Cradle of Civilisation: Greece provides a seemingly endless encounter with famous places, great names and historical events - a wealth of archaeology which today constitutes the western world's richest landscape of memory.

Athens: A stroll through the marbled streets of Athens today surrounds you with signs of its glorious past, from the temples on the Acropolis, to the civic buildings in the Agora, and even the mini museums in the modern Metro stations - the classical heritage of Athens is woven into the fabric and soul of the modern city. During the 5th century BC Athens was the hub of the Greek world, and was fostering an intellectual and cultural fluorescence which secured the foundations of western civilisation.

A journey through the Peloponnese reminds us of other famous places such as Corinth, Argos and Mycenae, and of a deeper past of Archaic Age city-states and Bronze Age kingdoms. This is the land of gods, heroes and great deeds where myth and reality converge in a plethora of archaeological gems: visit the palace of King Agamemnon, leader of the Trojan Wars, see the home of Heracles at Tiryns, or attend the theatre at Epidaurus, where Greek myths were brought to life in dramatic tragedies and comedies.

Athletes & Oracles: Continue through the beautiful mountains of Arcadia, still a rural idyl of romantic charm, to reach Olympia, one of the foremost archaeological sites of Greece. Here, in the original stadium, the Olympic games became the greatest festival of ancient times and a unifying symbol of Greek identity and ideals. Across the Corinthian Gulf we come to the famous oracle at Delphi, set spectacularly on the slopes of Mt Parnassus. Here mortals and gods communicated to create the principal diplomatic and intellectual centre of the ancient world.
