HI EVERYBODY!

Korketrekkeren is Now Open The snow came late this winter, but Oslo’s most popular toboggan run is finally open for the season! Korktrekkeren starts at and ends at metro station. The run is two kilometres long, and the elevation drop is 255 metres. One non-stop ride takes about ten minutes, and the metro from Midtstuen to Frognerseteren takes you back to the top in 13 minutes. Sled and equipment rental is available from Skiservice and Akeforeningen and costs approx. 80-150 NOK per person. Akeforeningen’s place is located by the parking lot below Frognerseteren café, and Skiservice is found 100 metres below Frognerseteren station. It is also possible to use your own sled. The use of Korketrekkeren is free. To get to Korketrekkeren from the city centre take metro number 1 to the end station, Frognerseteren. Korketrekkeren starts right below the station. There are also parking spaces at Frognerseteren, but they fill up quickly, so taking the metro is recommended. Photo: visitoslo.com

Ski Day, January 30 Cross-country skiing is a fun activity for all the family. As the national sport of Norway, it is one of the most popular winter leisure pursuits. A wonderful way to experience the surrounding landscapes of Oslo. INN will repeat its successful ski day on Saturday 30st January. As in previous years, it will be held in Øvresetertjern, near with training from professional instructors. They will teach the basic skills needed to get going on cross-country skis. Both children and adults are welcome! A separate and invitation will follow.

Book Launch, Litteraturhuset, January 16 at 17.00 Book launch for “Boone”, by Robert Philip Crane. The author will read from and discuss his novel, “Boone”. He will also sign and sell copies of the book. Robert Philip Crane was born and raised in the U.S. and now lives and teaches in Oslo. Spanish Guitar & Symphony, Oslo Konserthus, January 16 at 15.00 Concert with guitarist Rolando Saad, who will perform Joaquín Rogrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. Concierto de Aranjuez was written for classical guitar and orchestra in 1939. It is Rodrigo’s best-known work by far, and established him as one of the most significant Spanish composers of the twentieth century. Lyden av Prøysen, Nasjonal Jazzscene, January 16 at 21.00 Lyden av Prøysen (‘The Sound of Prøysen’) is a commissioned work written in 2014 for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the immensely popular Norwegian writer and troubadour Alf Prøysen. On Saturday, a toned-down and slightly revised version will be performed at Nasjonal Jazzscene to show the beauty, melancholy and emotional richness of Prøysen’s universe. Christopher Paul Stelling, Buckleys, January 16 at 22.00 Christopher Paul Stelling is not the first to enter stage with not much more than an old guitar and the sound of his foot stomping the floor. What sets him apart from everyone else, however, is an incredible imagination that conjures up stories unlike anything you have ever heard before. His ingenuity also shows through his fingers, as he goes from playing country blues to flamenco and claw hammer banjo on his faithful friend Brownie - an old nylon string guitar who as accompanied him on travels all across the globe over the last few years. Historical Light Show, Fredriksten Festning, Monday - Sunday at 19.00 This exciting light show on the walls of Fredriksten fortress takes us through Halden’s history, starting in 1644. With the help of actors, animations and powerful sound effects, you will get a short but effective description of events, such as the construction, warring, fires, daily life and modern times. The experience lasts approximately 12 minutes and uses the old stone walls of the fortress as display screens. There is a certain chronology to the events shown, and you may notice a number on top of the picture representing the year the event takes place. Vollgravene Winter Classic 2016, Gamlebyen, January 16 at 10.00 Welcome to a winter day festival at Gamlebyen in Fredrikstad! All can try their hand on the curling rink with real curling stones. There will also be speed skating, as well as a toboggan carousel on ice. Local hockey legends will compete: you can watch a game between Stjernen and Sparta U12 and penalty shootouts among former Stjernen keepers. There will be plenty of space for both hikers and hockey enthusiasts and sales of food and beverages. Sharpening and rental of ice skates will also be available. The day will finish with skate-in sessions of classic cartoons and Sonja Henie’s movies on the big screen. Find your ice skates and join the party! Tickets can be purchased at the entrance.
