County (Ind.) Open.

Boresch’s win was a confidence builder after a slow start to the season and having thoughts about taking this week off to work on his game.

“I’ll be honest I had some work to do,” Boresch said. “I thought about taking this tournament off and coming back home to work on my game but then I decided after bowling a little better in the second tournament of the season I could maybe work through it and that’s what happened. It’s nice to win again and not have to worry that you’ll be a one-hit wonder.”

In the semifinal, Boresch defeated seven-time PBA Tour and three-time PBA50 Tour winner Hugh Miller of Seattle, 205-191, and Henry defeated Dale Csuhta of Wadsworth, Ohio, 241-138, to advance to the title match.

Boresch’s win makes it four different winners in the first four tournaments of the season. The next stop for the PBA50 Tour will be Capri Lanes in Kettering, Ohio, for the PBA50 Dayton Classic presented by Roto Grip May 13-16.

NATIONAL DEAFby Connie BOWLING Marchione NEWS WAITING FOR RESULTS OF 2013 GREAT LAKES DEAF BOWLING TOURNAMENT INDIANAPOLIS — This writer used to get the yearly results of the granddaddy of all deaf tour- naments, Great Lakes Deaf Bowling Association from its Secretary Treasurer Mike Jasko, Cleve- land, OH. Before Jasko replaced Detroit’s late Harvey Ellerhorst who retired in 2001, Ellerhorst had sent me results since 1983. The last results I got from Jasko were the 2011’s 75th anniversary tournament held at Las Vegas Red Rock Hotel Lanes. I missed the 2012 tournament held in Detroit and found out that Ronnie Zuchezno Jr. of Rochester, NY had replaced Jasko as GLDBA Secretary-Treasurer. While I hope that nothing had happened to Jasko, I was told that I could find everything, results and all on GLDBA’s website. But to me, GLDBA’s website is a reporter’s nightmare. Besides leaving out the city and state of each bowler and not listing the bowlers on each team, one had to figure out who bowled on the actual champion team and also on the handicap winning team. For a reporter it is time accumulating and it is easier by just asking for a copy of the recap score sheet. Without a copy, I had to carefully find and match the bowlers in the All-events results list with VALENCIA LANES 2013 the winning team’s entry number to fill its line up. The last year’s (2012) team handicap champion with the $3500.00 prize was entry number 32, Strike Villian (no city or state listed) with 3296 plus 147 handicap 3443. But I assumed from Detroit because similar team named Strike Villian scored SUMMER LEAGUE SCHEDULE 3297 in the big one at Las Vegas for the top actual (scratch) and 2nd place ($2500.00) in handicap with 3300. Looking in the All-events results list for bowlers with entry numbers 32, I had no problem 23700 LYONS AVE., NEWHALL, CA 91321 (661) 222-9080 finding the first one Cyrano Buckendahl who placed first in All-events with 2110 from 737in team event, 743 in Doubles and 628 in Singles. "The Best Bowlers Come from California!" That's been the california State uSBc's tagline for many years now. You don't make a claim like that unless you can back it up now do you, or else it would come across as just pure arrognace. The statement is true for both men & Women, Boys & girls alike. The list is long, and I would not attempt to name them all as I would certainly overlook many in the short list I would like to discuss here. For the sake of this discussion I would like to focus on the Women of the present and past, but more importantly the Women & girls of Today.

as you likely know the united States trains both an adult Team uSa and Junior Team uSa comprised primarily of high School students and recent graduates under the playing age of 20 (u20). Last year they added a Developmental Team uSa comprised of Boys & girls under the playing age of 15 (u15), to ensure that we were identifying and preparing the Elite athletes of the future.

In 2011 natalie Jimenez from Rowland heights, ca won the Junior gold national championships and automatically became a member of Junior Team uSa. In 2012 Robyn Renslow from Brentwood, ca won the Junior gold national championships, claiming her spot as a memeber of Junior Team uSa, also in 2012 ashley Dunn of Palmdale, ca was Runner-up in the Junior gold u15 national championships and claimed her second year as a member of the Developmental Team uSa.

BringYour Group Here for a natalie has bowled for one of the top collegiate programs in the nation for the past 4 years at the university of central missouri, gabriella mayfield from Lake Isabella, ca just completed her New Experience ••• Sophomore season on the university of central missouri Team, Robyn Resnslow bowled her Freshman season this year with Vanderbilt university as did amanda Fry from antelope, ca, Karlie Loop just competed her Freshman season on the bowling team of another outstanding program at mcKendree university, courtney Schultz just completed her Junior season as a member of the university of central missouri team, Kaitlin mayall from chula Vista, ca just completed her Junior season as a member of the Webber International universities powerful team, and Valerie Riggins just completed her Freshman season on the university of maryland Eastern Shore powerhouse team. understand that these girls weren't simply members of these collegiate bowling teams, they were strong contributors to very successful seasons including national championship births. Some of their individual achievements are included on the website. These are just 8 of the girls from the present day that are having great careers on collegiate bowling teams and having a significant portion of their education funded through athletic scholarships. WITH COSMIC BOWLING LIGHT SHOW! We saw you compete at Pepsi at both the District and State levels, we've evaluated your scores, WINTER HOURS: researched your bowling history on Bowl.com. We FRI–SAT 7:30AM TO 1:00AM want to provide exposure to college coaches for those of you that will be graduating soon. Who will be the next great california female Bowler? You are the future of the sport!

The number of girls competing in leagues and even more so in competitive tournaments has shrunk to an all time low. We don't know why you haven't been coming out to compete and earn scholarship funds now, improve your skills and potentially get athletic scholarships to become a student athlete in the Sport of Bowling. above is a tumbnail of an informational ad contained in this edition of the california Bowling news. get the details from the flyer, go to the website and register (payment in advance is RIVERSIDE LANES oPTIonaL), and join us for a historic event on may 26, 2013 at Keystone Lanes in norwalk, ca.
