Oracle and OMRON Join Forces to Deliver New Environmental Sustainability Solution

New Offering Aimed at Helping Companies Reduce Energy Consumption and Carbon Dioxide Emissions

Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco – October 12, 2009

News Facts • As companies continue to look for ways to drive sustainable initiatives, protect the environment and reduce their carbon footprint, Oracle and OMRON are collaborating to create a new solution designed to track energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in manufacturing and non-manufacturing facilities. • OMRON, the world leader in sensors and control devices for manufacturing companies, provides various equipment, systems and solutions that promote environmentally friendly operations by helping customers visualize their energy usage. Factories that use OMRON's sensors and control devices are able to collect energy consumption information on the factory floor at the equipment and individual device level. • A long-time Oracle applications and technology customer, OMRON is contributing to the development of this solution and plans to implement it at an initial site with an eye toward deploying it throughout their global factories and offices. • Based upon the combination of OMRON's sensors and Oracle® Manufacturing Operations Center , this new application will merge real-time energy consumption data collected by OMRON sensors and other types of energy meters with production data collected from shop floor control systems and equipment. • This offering is also designed to deliver an environmental data repository that can be leveraged as a certifiable information source for carbon accounting and greenhouse gas reporting, as well as energy management initiatives. • At Oracle OpenWorld today, Manish Modi, Oracle Vice President of Development will join executives from OMRON to preview this latest product in a session titled, “Visibility into your Energy Usage and Carbon Footprint: Oracle Manufacturing Operations Center.” The session is being held at 4:00 p.m. PDT in Moscone West, Room 3002/3004.

Comprehensive Insight to Drive Efficient and Sustainable Operations • Environmental sustainability goals can be overwhelming for companies if key metrics such as energy usage and greenhouse gas information are not identified and monitored on an ongoing basis. In addition, monitoring such usage and associating it with specific products, equipment and processes can yield the insights needed to drive down energy consumption and save money. • Within Oracle’s new application, OMRON's sensors will collect data on electricity usage from equipment, factory lines, air conditioners and lighting throughout customers’ operations. The information will then be aggregated and contextualized to production data in the new Oracle solution. • Companies who utilize this product can expect to: o Benefit from a unified production and environmental data repository that allows users to analyze and correlate energy consumption to operating conditions and identify areas for improvement. o Create strategic plans for reducing energy consumption and associated carbon dioxide emissions. o Utilize operational dashboards with KPIs related to energy usage and carbon dioxide emissions alongside traditional production KPIs such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness. This will allow users to maintain actual versus planned energy usage while controlling the optimum level of production output. o Enable a reduction in the total cost of ownership with more accurate energy accounting and overhead allocation. o Gain access to multiple methods for data collection. In addition to connecting to meters and energy sensors, customers can also enter data manually or import data from Excel templates and other third party sources. In places where sensors are not available, the solution will provide a library of estimation, allocation and aggregation formulae to calculate energy consumption.

Supporting Quotes • “Like many environmentally conscientious companies today, we want to do more than just monitor our energy consumption and emissions – we want to dramatically reduce them. We look forward to finally achieving that goal once we’ve implemented this new application from Oracle,” said Mr. Masaki Teshigahara, Senior General Manager of OMRON’s Environmental Solutions Business H.Q. “We are excited to be working closely with Oracle to bring this first-of-its kind solution to the market and believe it will be the foundation for our environmental sustainability management initiatives. With the combination of OMRON’s technology, our know-how in reducing energy usage, and this new Green solution from Oracle, we expect to save more than 10 percent of our annualized energy bills.” • “Oracle is committed to furthering our customers’ green and sustainability initiatives and at the same time helping them save money,” said Oracle Senior Vice President, Applications Development, Rick Jewell. “We are creating a completely new solution that will transform the way manufacturing and non-manufacturing facilities manage and monitor their energy consumption. We anticipate that this product will have a profound impact on our customers as well as the environment.”
