Monaco confirmed as UEFA Super Cup venue for further three years

Stade Louis II will host 2006, 2007, 2008 UEFA Super Cup matches

UEFA today confirmed the decision taken at the recent UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Manchester, to continue for a further three years with as host venue for the European season’s kick-off match, the UEFA Super Cup, between the UEFA Champions League holders and the winners of the UEFA Cup. This means the match will be held in the Stade Louis II in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Other bidders to host the match, and its associated events, were Geneva and Barcelona.

The Principality of Monaco will therefore also continue to host the traditional European pre- season kick-off events including the draws for the UEFA Champions League group stage and UEFA Cup first round, the season awards from the previous European club football season, and the traditional European Club Football Gala dinner.

The Principality of Monaco is fully committed to the event and will continue to supply promotional investment towards it, as well as the infrastructure and assistance needed in staging such a variety of events at a very busy time in principality’s tourist season.

Commenting on the renewed agreement UEFA CEO, Lars-Christer Olsson said:

“We are delighted to be extending our agreement for a further three years, to hold the kick-off for the European club football season and the UEFA Super Cup in the Principality of Monaco. It has always been a most prestigious and welcoming venue for the start of the European football season and we are convinced that, with a few alterations to the programme of activities, we can further increase the stature of this traditional event.”

Michel Pastor, President of AS Monaco, said of the news:

“We are delighted at this news, all the more so since we know the care and professionalism that UEFA puts into taking such decisions.

“We will do our utmost to ensure the continued success of this international gathering, and thereby continue to be a credit to the Principality of Monaco.”
