A STUDY OF GANDHIPURAM TERMINUS TRAFFIC AND DESIGN OF RING BUS TERMINAL SYSTEM K.S. Karthikraja*1 *1Student, Department of Civil Engineering, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. ABSTRACT Aim of our project is to study about busy bus terminus in Coimbatore city. Coimbatore is a second largest population city .A rapid development in industry sectors. A dense population causes heavy traffic in bus terminus. Bus transportation mode is a major transportation in city. Our project which deals analysis of bus flow in terminus and suggesting alternate ideas. This project includes bus service percentage, peak hour collection and suggestion of new bus terminus location. KEYWORDS: Terminal, Survey, Ring Bus, Peak hour ,Service percentage. I. INTRODUCTION A bus terminus is a designated place were a bus or starts or ends its scheduled route. The terminus is designated place at the timetable is timed from. Coimbatore is a fast developing city with large number of educational institutions and industries. A bus transportation mode is a major transportation in the city. Large no of vehicles causes heavy traffic in city. Traffic congestion is a main problem which causes traffic jam and accidents. The main reason for traffic is . Bus terminus plays a major role in city traffic. Our project which study about gandhipuram bus terminus, location and suggesting alternative idea for the traffic problem. The project which includes bus analysis and peak hour collection and suggestion of new bus terminus location. Dwell time comparison and bus service percentage graphs are used to analyse the . Bus service percentage which difference between government buses and private buses in percentage. II. METHODOLOGY A one day survey held on gandhipuram bus terminus. 2.1 Peak hour analysis A peak hour analysis graph plotted by every one hour bus flow. 2.2 Bus service percentage Difference between government buses and private buses. 2.3 Suggestion of new patterns Introducing new ideas to reduce the traffic flow in terminus and city SURVEY (TRAFFIC) →ANALYSIS (GRAPHS) →DESIGN OF NEW TERMINUS

Fig-1: Peak hour chart The graph x axis represents time and y axis represents bus count on one hour inwards and outwards of gandhipuram bus stand. From the graph we can understand morning 7am-8 am and evening 5pm to 6 pm are the peak hour of gandhipuram bus terminus. Heavy rush and congestion more at this period. and also traffic congestion occur at gandhipuram main junction signal. IV. BUS SERVICE PERCENTAGE

Fig-2: Pie chart represents the bus service percentage By one day survey we can see 90 % of government buses were operated and 10 % of private buses operated in gandhipuram bus terminal. V. RING BUS TERMINAL Here we introduce the ring bus terminal system for Coimbatore city, which helps to reduce traffic congestions and reduce the dwell time in gandhipuram bus terminus.

Fig-3: Google earth image of coimbatore city 5.1 RING 1 Mini bus should be provided. Its should be operated in 5 kilo meter radius circle. In this circle mini bus connects the ring bus stand and operated interior areas. This bus should have 5 minute standing in bus stand and breaks should not be allowed inside bus stand 5.2 RING 2 Here minibus and main buses which connects gandhipram bus stand only. The time should be 5-10 mins allowed. Main bus – ring bus terminus to gandhipuram only. Mini bus – only. 5.3 RING 3 Here we see the outer area main buses connects the four terminals as nearest. Main buses are used here to connect outer area and outer terminals. The buses explore more times than now. This helps more than 4 times than normal trip route. 5.4 FOUR RING BUS TERMINAL SARAVANAMPATTI CODDISIA KUNNIYAMUTTUR SAIBABA COLONY These four places were connect as a ring which easier to reach gandhipuram central terminal. The idea is constructing 4 new terminal at this places. Which helps to reduce the flow in gandhipuram busstand. VI. CONCLUSION  By Analysing of gandhipuram bus terminal we found peak hour in terminus , congestion, platform lackness and flow of buses.  The graph and pie charts used for analysis and used for alternate suggestions. www.irjmets.com @International Research Journal of Modernization in Engineering, Technology and Science [484] e-ISSN: 2582-5208 International Research Journal of Modernization in Engineering Technology and Science Volume:02/Issue:06/June-2020 www.irjmets.com  New suggestion were is by this project “RING BUS TERMINUS”  Ring bus terminus which reduce the future traffic and connecting many new area for bus circulation.  The ring terminus helps to connect near city.  Internal city bus traffic will we low.  Dwell time is minimized in gandhipuram terminus.  Economical growth will develop by new bus terminals.  This ring terminus helps for future extensions also.  Route patterns and bus patterns also suggested.
