After the game the Mount Vernon team, along with the Charlottesville, Virginia Cavaliers (unisex) team, played an exhibition game on the Madison Square Garden floor. “Mount Vernon is known for producing great basketball players and these young people upheld our reputation of being fierce competitors,” said Mayor Ernest D. Davis. “To have our Recreation team win the expedition game gives us added drive to get the Mount Vernon Basketball Center on 4 th Street back in shape so that they have a place to develop their skills,” said Mayor Ernest D. Davis. There was a pre­game shoot­around before the actual New York Liberty game. The exhibition game with the Mount Vernon Recreation Basketball Team followed. The New York Liberty staff escorted Mount Vernon’s young people for the shoot­around to their seats for the game and finally, down to the floor where the game was played. As a special treat, each youth team member was given a uniform for the exhibition, access to dressing rooms, tickets and food vouchers. “We want to thank Chase Bank, the New York Knicks, Westchester Knicks, and organizers from national non­profit KaBOOM! for supporting this wonderful opportunity and memory for our children,” said Recreation Commissioner Darren M. Mahon Boston College University of Maine Chestnut Hill, MA, USA Orono, Maine, USA [email protected] [email protected] Abstract Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an area of organizational study with the potential to dramatically change lives and improve communities across the globe. CSR is a topic with extensive research in regards to traditional corporations; yet, little has been conducted in relation to the professional sports industry. Although most researchers and professionals have accepted CSR has a necessary component in evaluating a firm‟s performance, there is a great deal of variation in how it should be applied and by whom. Professional sports franchises are particularly interesting, because unlike most corporations, their financial success depends almost entirely on community support for the team. This paper employs a mixed-methods approach for examining CSR through the lens of the professional sports industry. The study explores how three professional sports leagues, the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Football Association (NFL), and Major League Baseball (MLB), engage in CSR activities and evaluates the factors that influence their involvement. Then he was called by his agent. Kornet’s agent, Jim Tanner, called him with many offers but none presented the same elements as the two-way contract that the Knicks offered him. As they mulled offers the two “went through all the possible options,” said Kornet, a former Vanderbilt standout who in 2017 set the NCAA record for three-pointers made by a 7-footer. “The two-way really seemed like a good option of staying in the states and making a solid income and also staying in front of a team and hopefully end up being called up in the year.” What is a Two-Way?
