ROUND 1 INTERVIEW November 30, 2017

CAMERON SMITH ( -4)

Q. Cam, nice round there to start the Australian PGA Championship.

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, it was a good round. It was a bit of a case of what could have been for me today. I feel as though I left a few shots out there, but I feel good heading into the next three days.

Q. It must be encouraging to know that you posted 4 under and you feel like there's some shots out there for tomorrow, you could go low?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, just a bit of putting stuff. Didn't really feel comfortable on the greens today, didn't really make some of the putts that I could have made, yeah.

Q. Any of those 5s, can you reach any of them in two with heavy --

CAMERON SMITH: I reached two of them in two.

Q. Which ones were they?

CAMERON SMITH: Nos. 9 and 15.

Q. What did you come into 9 with? It was downwind, wasn't it?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, 3-iron there and 3-iron into 15 again.

Q. It must be encouraging hitting those long irons so well?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I hit it really good today most of the day. A bit iffy at the start, but yeah, managed to figure something out there on the course. Yeah, really struck it good on the back nine.

Q. You've been close to winning this tournament in the past, so what's the feeling like when you're teeing it up for the first time this time around?

CAMERON SMITH: Oh, I mean, I turn up to every tournament knowing that I want to win and knowing that I have a chance to win. I wouldn't play a tournament if I didn't feel as though I had a chance to win, so same as every week. I love the course here, nice grainy greens for us Queenslanders. And yeah, it's a good fun week with family and friends so close as well.

1 Tee-Scripts.com Q. Was it different this time knowing that you're a winner on the PGA TOUR? Does that give you a little extra confidence as you're about to embark on another PGA journey?

CAMERON SMITH: I mean, yes, that's -- it feels like it's been forever now, but knowing that I can get across the line when times are tough there at the end of the tournament is a big boost.

Q. And getting a bit of an afternoon tee off this time around and then playing in the morning tomorrow, as opposed to and also Sergio Garcia with the early start, being a Queenslander you're used to the sun coming up early, aren't you?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I've been waking up early all week for some reason. I think it's because we were in Sydney last week with daylight savings and stuff, I'm getting out of bed at 4:30, 5:00 anyway. So I'm sure tomorrow might be a little bit tough, but I'll be able to step up there on the first, I'm sure.
