YOUTH TEAM: MID-FAIRFIELD JR. RANGERS

hometown: MOORESTOWN, NJ

Affiliate Alex Aslanidis’ development continues to accelerate as the young goaltender makes his way through the final stages of youth hockey.

“I would say I am a tall, athletic goalie with a big frame,” said the 18-year old of his 6-5 build. “I’m a passionate and emotional player. My biggest strength as a goalie is my ability to use my size as an advantage while still trying to play athletically.”

As the New Jersey-native hones his game in the northeast, he’s kept his focus on his preparation for his continued play at the prep-school level. Last season, with Avon Old Farms School, the big goalie registered a 2.29 GAA and .910 save percentage.

“My main focus coming into this season was to prepare my feet for the speed of prep hockey and to make sure I was playing calmer and simpler,” he said.

In addition to dressing for Team USA while anchoring the net for the Mid-Fairfield JR. Rangers, The Providence College commitment was recently ranked the 20th North American goalie in NHL Central Scouting’s Mid-Term Rankings. The agency lists players based on their projections for the 2019 NHL Draft.

“The national program was great because of the schedule when it came to hockey,” he said. “I felt as though I had plenty of opportunities to work on my individual skill when I wasn’t practicing with the team. My takeaway from the experience was how much faster the game gets once you get into juniors and how fast you have to make decisions. I enjoyed playing in the environment because of how challenging it was.”

With camp experience in the USHL, and now time spent with the National Devlopment Team, Aslanidis is prepared and excited for his next opportunity.

“Once I get my chance to play in the USHL, I look forward to competing with and against the top players in the country every day and the experiences I will have on and off the ice,” he said.
