FROM THE DESK OF FATHER DAVE

THE NEXT STEP FORWARD As you may have noced in the most recent issue of the Relang to the queson of when the 2nd Sunday Mass will Catholic Spirit (September 7th), Archbishop Hebda has be added back into the schedule, I can only say that I’m given for permission for the distribuon of Holy waing unl we consistently get a significant number of Communion at Mass to return to the place that it formerly people using the overflow in the Social Hall. That has not occupied in the Eucharist before the Covid pandemic happened yet. Our total Mass aendance for the two changes took place. In other words, the Communion Rite Masses this past weekend rose to a new high of 218 may once again occur a er the Our Father and the Lamb people. I’m not sure if that is part of an upward trend or of God, as was the former pracce. To many people, and simply people in town for the Labor Day weekend. certainly to many priests, this will be welcome news. Lots of folks never felt comfortable receiving Holy Communion It is my hope that this upcoming change in the on the way out of church. However, although permission Communion procedure back to the “old” way will go was given to return to the old Communion pracces, the smoothly next weekend (September 19 & 20). If it turns Archbishop made it clear that Communion at the end of out that people are not willing to be conscienous about Mass is sll very much acceptable at the present me, if maintaining social distance in the Communion line or at the Pastor chooses to connue the pracce. the dismissal, then to use Governor Walz’s image we will simply have to “dial it back’ again to the current pracce. Of course the reason that caused the change to receiving I am confident that we can achieve a combinaon of at the end of Mass in the first place was safety concerns convenience, reverence and safety all at the same me. for those present. That concern for parishioner’s safety Let’s try it, starng next weekend (September 19 & 20). has not diminished in the least. That is why all the other THANKS for your aendance and your care! protocols relang to Mass and the recepon of Communion remain in effect, namely – 1) Masks must sll - Fr. Dave be worn. 2) Hands sll need to be sanized on the way to Communion, and 3) six foot social distancing sll needs to be observed in the Communion lines. Below is a lile inter-species communicaon (frog & duck…look closely) in my backyard pond a few weeks ago. I personally have some concern about returning to the old Cute, huh? Communion pracce because of what may happen at the me of dismissal at the end of Mass. When I say the words, “The Mass is ended, go in peace”, I fear that there may be a rush toward the Narthex with no aempt to observe the 6 foot spacing. Therefore as a deterrent to prevent this problem we will be having the ushers dismiss people by pews (similar to what happens at a wedding) except beginning with the rear of the church and working toward the front. This will hopefully control the flow of people into the Narthex to allow proper distancing. Once in the Narthex, we would ask that you connue to move outside as most people do now, rather than gathering and chang indoors.

Again, I would also ask that you please keep a space between communicants in the line while waing to receive Communion.

Our plan is to not implement this change immediately, but to wait one more week and begin it the weekend of September 19 & 20. Together in Christ. Living Our Faith. Then I thought about us at St. Bridget’s inving families to dark forces of Satan behind them in their aempts to redefine share faith and teach faith this year at home. My biggest fear is or destroy the family and even the Church. The books are power of prayer, and the multude of people and situaons colorful and up to date. The Gospel stories reveal God’s love that need our prayer, I chose a lile different angle- how prayer for us. The truths of our Catholic faith offer solace and hope in changes us. Read Pope Francis’ quote above on prayer again. Sharing faith decisions based on the best interests of the people, for the need not be hard, rather it is a joyous, happy, life-giving struggle of Good over evil, or our personal effort to become experience. We may come to it with a heavy heart. We may closer to God.
