Chennai

SMS Advisory: Day 1(02.10.2021) to Day 5(06.10.2021): Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur isolated places over Tamilnadu. Livestock Advisory 1 To avoid the occurrence of milk fever in dairy cattle, feeding of supplementary mineral mixture of 15- 30 gms is recommended during pregnancy. 2 To prevent scabies in rabbit all in all out system has to be followed with adequate ectoparasicide spraying. 3 The new born calves have to be provided with luke warm water to prevent cold stress during rainy season. 4 Check out for aflotoxicosis in concentrate feed. Addition of toxin binders in feed would prevent this to some extent. 5 Luke warm water splashing and washing in pig barn would reduce the incidence of E.coli infection in pigs during rainy season. 6 Swill fed fattener pigs should be checked out for sanitary swill feeding since spoilt swill will cause intestinal disorder. 7 The rabbits which suffered summer infertility could be allowed to breeding due to the conducive season prevailing. 8 Provision of 5% shell grit to layers improves the egg quality.

Kancheepuram

As per IMD Extended Range Forecast for the period of 06.10.2021 to 12.10.2021 Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry region may likely to receive higher rainfall than the rainfall. On 02.10.2021 - 06.10.2021 Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over Kancheepuram & . Before transplanting of rice seedling in main field farmers is advised apply 10 kg/ac of micronutrient mixture with vermicompost. Farmers are advised to crate proper drainage facility in vegetable crops to avoid stagnation in vegetable fields.

Crop(Varieties) Crop Specific Advisory RICE Before transplanting of rice seedlings farmers are advised to tip the seedlings in Bacillus subtilis bio control agent 2 gram/liter solution. Horticulture(Va Horticulture Specific Advisory rieties) BRINJAL There are possibilities of red spider mite infestation in brinjal crop. For management farmers are advised to spray wettable sulphur 50 WP 2g/lit. There are possibilities of mealybug infestation in brinjal. Farmers are advised to take BRINJAL necessary plant protection measures with the advice of horticultural officer. The forecasted weather may cause Anthracnose disease in cucurbit crops. For BOTTLE GOURD management farmers are advised to spray Mancozeb 2g/lit or Carbendazim 0.5g/lit of water. Live Live Stock Specific Advisory Stock(Varieties) Farmers are advised to vaccinate their dairy animals against FMD disease in nearby COW veterinary dispensary to protect them against disease incidence. Farmers are advised to provide 30-50 grams of mineral mixture to diary animals to improve the milk yield. Farmers are advised to provide mineral block to sheep and goats to improve the grate GOAT rate. Farmers may deworm and detick the goat and sheep before monsoon to protect them from disease. Fishieries(Varie Fishieries Specific Advisory ties) The forecasted weather may alter the pH level of fish and prawn ponds. For management farmers are advised to go for application of 100-200 kg of lime. Due to INLAND rain forecasted for upcoming five days, erosion of fish /prawn pond dykes increases turbidity of water and become muddy which affects photosynthetic activity and it may lets to depletion of oxygen level. To avoid this farmer are advised to grow grass and other plants on the slope as well as top of the crest. The Water transparency/Plankton density may be maintained up to 30-45 cm. Garlic paste 4-6% may be provided along with feed to enhance food intake and improve COMMON FISH health status. Due to low temperature and cloudy weather in upcoming five days, the morning feed may be delayed for one hour or more. The fish/prawn feeds may be stored in better condition to avoid fungal infection due to forecasted humid weather. Poultry(Varietie Poultry Specific Advisory s) CHICK Farmers are advised to provide proper brooding facility to chicks to avoid the mortality. CHICKEN Farmers are advised to vaccinate their poultry birds against ranikhet disease in nearby veterinary dispensary.

Villupuram

Agricultural advisory Rice: 1. In paddy field black bug infestation is seen in some par (Kurinjipadi block) of . The bug sucks the sap from the base of the tillers, as a result the plants aregiving “bug burn” symptoms. The earheads become chaffy. The following integrated to manage the black bug. Establish light traps to attract matured bugs. Flood the fields to kill eggs and young ones. The stubbles remaining in the field after harvest should be ploughed in situ to kill eggs of young ones. If the infestation exceeds economic threshold level (5 bugs/hill) spray acephate 625 g/ha or neem seed kernel extract 5 %. Avoid paddy cultivation with same varieties year after year. Sugarcane: 2. Due to prevailing weather condition changes of sugarcane Top shoot borer infection. To control apply carbofuran 3% CG @ 66 kg/ha or chlorantraniliprole 0.4% G @ 18.75 kg/ha or chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC 375 ml/ha. Groundnut: 3. Due to prevailing weather condition changes of groundnut leaf miner infection. To control spray Dimethiate 30 EC 660 ml/ha or methyl demeton 25% EC 1000 ml/ha with 500 lit of water. Maize: 4. Prevailing weather condition is favorable for fall army worm infestation in maize crop. To control spraychlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC @ 0.4 ml/lit or flubendiamide 20 WG 0.5 g/lit at early stage (15-20 days) fllowed by azadirachtin 1% 2 ml/lit and spinetoram 11.70 SC 0.5 ml/litre or emamectin benzoate 5 SG 0.4 g/lit at 35-40 days. Cumbu: 5. Due to prevailing weather conditions favourable for shoot fly infestation in cumbu. To control spray methyl demeton 25 EC 500 ml/ha or dimethoate 30 EC 500 ml/ha. Black gram: 6. To reduce the root rot infection in Blackgram, Bacillus subtilis 1 kg/ha + Trichoderma, Aspergillus 1 kg/ha + Farm yard manure 25 1 kg/ha Spray the first time during the last plough and the second time after the first weeding (20- 25 DAS). Cotton: 7. Due to prevailing weather condition there are chances of cotton green leaf hopper infestation. To control spray thiamethoxam 25 WG 0.6 gram/litre or imidacloprid 17.8 SL 0.6 ml/litre. Tapioca: 8. Prevailing weather condition is favorable for mealy bug infestation in tapioca crop. To control spray fluonicamid 50 % WG 60 g/acre or spirotetramat 150 OD 250 ml/acre or thiamethoxan 25 WDG 40 g/acre.

Thiruvannamalai

To control leaf minor in groundnut, spray Malathian 50 EC 1.25 litre/ha. Tikka leaf spot, spray Mancozeb @ 2g / litre. Brinjal: 3. To control shoot borer/ fruit borer, spray Azadirachtin 1% EC (10000 ppm) 3ml/litre or Flubendiamide 20WDG 7.5g/10 litre. Papaya: 4. To control papaya yellow mosaic virus, spray Imidachloprid @ 0.5 ml / litre Guava: 5. To control guava mealy bug, spray profenophos @ 2ml / litre + neem oil 5 ml.

Thiruvallur

From the extended range forecast, Above normal rainfall and normal temperature expected for the period of 6th to 9th October over Tamil Nadu. 1.farmers are advised to harvest the mature crop and maintain 8-12% moisture content for safe storage; 2.based on soil moisture provide irrigation to the crop. Crop(Varieties) Crop Specific Advisory RICE Samba season- Rice-Nursery stage- Green plant hopper- Broadcast carbofuran 3% CG 3.5 kg in 20 cents and Maintain 2.5 cm of water in the nursery. Samba season- Rice- Transplanting and Tillering stage-1. Stem bore- Spray Azadirachtin 0.03% 400 ml (Or) Flubendiamide 20% WG 50g. (Or) ; 2.Whorl maggots- RICE Spray Cartap hydrochloride 4% G 7.5-10 kg (or) Spray Fipronil 5% SC 400- 600 g per acre in 200 litres of wate; 3.Algae growth- To control Copper sulfate at the rate of 1 kg per acre can be mixed with irrigation water; 4.Leaf folder- Spray Acephate 75 % SP 400 ml (Or) Spray Azadirachtin 0.03% 400ml per acre in 200 litres of water. BLACK GRAM Black gram- Whitefly- Spray Methyl demeton 25% EC 500 ml (or) Spray Dimethoate 30% EC 500 ml per acre in 200 litres of water. Groundnut- Tobacco caterpillar- Spray Methomyl 40 SP 300 ml per acre in 200 litres water GROUNDNUT to control the early instar (1st to 3rd instar) larvae. (or) Spray NSKE 5%; 2.Aphids- Spray Imidacloprid 17.8 SL 40 ml (or) Spray Methyl demeton 25 EC 400 ml per acre in 200 litres of water. Sugarcane- Internode borer- I). Release egg parasitoid, Trichogramma chilonis at the rate of 1.0 cc / release/ha (Six releases at 15 days interval starting from fourth month); II). SUGARCANE Detrash the crop on 150th and 210th day of planting. Detrashing dislodge the pupae that remain in the leaf sheath; III).Avoid the use of excessive nitrogenous fertilizers; 2. Termite- Spray Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC @ 200 ml (or) Thiamethoxam 75% w/w SG 64 g per acre in 200 litres of water. Horticulture(Va Horticulture Specific Advisory rieties) Chilli- Damping Off- Treat the seeds with Trichoderma viride @ 4 g / kg or Pseudomonas CHILLI fluorescens @ 10 g /kg of seeds treat with 24 hours before sowing. Brinjal- 1.Whitefly- Spray Neem oil 3% (or) Spray Thiamethoxam 25 % WG BRINJAL 4.0 g/10 l and Monitor the whitefly with yellow sticky trap @ 5-6 / acre; 2.Fruit borer- Spray Neem Seed Kernel Extract 5 % (or) Spray Dimethoate 30 % EC 7.0 ml/10 l. and Encourage the activity of larval parasitoids: Pristomerus testaceus, Cremastus flavoorbitalis. Live Live Stock Specific Advisory Stock(Varieties ) COW Livestock's- During these periods, vaccinate 6-month-old calves and older animals against Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (HS) as advised by the veterinarian.

Vellore

As per the IMD extended range forecast (ERF), Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may be receive above normal rainfall and normal temperature for the period of 6.10.2021 to 12.10.2021. Prevailing weather condition is favorable for pest and disease incidence for all crops. Farmers are advised to monitor their field and take necessary plant protection measures based on symptoms of damage. Protect dry paddy straw and sorghum straw from raining and subsequent fungal contamination. If so, avoid feeding them to cow. Moderate rainfall may be expected on forthcoming days. So, avoid fertilizer application, insecticides or pesticides spray and provide drainage to lowland areas.

Crop(Varieties) Crop Specific Advisory Prevailing weather condition is favorable for leaf folder incidence in rice. Hence farmers RICE are requested to monitor the field and spray chlorantraniliprole 5ml or Flubendiamide @ 0.7ml/litre. Horticulture(Va Horticulture Specific Advisory rieties)

BRINJAL To control shoot borer/ fruit borer, spray Azadirachtin 1% EC (10000 ppm) 3ml/litre or Flubendiamide 20WDG 7.5g/10 litre.

To control rhinoceros beetle in coconut, apply neem seed kernel powder + sand (1:2) COCONUT @150 g per palm in the base of the 3 inner most leaves in the crown. GUAVA To control guava mealy bug, spray profenophos @ 2ml / litre + neem oil 5 ml.

PAPAYA To control papaya yellow mosaic virus, spray Imidachloprid @ 0.5 ml / litre.

To control panama wilt in banana, soil drenching with carbendazim 0.1 % solution around BANANA the pseudostem at bimonthly intervals starting from 5 months after planting.

Live Live Stock Specific Advisory Stock(Varieties)

The floors in the livestock shelter must be cleaned and maintained damp free to prevent COW water logging. Moreover the floors must be sprinkled with bleaching powder to maintain bio security in farm. GOAT Sporadic incidence of Blue Tongue infection may occur in small ruminants. Hence stringent measures must be taken to control fly vector (Culicoides).

Poultry(Varietie Poultry Specific Advisory s)

The stagnated water around the poultry farms must be cleared immediately, to avoid the BREEDER development of intermediate host of poultry Cestode which tends to develop in stagnated water.

Cuddalore

From extended range forecast rainfall above normal, maximum temperature and minimum temperature normalexpected for the period of 06.10.2021 to 12.10.2021 over Tamil Nadu. Light to moderate rainfall will be expected in the forthcoming days. So farmers are advised to provide proper drainage to the crops.

Crop(Varieties) Crop Specific Advisory RICE Land preparation for samba season may be taken up using the expected light rainfall. Before sowing, treat the seeds with carbendazim 2g/kg. Due to prevailing weather condition changes of sugarcane Top shoot borer infection. To SUGARCANE control apply carbofuran 3% CG @ 66 kg/ha or chlorantraniliprole 0.4% G @ 18.75 kg/ha or chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC 375 ml/ha. Mealy bug and pokkahboeng infection identified in sugarcane crop. Mealy bug affect SUGARCANE growth of plants and pokkahboeng cause death of young spindles of sugarcane crop. To control spray imidacloprid 17.8 SL 0.6 ml/l or carbendazim 1.0 g/l. Prevailing weather condition is favorable for fall army worm infestation in maize crop. To MAIZE control spray chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC @ 0.4 ml/lit or flubendiamide 20 WG 0.5 g/lit at early stage (15-20 days) fllowed by azadirachtin 1% 2 ml/lit and spinetoram 11.70 SC 0.5 ml/litre or emamectin benzoate 5 SG 0.4 g/lit at 35-40 days. Horticulture(Va Horticulture Specific Advisory rieties) Prevailing weather condition is favorable for mealy bug infestation in tapioca crop. To TAPIOCA control spray fluonicamid 50 % WG 60 g/acre or spirotetramat 150 OD 250 ml/acre or thiamethoxan 25 WDG 40 g/acre.

Coimbatore

Agro Advisory Crop Stage Advisory General Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorm may occur during the week. Postpone the irrigation, spraying and harvest. Provide adequate drainage to all crops. In rainfed area, provide bunds at 20 feet interval against the slope to arrest the rainwater runoff. By utilizing received and anticipated rainfall, continue the rainfed sowing and do gap filling in already germinated fields. Rainfall with wind speed of 15 km/hour is expected. Hence provide adequate support to banana and sugarcane. Rice Nursery As the sowing of Samba season is nearing harwest, direct sowing of pre preparation germinated short duration paddy varieties seeds in puddled soil is and recommended. Tillering Drainage may be provided in recently transplanted samba rice.

Groundnut Germination By utilizing expected rainfall, gap filling may be done in groundnut crop to maintain optimum population. Cotton Vegetative To arrest the terminal growth nipping the terminal portion of the main and flowering stem beyond the 15th node should be done. Due to continuous rainfall, 45 days old irrigated cotton may show Zn deficiency. Hence, spray 0.5% ZnSO4 during non rainy days. Sugarcane Vegetative Detrashing and propping may be done in six months old sugarcane to protect against anticipated high wind speed and rainfall. Tomato Germination By utilizing expected rainfall, gap filling may be done in Tomato crop to maintain optimum population. Coconut By utilizing the drizzling rainfall, basins may be deepened to the coconut so as to store monsoon rains in the soil profile. Grapes In Grapes, due to high relative humidity and optimum temperature, Downey mildew disease may occur. Hence on prophylactic spray with Copper oxy oxide chloride @ 0.25%, twice at 15 days interval. Turmeric Vegetative By utilizing the rainfall, top dressing in 120 days old, turmeric should be carried out @ 55 kg urea 30 kg potash per ha with sufficient moisture. Due to high cloud cover and high relative humidity, micronutrient deficiency may occur in 4 months old turmeric crop. Two foliar sprays on non-rainy days at 25 days interval with FeSO4, ZnSO4, Borax, Urea, each 150g in 250 lit of water per acre should be done. Animal Since rainfall is expected drainage in and around cattle and poultry sheds may be provided to avoid water stagnation. Further farmers are requested to safeguard the feed and fodder material from rain soaking. Present weather is conducive for mastitis disease in milch animals. Hence, clean the udder with 1% potassium permanganate before and after milking. SMS advisory Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected. Drainage may be provided in recently transplanted samba rice.

Erode
