It will be SWB’s first trip to Worcester in franchise history, with six games scheduled 2019 results: Lehigh Valley, 11-7 with the Worcester Red Sox at the brand-new Polar Park. The RailRiders also have one other 12-game, 13-day road trip, from August 17-29 against all-time series: RailRiders Lead 116-104 Worcester and Lehigh Valley. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre hosts three 12-game homestands throughout the season. OH WHAT A RELIEF IT IS!: Since Kyle Barraclough relieved Albert Abreu in the sixth inning of the RailRiders game at Buffalo on Friday, June 11, railriders at a glance the SWB bullpen has performed at an amazing clip. In the last 14 days, the bullpen has combined for a 1.82 ERA (13 ER/64.1 IP), while allowing just 44 hits, 19 walks and recording 79 strikeouts. The current stretch has lowered SWB’s bullpen ERA to 2.94 on the season, the seventh-best in all of minor league baseball, and third-best in Triple-A East (1st: Buffalo, 2.81). RailRiders closerLuis García leads all minor leaguers with 11 saves 2021 regular season: 30-13 on the season, and is one of only three pitchers with double-digit saves this year.

Leib Syracuse University Department of Geography Syracuse, NY 13244 Within the past five years a number of cities in the northeast have explored the possibility of building baseball parks in order to attract minor league baseball franchises. In New York State, Binghamton, Buffalo, and Brooklyn have examined the economic feasibility of building their own stadia. Such studies have also be carried out in Scranton, Pennsylvania; Springfield, Massachusetts; and Wilmington, Delaware. The main public sector expense involved in trying to attract a minor league baseball franchise is the building and maintenance of a baseball stadium. However, Okner argues that stadia and arenas occupied by major league franchises do not generally operate at a profit. 1 Rees, Greytak, and Leib make the same argument for minor league ballparks.2 One reason why minor league stadia do not generally operate at a profit is that attendance at games is substantially lower than in the major leagues. In 1988, for example, the average major league team drew over two million fans. At the highest level of the minor leagues (AAA classification) the average team drew just under 320,000 spectators, while at the middle level (AA classification), the average team drew about 150,000 fans. 3 Given the possible low return from attendance receipts, it is not surprising that a city government may hesitate to build an expensive stadium. Although a stadium that is intended for a minor league team generally loses money, a baseball franchise does bring benefits to a community.

So the White Sox Minor League catching coordinator studied some of Collins' work as he played for the University of Miami in the College World Series. Orton immediately liked what he saw. "I thought his hands work good, and he blocked the ball pretty well. He doesn't look stiff back there," said Orton, speaking about Collins during this week's hitters' minicamp at Camelback Ranch. "So right away I was pleasantly surprised. "Everyone talked about his bat, which is his strength. But I think he's going to be a very good catcher.
