A LETTER FROM OUR CHIEF VOLUNTEER OFFICER AND CEO

PLANTING THE FOUNDATIONS Dear Y Friends, OF OUR COMMUNITY FOR OVER 100 YEARS! Throughout the midcoast, countless people know the Penobscot Bay YMCA. Because of your support to our Annual Support Campaign, Camp Scholarship But there’s so much more to our Y than one might think.

Campaign and annual Boat Auction, we were able to raise $365,807 From exercise to education, from volleyball to volunteerism, from preschool to to give everyone the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. preventive health, our Y doesn’t just strengthen our bodies. It strengthens our community. THANK YOU. Our Y is so much more than a gym. It’s a cause, dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

For generations, we’ve been proud to help our neighbors learn, grow, and thrive. Yet we’re called to grow stronger together.

Our communities face new challenges that create a greater need than ever for the work we do each day. Fortunately, where some see obstacles, we see opportunities for our members, volunteers, and staff to make a true difference.

But we need your philanthropic support to make it happen. Together, we can achieve so much more.

Best regards,

Jill Delano Chief Volunteer Officer

Melissa Bellew President/CEO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHTS Giving children a safe place to discover and sprout. We strive for efficiency...leveraging every dollar and ensuring that the Y is affordable “My daughter, Rory, was 16 months old when we moved across the country to midcoast Maine. I work from home and and accessible to all. need flexible, dependable compassionate care for her. I found it at the Y. I’m so impressed with Miss Meredith, the head teacher in Rory’s room. She encourages creativity and self-reliance and is always there for a hug or a game of hide and seek. I’m in awe of her seemingly endless supply of patience and love. And...these kids are learning about Georgia O’Keefe and Jackson Pollack! I’m also grateful they get outside play most days. The Early Learning program 2017 Financial Report offers gymnastics, swimming and rock climbing as integrated parts of my daughter’s “school” day. Fiscal year ending December 2017

Rory is building resiliency, strength and knows she always has a lap to cuddle in when she needs it. When I pick her up, she’s deeply engaged in whatever she’s doing and full of joy. Those are signs we’ve REVENUE found a good “home away from home.”

My interactions with the Early Learning Program Director, Meredith Gutheinz, have also been stellar. She is hands on, truly listens, communicates perfectly Programs $1,965,000 6% and clearly cares. I admit I expect a lot from a childcare program. Membership $1,622,000 This team has exceeded my expectations. 15% Government Grants $329,000 33% I feel so lucky to have landed in this part of Maine.
