Now, by chance, they meet in a train station, in between two journeys. He is arriving, she is leaving. They have eighty minutes to re-evaluate their lives, and come face to face with their truths, regrets and memories. This is their last chance.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

The two main characters in Long Time No See had been the subject of a previous screenplay I wrote in the early 2000s. It was a love story, set in the then-present, at the seaside hospital of Berck-sur-Mer. The film was never produced, but now, nine years after their earlier brief episode, the two characters meet, by chance, at the Gare d'Austerlitz. Their encounter at this train station, in between two journeys, was ideal to set the immersive principle of long takes by submitting the characters to the urgency of living on edge.

I have found that strong moments' intensity are increased tenfold by the rarity of the event, and by the aura of the person and the little time available, as happened with Vilmos Zsigmond or for example. I have never felt so alive as when I was running out of time. I would like the film to give that feeling. Life slips through their fingers. And the prospect of the train leaving forces them to accelerate more and more.

Laëtitia Eïdo, Pierre Rochefort, with Ronald Guttman and Estéban, have agreed to play the game of maximum risk. They have surpassed themselves and the intelligence of their performances overwhelms me with admiration, as well as that of the formidable flying film crew that has never wavered, galvanized by the challenge of uninterrupted takes where no one cheats. Even though everything was written with precision, the actors brought their personality and sensitivity to enhance every moment. Everyone was at the service of the film. Thank you to all of you.

Pierre Filmon Director of photography and active member of the A.F.C. since 2013, Olivier Chambon likes to work on fiction films as much as on documentaries. This is his third collaboration with Pierre Filmon. After having photographed the Hungarian sequence, he filmed several shots in including some interviews, for "Close encounters with Vilmos Zsigmond" (Jerry Schatzberg and John Boorman). Olivier treated the uninterrupted takes of "Long Time No See" as if they were a documentary, as well as those of "Masque à Maman", Pierre's next short film.

For the past few years, Olivier has enjoyed continuing his collaboration on the films he photographs, also doing the color grading.
