On Demand is free- to-guest programming (movies and shows) from networks the property already subscribes to. Guests do not have to log-in, subscribe or authenticate their at-home accounts. CINEMA equipment is required for On Demand functionality. Is DIRECTV CINEMA available for new and existing properties? n DIRECTV CINEMA is now available for both new and existing DRE Plus properties. What is required to enable DIRECTV CINEMA? n In addition to the existing equipment for DRE Plus, DIRECTV CINEMA requires a dedicated VPN connection, integration with the PMS, the video caching server and USB drives for the H25. What is required to enable On Demand? n Same requirements as for DIRECTV CINEMA and property must subscribe to networks offering On Demand for hotels. Do I need to have HR24 HD-DVR receivers in order to install DIRECTV CINEMA? n DIRECTV CINEMA supports both the HR24 and H25 with only the H25 needing a specified USB drive for DVR capability. What support documents are available for DIRECTV CINEMA? n DRE User Manual now incorporates information on DIRECTV CINEMA. In addition, a System Setup and Configuration document is available on DREsupport.com. What is the cost of DIRECTV CINEMA? n DIRECTV will provide the required equipment ($6,000 value) for FREE. Starting on Nov. 15th, 2016 the first 200 qualifying new DRE Plus hotels will receive free DIRECTV CINEMA equipment which includes the Caching Server, USB sticks and distributor licensing (up to 250 receivers) and distributor setup costs required for the DIRECTV CINEMA product installation (no standard DRE Plus equipment will be included in this offer). Internet connection & PMS integration required. Offer ends May 15, 2017. Who do I call for technical support after install? n SkyWeb and [email protected] will continue to be the primary point of contact for all DRE Support issues. In addition to SkyWeb, DIRECTV has partnered with Cisco to provide real-time proactive monitoring of the DIRECTV CINEMA video caching server and will directly inform the dealer of any issues How will disputes be handled? n We have refined the order process, and will honor 100% credits for technical issues and other disputes. All credit request will be handled by DIRECTV CARE at 888-388-2505. What is the cost per movie? n DIRECTV CINEMA HD titles mirror residential price-points starting at $5.99 What is the cost for On Demand? n There is no additional cost. The property must have the DIRECTV CINEMA equipment and subscribe to one of the premium networks in order to access their content library. Is there Revenue Sharing? n Not direct to property. Our programming agreements are structured in a way that does not allow rev share to the property. Maintaining the residential price points reduces the attractiveness of a revenue sharing model. In addition, our goal is to increase the customer experience via content options while reducing hotel bandwidth needs. FOR SALES PERSONNEL USE ONLY. NOT FOR PUBLICATION OR CUSTOMER DISTRIBUTION. ©2015 AT&T Intellectual Property. All rights reserved. All other marks are the property of their respective owners. 2 / 4 FACT SHEET DIRECTV CINEMA® WITH ON DEMAND FOR HOTELS Will the service impact the hotel’s wireless or broadband network? n Impact is minimal. The service leverages an on-property caching server using the coax network eliminating video over Wi-Fi traffic. In addition, since each movie is served locally only a 3Mbps broadband connection is needed to refresh the movies on the server. In comparison, Netflix taxes the Wi-Fi and broadband network for EACH request even if the same movie is requested. Is PMS and a dedicated VPN required to access DIRECTV CINEMA? n Yes What PMS systems are currently compatible with the system? n DRE Plus can now interface with 100+ of the most popular PMS systems, including: Hilton OnQ, Starwood Galaxy, and Micros are currently available. Coming soon: Comtrol, Northwind’s Maestro, InQuest’s Room Master, MSI’s Night Vision, and PAR Springer-Miller Can guests set programs to record or pause live TV? n Yes, these capabilities are available on our DVR enabled receiver, HR24, but are now also available on our HD receivers, H25, with the inclusion of a specified USB drive that accompanies DIRECTV CINEMA. DVR Functionality is available in every room, but how do you erase the recorded content after each guest? n It is interfaced with the PMS and wiped upon checkout. New incoming guests will not be able to view the previous guest’s DIRECTV CINEMA purchases or TV recordings. It costs me $10k and I don’t make any money? n ROI will be generated via reduction of network streaming / increase in guest satisfaction A USB drive is required for full DVR functionality. What is the cost of the USB drive? n There is no cost for the USB drive Regarding the USB, is it paired to the Set top Box (STB)? n No. The USB is not paired to the STB. If the STB needs to be replaced the USB can be reused. How many hours of storage is available on the USB drive for H25s? n The USB drive will store roughly 6-8 hours of content. If a guest steals the USB device can they watch the recordings at home? n No. All content is encrypted and only a DIRECTV CINEMA authorized H25 receiver can decrypt the content. In addition, a tamper proof security stick is used deterring theft. Can a guest use his or her own USB? n No.

  • Why Youtube Buffers: the Secret Deals That Make—And Break—Online Video When Isps and Video Providers Fight Over Money, Internet Users Suffer
Why YouTube buffers: The secret deals that make—and break—online video When ISPs and video providers fight over money, Internet users suffer. Lee Hutchinson has a problem. My fellow Ars writer is a man who loves to watch YouTube videos— mostly space rocket launches and gun demonstrations, I assume—but he never knows when his home Internet service will let him do so. "For at least the past year, I've suffered from ridiculously awful YouTube speeds," Hutchinson tells me. "Ads load quickly—there's never anything wrong with the ads!—but during peak times, HD videos have been almost universally unwatchable. I've found myself having to reduce the quality down to 480p and sometimes even down to 240p to watch things without buffering. More recently, videos would start to play and buffer without issue, then simply stop buffering at some point between a third and two-thirds in. When the playhead hit the end of the buffer—which might be at 1:30 of a six-minute video—the video would hang for several seconds, then simply end. The video's total time would change from six minutes to 1:30 minutes and I'd be presented with the standard 'related videos' view that you see when a video is over." Hutchinson, a Houston resident who pays Comcast for 16Mbps business-class cable, is far from alone. As one Ars reader recently complained, "YouTube is almost unusable on my [Verizon] FiOS connection during peak hours." Another reader responded, "To be fair, it's unusable with almost any ISP." Hutchinson's YouTube playback has actually gotten better in recent weeks.

Redbox rents and sells digital video disks (“DVDs”) to consumers through innovative, consumer-friendly means: automated, self-service kiosks located in various retail outlets. Consumer demand for Redbox has exploded since the company’s inception in 2002, primarily due to Redbox’s efficient means of providing consumers with low-cost, easily accessible new motion picture releases on the day those DVDs become available to the general public. 2. Under the guise of a “Revenue Sharing Agreement” (attached as Ex. A), Defendants seek to eliminate the low-cost rental alternative for consumers. Specifically, Defendants want to: prohibit Redbox from renting or selling Universal DVDs until after 45 days from when they otherwise become available to the public; limit the number of copies of Universal DVDs that Redbox kiosks can stock; and require that Redbox ultimately destroy all of Case 1:08-cv-00766-UNA Document 1 Filed 10/10/2008 Page 2 of 18 its copies of Universal DVDs so that previously-viewed DVDs cannot be sold at a low price to consumers. To drive home its “take it or leave it” proposition, Defendants will terminate Redbox’s two distributors (VPD and Ingram) if they continue supplying Redbox with Universal DVDs or providing other services to Redbox – unless Redbox forsakes its customers and participates in Defendants’ attempts to decrease the supply of copyrighted DVDs, reduce consumer choice in the marketplace, and increase prices that consumers pay during tough economic times.

Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes. During this period, Netflix adapted DVD distribution to the Internet, revolutionizing the way viewers receive, watch, and choose content, and built a brand reputation on consumer-centric innovation.

  • List of Directv Channels (United States)
List of DirecTV channels (United States) Below is a numerical representation of the current DirecTV national channel lineup in the United States. Some channels have both east and west feeds, airing the same programming with a three-hour delay on the latter feed, creating a backup for those who missed their shows. The three-hour delay also represents the time zone difference between Eastern (UTC -5/-4) and Pacific (UTC -8/-7). All channels are the East Coast feed if not specified. High definition Most high-definition (HDTV) and foreign-language channels may require a certain satellite dish or set-top box. Additionally, the same channel number is listed for both the standard-definition (SD) channel and the high-definition (HD) channel, such as 202 for both CNN and CNN HD. DirecTV HD receivers can tune to each channel separately. This is required since programming may be different on the SD and HD versions of the channels; while at times the programming may be simulcast with the same programming on both SD and HD channels. Part time regional sports networks and out of market sports packages will be listed as ###-1. Older MPEG-2 HD receivers will no longer receive the HD programming. Special channels In addition to the channels listed below, DirecTV occasionally uses temporary channels for various purposes, such as emergency updates (e.g. Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike information in September 2008, and Hurricane Irene in August 2011), and news of legislation that could affect subscribers. The News Mix channels (102 and 352) have special versions during special events such as the 2008 United States Presidential Election night coverage and during the Inauguration of Barack Obama.
