The 18th Glen Parva Summer Gala This year’s Glen Parva Summer Gala took place on Saturday 3rd August and what an amazing turnout we had! The day started with a few hiccups with our climbing wall and surf simulator party breaking down en route which unfortunately led to them being towed home. They were so disappointed they couldn’t make it. We were then let down at the very last minute by the animals company who were due to run sessions from the small hall. However, despite the initial setbacks, the rest of the day ran smoothly and we were thrilled to see everyone soaking up the atmosphere. The Xtreme Stunt Team brought in a fantastic crowd as we welcomed them for the first time and the Party Bubble Workshop and go-karting were also enjoyed by many. We had a fantastic range of stalls: gin trailer, Glen Hills Sports and Social beer tent, classic car display (thank you to Bob Charlton for organising the cars), birds of prey and children’s rides along with a fun and energetic Zumba demonstration by Laura Ross and her team. The Park Café was packed throughout the event selling delicious cakes, ice creams

and refreshments and the Knit and Knatter Group were also on hand selling gifts, ending with a raffle later in the day. On behalf of all of us here at Glen Parva Parish Council, we would like to thank everyone who came to support the event and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. DISTRICT COUNCIL Dog Warden Report Animal Services from Council attended Glen Parva Gala to inform and advise about the laws surrounding dogs and animals. The gala gave us an opportunity to engage with the young people at the event and with games such as ‘pin the poo on boo’ and poo picking races we definitely succeeded! The races to pick up and bag the poo were very competitive indeed, with some even cheating to win by bagging two poos per bag! What we were very pleased with was the fact that out of all the competitors we only had to show one very young child how to bag the poo, all the children had either already helped to clean up after their dog or have seen their parents do it so many times they were already experts! Very encouraging for us to see. Dog tags were also available on the day in an attempt to but not paying attention to what their pets are doing, encourage dog owners to comply with the law requiring such as using mobile phones or talking with friends, dogs to display the owner’s details on their collars. both of which have been in fact been scenarios where fixed penalty notices have been issued in the past. Dog Bags from the Parish Office Unfortunately, due to cuts in the budget at Blaby District Council, once our current box of dog bags has been used up, we will be unable to provide them to dog walkers from the Parish Office or Glen Hills Library. Nappy bags are a cheap alternative and are available from all supermarkets. We apologise for any inconvenience but hope you understand that this is out of our hands and we thank you for continuing to pick up after your dog to help keep the Parish clean and tidy.

WEEK

During the summer holidays, Super Star Sports have held two summer activity schemes here at the War Memorial Hall and on the playing fields. The first scheme was held during the week of 15th July for pupils of Glen Hills Primary School and the children had a great time doing various activities and sports including dodge ball, football, archery, gymnastics and dance. The second scheme was booked by us here at Glen Parva Parish Council and both weeks were booked to capacity, with a fantastic response from the initial advertising allowing the children to enjoy the week free of charge. All of the children attending the sports scheme have been very polite, well behaved and well-mannered and we would like to thank Leon Howard and his team for all their fantastic work.
