Bledsoe Doug and I live on about 68 acres in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. We have about 35 head of cattle. We have been in the association for about 16 years. We came across the White Park Cattle in Florida. A man that Doug was working with knew that we had cattle and wanted to know what kind of cows had black ears nose and feet. We had never seen a cow like that. So he went home to Missouri, and brought us a video of them. He had seen them at the farm of Jim Freeman. We watched the video and called Jim and he told us all about the caving ease of the cattle and how well natured the cows were. We were looking to get into a registered breed of cattle, so we thought we would give them a try. We bought 4 heifer and 1 bull in January and Jim kept them till we got finished with the job in Florida. We went to Jim’s and got the cattle and the next year we went back and bought 4 more heifers. We started showing local, then we went to Quincy, Illinois, from that we started at other cattle show’s. Due to the sickness in the family we don’t get to make all the show’s that we would like to. The point I would like to make is that if you are showing your cattle then you have a good chance to sell them. For example last year we sold every thing we took to Harrisburg PA. I would like to thank every one who goes to their local area and show cattle and do what they can to promote our breed. Other than showing the cattle we also have our own feed lot going. We raise our corn and hay to feed out then we sell to the local people. This has been doing well for us it is something that you have to work on in your local area. I would like to encourage everyone to come out and show. If you don’t have cattle ready come on any way. Get to know other people in the association. I think going to the show’s and talking with other breeders has helped us in our cattle operation. It is that time of year again. The calves are here and we are busy getting the hay in corn planted and all the other things that go along with having cattle. What a life. I would not trade it for any thing.

Notes from the Office…..

Hello everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that my family and I are now moved to Harrison, Arkansas. Sarah is getting to spend some long needed quality time with her grandparents and mom and dad are getting a break on occasions. I want everyone to know that I will be away from my desk July 11th – 15th, for Sarah to have surgery to remover her tonsils. I will however, get any registration applications that are received that week out at the beginning of the following week. Please call if you have questions.

As the show season is upon us please let me request that those showing cattle and needing registrations please send the applications in as soon as possible so we can get them out to you in time for your shows.

The Display materials are ready for use again this year if you were not able to attend the annual meeting last year or was not able to view the display take a look on the web site it did a very good job with those who used it to promote the breed and their cattle and show last year. Good job to the people who helped the Association promote the breed.

I look forward to seeing everyone again this year at the National Show, Annual Meeting and Banquet.

6 HALL of FAME In 2005, Avergne Jackson was our first member inducted into our Hall of Fame. At this time, the Board of Director’s is accepting nominations from the membership for candidates for the 2006 recognition.

All who are to be considered must have been a member for the past 5 years. The individual should demonstrate leadership within our organization. Another quality would be the promotion of the breed. This might include organizing or participating in shows and sales whether on the national, state or local level. Perhaps this individual advertises his operation and the breed thus promoting the breed. The last qualification is that the individual is NOT currently a member of the Board of Director’s. Nominate yourself or someone else. Send in a name and your reasons why this person should be inducted in the Hall of Fame. Send your nomination to Sherry at the Office or to Larry Fedler. Deadline for nominations for this year is July 1, 2006 Larry Fedler T-Shirts & Caps For Sale!! $10.00 each

QUALITY BREEDING STOCK FOR SALE! England Visits the United States......

This year the American British White Park Association has the opportunity of hosting a World Federation meeting in Milwaukee in conjunction with our National Show and Banquet.

Besides the breeders from the British White Cattle Society of England there will also be breeders here from Australia, New Zealand and South America, as well as breeders from the British White Cattle Association of America will be invited to attend.

Most of the International visitors will arrive on September 21st in Milwaukee and will be attending the World Beef Expo as well as our ABWPA National Show and Banquet. Following the World Beef Expo the group will travel to Quincy, IL and spend the following days touring white cattle herds in the Midwest. Some will then return home and some will travel on their own to other parts of the United States to see other herds of white cattle. The England visitors will have a reception in Quincy, Illinois on Sunday, September 24th at 7 p.m. at the Americas Best Value Inn hotel. There will be a block of rooms listed under cattle breeders at a rate of $59.00, phone the hotel at 217-224-7733 if you are interested in participating in the reception. The Illinois Department of Agriculture will provide the bus for transportation of the visitors. The ABWPA will be accepting sponsorships for the England visitors. The sponsorships will be as follows. Gold Sponsorship is $100 or more Silver Sponsorship is $50 - $99 Bronze Sponsorship is $25 - $50 If you would like to become a Sponsor contact the office at 877-900- BEEF or mail your sponsorships to: ABWPA, PO Box 957, Harrison, AR 72602

The hosting of the event is a great opportunity for the American British White Park Association. Not only, can we show them the quality of cattle we raise here in the United States, but we can also mingle with breeders from around the world and show them the very fine people we have in our association.

So get the Ole’ Betsy and her calf cleaned up and ready for the National show. If you are unable to participate in the show, we will still need people in Milwaukee to help haul visitors around, or we will accept any help that you would want to give to make this a Great Event.

Feel free to contact me with any suggestions or offers of help for this event. Kevin Wolf 217-224-4619 13 Ozark Empire Fair Springfield, Missouri July 28th - 3rd, 2006 Show Day August 1st, 2006 6pm Cattle must be in place by July 31st, 12:00 Noon Cattle will be released August 2rd, 3:00pm

2005 Data Collection Results……

In 2005 the Board of Directors pushed for all of the members registering cattle to turn in Birth, Weaning and Yearling weight information on their cattle. In the spring and fall we have been mailing to the members a letter requesting any information on the weights that would be available. This will help to build information for new breeders as well as get us on our way to producing EPD’s (Expected Progeny Differences) for the breed. The following information was collected in 2005. 294 head registered 217 head had birth weights 106 head had weaning weights 18 head had yearling weights

The birthing weights are the 1st step in the data collection but weaning and yearling are also very important in improving your herd of mother cows so lets keep this data collection on the fast track and get those weights turned in on your calves.

If you are interested in more information or you need a data collection sheet contact the office.
