A specific strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is used for production. Regulatory All materials shall be of edible grade, clean, sound, wholesome and free from extraneous matter. Product shall be prepared following Good Manufacturing Practices and shall comply with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938, as amended and with regulations issued pursuant to this act. Presently, the Non GMO Project will not accept any materials produced using corn syrup even through no GMO proteins are present; this includes our fresh yeast products and deactivated yeast products manufactured in the US. The Non GMO Project will not accept these products because the dextrose isolate we use for yeast fermentation is manufactured using GMO enzymes. The dextrose isolate used passes through a 20K Dalton filter which removes the enzymes which have molecular weights from 35K – 65K. We can provide you with a non-genetically engineering certificate (NGE) which supports our statement the product is not genetically engineered. The testing was done by an independent laboratory, Genista Biosciences. Non-GMO Engineered Certificates have been issued by “Biochecked” for all of our products. Please keep this for your reference. Unfortunately, it will not change the ultimate decision by Food Chain ID at this time which will be any products grown on corn syrup are not accepted for use in a Non GMO Project Verified product. We are continuing discussions with the Non GMO Project in an effort to modify the standard related to yeast grown on our dextrose isolate.
